Hi all, Im new here and currently working out in Thailand (have been since March 09) and intend to move onto North West Australia to continue my work.

Been reading a lot of topics on this forum and others as well as doing a lot of research before splashing the cash on a new camera.

So yesterday after all my research I took the plunge on a brand new Nikon D90. Not had much time to take many pictures but planning a walkabout this sunday around town.

I was previously using a Canon Powershot A640 but jumped ship to Nikon as the D90 was good value for money (in Thailand) compared to similar Canon DLSR's, especially with the 18-105 kit lens

The old man was a semi-pro photogapher specialising in aircraft and made some stunning shots so Im hoping to be a fraction as good as he is.

Im waiting for some photography books to arrive from Amazon whilst also trying to understand some Photoshop basics.

Im mainly interested in wildlife and landscapes, but have an interest in macro photography too. Really looking forward to getting out there and taking pictures.

Sorry for the long-winded welcome, looking forward to posting my own photos as well as interacting more on the forums :)

Welcome to the site :)

hi....and.............:welcome:

looking forward to some images of where you are

from the D90 - which I hope to have one day !....................

The exchange rate is terrible at the moment.
I did just get my D90 for £700 though and thats with an 8gb SD card plus spare battery (which doesnt work so have to take it back :().

The strange thing is that shops in Bangkok import them from Japan to get a cheaper price, except all D90's are made in Ayuthaya!! (1hr from Bangkok).

Your work sounds interesting, lonely though? I'd like to travel but I think I like home too much.

I'm looking forward to seeing some shots from the D90, I'm not quite ready to get a proper camera yet but very much looking forward to it. Got those 3 books sat on my coffee table read for a good reading, hope I understand them!

Its not too bad apart from the missing home aspect (which I do). Going back in March for 2 weeks before australia which is great. Got lots of friends from the UK office here and we're allowed to bring our other halfs with us. Long hours though, 55-60 hours a week, 6 days a week.

Hoping to be out this Sunday to take some pictures so will post them as soon as possible :)

(1hr from Bangkok).
Speaking of Bangkok, if you're ever that way, I'd love to see some shots of the Water Monitors darted around Lumpini Park. That's one place I've always wanted to go and visit. :)

Funny you mention that, I went to a cycle tour 2 weeks ago and saw one of them next to a canal; 1st time Id seen a lizard that big in Thailand

Got one sitting in my living room at the moment basking under his heat lamp ;)

He's still just a baby though, only a year old, about 4ft long.
