I notice they are getting "cheap" now, 7artisan for example do a 35mm or 50mm on APS-C with T/1.05. You can import one for less than £400 even after fees. I know they are manual as per cine lenses but seems interesting and fun for some crazy bokeh and low light shooting?

I thought about it but the use case for getting a sharp photo in most scenarios is a bit brutal with such a thin focal plane. Might be worth hiring one first to see if it suits your idea?

Probably not exactly what you mean but this is the best lens i've ever used.

You can get this same exact glass, as well as other ART models in CINE housing. Better build quality, pull focus gearing, same IQ, much steeper price, and zero autofocus. And likewise it retains focus breathing,

Many competitors at similar price range will have similar offerings that may have counterparts in stills section.

You have to look all the way to Canon 15-120 t2.9-3.9 to find something unique and significantly better than stills glass. That costs an absolute bomb but if you are driving brand new Tesla S or equivalent it should be irrelevant.

I would be asking yourself if these mass produced gen1 or gen2 chinese lenses will retain their value in the near future. They could easily, and likely will release II, then III, then IV versions with major upgrades and perhaps only a minor price increase. Are they close to *perfection* already? Or do you simpkly need something affordable to complete a project now? If you can answer yes to either then go and get some.
Having said that a lot of the mirrorless glass like some pretty expensive Canon RF lenses, etc are shrouded in cheap flimsy plastic and don't offer ANY direct manual control at all. I find it hard to justify spending £2-3k a piece even on near perfect models like 50/1.2 or 85/1.2. Canon will be eager to burry them dead or alive as soon as mkII hit the stores and the 7 year service phase out countdown begins.

The attraction of these cheap Cine lenses are that they are cheap, retaining value is of no consequence as they are cheap.

That Sigma 40mm has almost halved in price, it's £629 everywhere and Cameraworld seem to drop it to £569 periodically.

The better ones have the same colours from lens to lens but insisting on that could push the price up. Other attractions could include the same build but then again if they all look the same you could end up picking up the wrong lens. T instead of F stops might be nice. With some of the cheaper Chinese ones even I struggle to see the attraction and I usually like cheap manual lenses but with some of these there's probably little if any reason to get the cine version rather than a cheaper photography one.

This might be interesting.

I’m looking at cheaper than that….lol

Honestly, I’m expecting a car crash quality so I’ve set the bar low. As for why not shoot other cheap manual lenses? I guess because everyone else have that same idea but how many buy Cine lenses for photography?

35mm at T/1.05 has got to be like night vision?!

And why not?

I think I'd stick with FF lenses though.

One lens which could interest you if I can persuade you to look at a non cine lens is the TTartisan 50mm f2. It's cheap at under £80, it's e mount and it flares nicely. A lens which flares nicely might be fun for you.

But it's f/2....

It's under 1.2 or go home lol (yes i know its APS-C and it's differences)

If it is inconsequential why even ask the question? Just get what looks interesting and have fun.
You appear to understand the limitations already

Of course, you just appeared completely determined to get them either way.

Yes I am thinking about it…I’m not asking whether I should get it, I’m asking if anyone has one and what is your experience of using one for photo purpose, like quirks, drawbacks. I’d imagine the weight and ergonomics would be different but it’s be good to hear personal experience of it.

That was the main point and that’s why it’s in the title.

The rant about gen 1, gen 2 and canon lenses being expensive…not sure how you got off on that tangent…..so bizarre! And no, I don’t want to know why…lol

@Raymond Lin for the "cine look" I'm still experimenting with an anamorphic adaptor, hopefully some results to share in the coming weeks.
