Hi, Carl, I would have never thought to photograph a pig. I do like pigs.

Well composed and nice detail in the pig. Slight blown bit on its back and I feel it would benefit from a boost to the colours.

I drove past a field full of pigs at the weekend and it never even occurred to me to relate them to the theme but when I saw yours it was one of those "DOH" moments, why didn't I think of that? :lol:

Your image really does the theme justice, it looks a friendly fella, good composition with the pig walking into the frame. I like the warm colour tones in there too. All round good work :thumbs:
 
pigs were my original idea but there are non anywhere near me, pigs and the colour orange represent gluttony in classic literature. the image could do with a bit of sharpening well done for doing something different :clap:
 
That little piggy certainly looks a bit of a glutton too. Looks like he spotted your sandwiches. :D
 
Now I like that shot. It's very diverse from the usual food take but very well in theme! Fabulous image, sharp focus and a nice background contrast of colours Carl. Well thought out.

I'm quite partially to a little piggy photo as well . like that he/she is walking in to the shot yet not central & liek the muted colors in the Bg :) Looks a little oof on the snout/eye's though ? I'm another who didn't even think about a piggy till I saw your shot ...DOH!
 
Piggy! - would have prefered her a little bit closer perhaps, other than that Love it.

Grrrrr so much in 2 minds over this

On the one hand I am a big watch lover and dont know which watch to shoot in my light box that I have never used and have no idea how to use. m sure my Jaeger-LeCoultre or IWC watches would look awesome if done properly.

or do I wait till next week and hope to get a photo of Prague astro clock
 
Could always do both carl?? Get one in this week, and treat us to a bonus one next week? And if the astro clock shot doesn't come off.... you're still up to date.

Good shot on the piggy, great that you've caught him / her in a real natural looking setting, not 100% sure if your focus point wasn't on the body rather than the nose - or whether it moved forward a bit between focussing and shooting, but it's only a tiny amount only really visible on the larger size, a touch of selective sharpening in PP could help.
 
Ive tried to do the standard watch shot in my light box, but Im clueless about that. Thing is I love watches and have 13 of them at present and really wanted to get a shot of 3 nice ones with tan leather straps. But failed completly.

Just bought a nice Tamron 2.8 17/50 as well

Cheap lights and Im sure the bulbs are not bright enough. 26w daylight bulbs

Looks like its going be a nice clock shot in Prague shot at silly hour so no other tourists in the way.
 
Well I have no idea which time or jux photo to select. I've had a blast here in Prague. Last chance for night photography tonight...

I saw an amazing juxtaposition but very hard to get a good image. How about a brothel over the top of a police station. The brothel was highlighted by hanging bras outside the windows.

I will post my snap just for the record.
 
here is my brothel over a cop shop snap.. the underwear gave clues then the little flyers left no doubt ubout the upper trade

Time. I always intended the famous Prague town hall clock, but i went to the Loretta which was quite awesome, so here is there clock

He we have a very old monument that locals touch for a blessing from the saints, hence it being very shiny but very old. taking over this is the modern trend of lovelocks. Lovers write their names on a padlock and lock it to a bridge in the hope it will keep them together forever. So we have very old and very new traditions side by side. A perfect juxtaposition in my eyes.

Not a great photo but a nice image.

I disagree Carl - both a nice image and a great photo. :thumbs: Great detail in the locks on the iron monument, love the colours on the padlocks, set with the stone below and the great backdrop of the houses and rooftops behind, with a lovely clear sky to boot! The area that I presume is where the locals touch has brought a lovely bronzey focal point to the image too. Great spot.

Think the clock is a bit too tightly cropped, but certainly has potential if the original is wider and is processed to be a bit more punchy (not sure how mind...).

Brothel / police station. Great spot ;)
 
A realling intresting photo and your thinking behind the theme

as mentioned the colours stand out well and the blue sky is a nice touch
think a shallow DOF to blur the houses in the backround might work well here

Brothel Juxtaposion was well spotted. Just feels like you were trying to get too much in.

Main Juxtaposition has great narrative. I'd like to see it a sunset with nice light and maybe a bit wider.

Time, on theme, but doesn't grab me. Not keen on the crop or light.

Now, an old friend of mine had an IWC and it was amazing; a real piece of art.

The clock shot I really like , vibrant gold contrast well with the stone work & blue sky, would've liked to see a taller shot to get more of the top in maybe ?

The #2nd image whilst also on theme just hurts my eye's , too much for me to see..interesting subject though & a fab blue sky as well :)
 
I can see where your coming from but i like your jux photo, the colours of the padlocks make it interesting. I think a more shallow dof would have helped it stand out more.

Good spot on the brothel/police station juxtaposition image, this is along the lines of my initial thoughts on the theme, observational but I never found anything. It looks like quite harsh light you were shooting in but you've handled it well. Was it somewhere you could have revisited in different light to throw a different perspective on it?

Your other juxtaposition shot with the padlocks I like too, you've held a lot of detail in there considering the light again. I agree about a shallower dof just to throw the quite busy background out. I think a step to the left and a little lower would have helped the framing along a little, its just that the building on the left is a little distracting I feel.

Hi Carl

Gluttony - good comp as the pig walks towards you, nice autumn colours. I like pigs and feel that they get a raw deal with being labelled as gluttons. :(

Juxtaposition - good spot for the brothel and police station. Difficult light whic you have handled well. Maybe going back at different times would have brought suspicion ;)

Monument - another good spot and lots of detail captured. Agree with others about poss a lower pov and less dof.

Time - both on theme. I prefer the wider shot of the building as the viewer can see the clock and there is an element of time in the age and style of the building. Good colours.
 
The Time and Juxtaposition images work well, though maybe a polariser or a tweak in Photoshop to make the sky a darker blue would improve them (like the colour of your wider image of the building). I also think a shallower dof for juxtaposition would help the monument to stand out better.
 
Work in progress I like the idea but lighting was very harsh. I think I need to realign the X on the CD

Very much a messing about and see week for me. I hoped my local pub still had a missing letter from its sign but its now been sorted gggrrrrrr.
I liked the CD with the 2 x's but dont think I was able to do much with them.. I like the very strong left X but not the right hand one, even when aligned to match the left.

I think i prefer the first one, the light making a rainbow shows us its a cd. Agree with you about preferring the left x on the second.
 
Hi, Carl, Letter is on theme, but doesn't grab me I'm afraid. Why...well all I see is an open CD case with 2 Xs. Don't mean to be harsh.

I think you could have done a lot more by just using the CD.

Hi carl - agree letter was a hard one to make work, I did wonder if the CD on its own, with the sunlight reflecteing could have worked?

Love your pylon shot, they are pretty impressive structures but I think really need a good sky behind them to work, you;ve caught a great blue sky, with really good detail in the clouds, I'm not normally a fan of jaunty angles, but think this works great with all the cables leading you to the pylon itself.

Wider angle might have worked too, to get in the middle "dangler" on the right and a bit more of the base?
 
Carl, your pylon shot has worked really well, definitely one of the better ones I've seen. The angle of the cables and the positioning of the pylon are great, but I suspect it's the sky behind that makes the shot interesting. Adds a bit of rightwards movement at the top to counteract that strong up and left pull. Good stuff!
