weekly HelenC's 52 for 22 - Week 52: Showcase. Critique welcome

My comment was because the right side is marginally lower than the left. (I have problems with horizons, even using levels.)
Sorry, I hadn't taken offence or anything... I totally agree with your comment. I was merely remarking that I don't usually "overcook" my images so it was a bit strange for me :)

Both work fine for me :)

Both work well. I think there's a really nice abstract hiding in your second shot somewhere (with some heavy cropping of course). Good for the theme.

Both good for the theme.
I slightly prefer the second but they are both good shots.

Hard to pick between the 2. The first just pips it (for me) since the second is close to "wet" rather than just damp (a fine line, I'll admit!)

Nice shot, and good light Helen. Both Nice, prefer your chosen one

You've split opinion with this Helen. I like them both but the second one is my pick. It's nicely framed and I like the space around it.

Both of the images have their merits, personally I prefer the more abstract nature of the second one. The first one looks a bit unbalanced in landscape format but does have some nice forms in portrait. It's strange how the the positioning of the elements make it look so different when rotated.

I like the first composition best. For me the negative space on the left works, and the larger stone sort of points to the smaller one. I might have cloned out the little white bit on the top left :)
It's fascinating how it has split opinions on here :)

Both work well, but I prefer the 2nd one as there is more going on and it's more random/natural looking to my eyes.

Agree both work very well, #1 is my choice though as it just looks nicer.

Nice, simple and a little abstract.

A very nice minimalist shot

Thanks for the interesting feedback guys - its much appreciated. Looks like there is definitely a split in opinion which reflects my own difficulty in choosing.

I had some ideas in my head about a local ruined church and long exposures but the sky wasn't playing ball so I have a window through a window..

An interesting pair of windows.
Great idea and nice processing.
Could you darken the sky using a mask in LR?

Nice image, I do wonder if the separation between the 2 windows would be more obvious if in colour(?) as it wasn't immediately obvious to me until i read the caption. Some lovely detail in there and plenty of interest. great shot for the theme.

That works a treat :)

That’s a good shot and fits the theme perfectly. Loads of detail in the stonework.

Lovely image .. definitely on theme

Definitely checks the box Helen. A good image.

This a lovely creative shot. Much more interesting than most of us have achieved. I like the mono treatment too.

I love it.

Even before i read the description I could see it was 'through a window, through a window'

I like your thought behind the shot. Different and clever too.

Very nicely done window in a window image, goes and looks good in mono.
The hard light in that is really nice.
A lovely image. I really like the composition and processing.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and comment guys.

I've been a bit stuck for both time and inspiration this week. Yesterday was an oddly hazy and slightly dull day here and this caught my eye as there seemed to be layers from dark black to distant grey haze. However, what was in my head didn't really translate into an image. Far from a good shot but the box is ticked.

It meets the challenge Helen.
Layers and tech work fine.

Ooh is layers the new tech? I missed that. It certainly fits layers and technology.

I was going to suggest a crop from the top, but I rather like the gradation from light to dark in the sky - it's almost naturally like a lighter vignette.

No I just like the layers. Current tech is reflections.
Ha ha! I had to go and check as I could have squeezed layers into my post this week. I think all this thinking about technology has frazzled my brain.... I even had to go back and see if I had done reflections already.... which is a bit of a worry!!
I like layers too! :)

A lovely landscape shot that works well in mono. I like that the line of trees is aligned with the turbines in a sort of “old meets the new” way.

Thanks for dropping by and the kind comments on a boring image :)

A very drab day for photography so headed to a place where there are lots of discarded boats... this one definitely isn't going anywhere. I was intending to process in mono due to the bad light but I quite like the splashes of colour.
