Boo Hoo...........................hopefully this is in the right place, and I am posting just to see if anyone has any ideas beofore I consider forking out for a new camera.

I have an EOS 300D, which I have had for at least five years now (from new).
It has been working just fine, but I took it out today to get a few shots, fired off one then the camera just gave out.
I have tried every combo of battery (all fuly charged), CF card and len that I can think of and nothing is happening :shrug:

The camera also take a CR2(?) fla disc type battery that deals with the date/time etc...............if this has run out would that stop the camera from working at all?

I know this could be just the excuse I need to go out and buy a new body (fo he camera not me, lol), but if I can keep the 300D going for a bit longer that would be even better.

Thanks in advance for any input.

It shouldn't. However the exected lifespan of this battery is around 5 years, so it might have died, and it's conceivable that this might be your problem. They're not expensive so it might not be a bad idea to change it and see what happens.

The manual for my 350D identifies 4 possible reasons for the camera not turning on:
* battery is exhausted
* battery not installed properly
* battery compartment door not closed
* CF card slot cover not closed

It might be worth looking at the contacts on the battery compartment door and CF slot cover to make sure that they are closing properly and that the camera knows they're closing properly.

Other than that, I'm out of ideas.

All those have been checked, everything is closing correctly :'(
Gonna invest in one of the batteries (when I next go out)...............but I am guesing I am looking at laying my dear old 300D to rest :'(
