After being bought my first slr (canon eos 450d) as a wonderful birthday present by my girlfriend .....i have had a brilliant last three weeks experimenting!!! Until tonight..... the camera was there, set up on the tripod, photographing christmas lights in the dark, i turned my back for seconds to turn back round and see the tripod on the floor with my poor slr looking beaten.
Everything seems to be working perfectly, except it is not recognising a memory card in the camera, it keeps displaying 'no memory card' even though one is in. The red light in the bottom right does not come on when it normally would if it was 'busy'. The point of impact was the right hand side and although the casing is not cracked, it has slightly moved offline.
If anyone has any advice or idea how much the repair will cost i would be very greatful. I plan to ring the shop we bought it from in the morning as they have always been very helpful.
P.S. I'm gutted :'(

Hi welcome to TP
not sure on repair camera shop will know.

Thanks for the welcome! Just hoping it is repairable!

HI and welcome to TP

It's not the memory card trapdoor that's broken is it? (It won't let you do anything if the door is oen)

Thanks for the welcome too marcel!
The trapdoor seems to work fine, the card is clicking in place as normal also.
It's as though whatever it is that passes info between memory card and camera isn't working.

Hello and Welcome

could be an insurance job methinks

Thanks rogden31,
yeah i am worried that could be the case!

Welcome to TP :)

Sorry to hear about your camera :(

The first thing I'd suggest is trying another SD card or if you don't have one then take a look at the SD card that was in it and see if any of the wee plastic dividers are broken at the top. I had that once before with similar symptoms to what you are describing.

there is a great technical service centre in the subs of brum that are the main service centres for all th ebig boys, they sorted my sony cam when i dropped it, £25 to find the problem, very good engineers where you can actually talk to them not the front desk staff is you ask nicely.

WOW!! Thanks to everyone for your replys and welcome!!
I have been away working this week and just read them all! Encona, without a doubt i would have tried your recommendation, but i sent it to a canon specialist in glasgow, could be looking at 100 to 200 pounds to repair it, they will ring me with a quote once they have 'examined' it.
Just hope it'll be back from hospital sooner rather than later!!

Welcome

Hello, looks like you need a bigger tripod.
