Happy St Georges Day.

Double celebration in our house as always, as its my daughters birthday today.

So that we can get drunk and celebrate being english by drinking lots of english ale of course :bonk::bonk:

good call.. st george must have been drunk anyway... I mean really? killed a dragon? I'll have a pint of what george is drinking :)

I don't see that we need another day off.

I'm still waiting for your answer btw.

**Personal insult removed**

we're having a light hearted thread about st george's day!!!

We should all fly the English flag and get told to take them down as it is offensive to non English people.

I guess some people just feel the need to pee on other peoples celebrations...

HAPPY ST GEORGES DAY EVERYONE! :)

I don't need to 'learn' anything thank you Joe. Indeed, I'd quite happily tell you exactly what I've learned but that's against the rules and I won't drop myself to personal insults unlike some.

I'll leave you to your 'celebratory' thread given no one actually wants to seem to discuss, simply ridicule.

shame, seems a bit over the top to start the week with so much negativity. No hard feelings though, it's your prerogative.:)

Another opportunity to give folk the chance to show their inability to tell the difference between the Union flag and the St George cross (see also England football matches :)).

Let's not forget this is not solely an English thing. It's been celebrated here too.

union flag? do you mean the st patricks cross?

Happy St. George's Day all!

St. Patrick's Cross is a saltire (the cross is corner to corner) as is St. Andrew's!

St. Georges flag is flying high here in East Limerick!

exactly. Thats what I mean, thats the one people get confused with no?

What's the union flag? The union jack? How would people get confused with that and the st georges cross? It's totally different.

While I'm not for/against a national holiday I do believe England should celebrate St Georges day!! Its not racist its our national day! We should be proud of our country im English, and shouldn't feel bad to be proud of that.

HAPPY ST GEORGES DAY!!

Spotted this in a street around the corner from my house today.

St+George's+flag.jpg

I think it sums it up, really. Actually, this flag was put up years ago when "Eng-er-land" was doing well in some football match and had remained there since then.
I'm not really bothered about it all to be honest. It just seem to be an excuse to get drunk anyway (I'm a teetotaler, by the way) and the flag itself does have that "lout" type image about it. But that's just the way I see it.
Although I was born and have grown up in Kent, I like to think I have strong Scottish roots through my grandfather having been born in Scotland, so with that in mind I'm more of a Union Jack person.

I'm not English (Scots/South African) but St George is the patron saint of England, and it seems perfectly appropriate to celebrate his day if you want to! The flag may have been hijacked by some groups you may, or may not, want to be associated with but that doesn't change the historicity of it.
