I don't need to 'learn' anything thank you Joe. Indeed, I'd quite happily tell you exactly what I've learned but that's against the rules and I won't drop myself to personal insults unlike some.

What's the union flag? The union jack? How would people get confused with that and the st georges cross? It's totally different.

I called it the Union flag rather than the Union Jack just in case it started an argument about whether it should only be called the Jack when flown from a ship:

While I'm not for/against a national holiday I do believe England should celebrate St Georges day!! Its not racist its our national day! We should be proud of our country im English, and shouldn't feel bad to be proud of that.

Spotted this in a street around the corner from my house today.

I think it sums it up, really. Actually, this flag was put up years ago when "Eng-er-land" was doing well in some football match and had remained there since then.
I'm not really bothered about it all to be honest. It just seem to be an excuse to get drunk anyway (I'm a teetotaler, by the way) and the flag itself does have that "lout" type image about it. But that's just the way I see it.
Although I was born and have grown up in Kent, I like to think I have strong Scottish roots through my grandfather having been born in Scotland, so with that in mind I'm more of a Union Jack person.

I'm not English (Scots/South African) but St George is the patron saint of England, and it seems perfectly appropriate to celebrate his day if you want to! The flag may have been hijacked by some groups you may, or may not, want to be associated with but that doesn't change the historicity of it.
