weekly Greenoak's 52 - Week 31 - MONO added

Hi Carl,

Good to see you still hanging in there and happy half way point.

I really do like your rock image - gieven the shooting conditions it's come out fantastically.
Shame there's not a touch more of the guitar in frame, but I guess you were contending with plenty of people in the way.

Hi Carl :)

Rock - There is not a thing wrong with that for me, a great shot with good atmosphere

Process seems a bit overexposed on my monitor, and with clipped buildings, trucks and signs I feel it needs something else :)

Size - Nice idea, shame about the sky but some great building in the shot

Good catch up

Hi...sorry its taken me so long to comment...trying to catch up :bonk:

Pattern: Preferring edited shot...as others have suggested would like to see symmetrical crop

Movement:Loving the colours and flow across pic, looks very complicated, well done for trying out something different

Below:When it opened on my screen the bottom of the shot was missing, think it looks better without, nice angles and reflections

Size:Like that you got someone crossing the bridge to give a sense of perspective

Hi, Carl, minor point, but linking from the 'no comments' thread to here might increase he footfall

Rock, really well lit. Bit close, maybe.

Process, on theme and well spotted. Again a tad close for me, although this may have been unavoidable.

Size, you haven't been lucky with your skies. Liking this building and the chap does add interest, bit small though.

Cheers

A cheeky one this week

A pair of TP doing what they do best.

The CF or SD cards were being filled rapidly by us all on the TP outoing to Wales

Hi Carl

good spot for the theme...what were they shooting by the way ?

I like rock a lot, the lighting works great and the DOF is spot on. Might have been tempted to lose the face in the bottom right though. Doesn't look noisy to me... and gotta love the nifty fifty!

I'm not sure about process. Bang on theme, but I'm not so keen on the image generally. I pass that chaos every day though, and you're to be commended for getting anything out of it at all... a nightmare, composition wise.

Size is nice. Comp works well and the single figure on the walkway adds interest. A bit of interest in the sky would be a nice touch, but it's been a white cloud kinda year so far. I love that building, but it's hard to get a decent shout of it without something super-wide.

Pair's a good spot, works for the theme well. A nice character shot, creates interest in what they're doing.

Pair.

Nice grab shot, it looks like it could do with a little bit of something to give it a bit more oomph, if you know what I mean :)

Pair gave me a chuckle - them both sat on the grass next to each other like that...

You didn't say it was taken on your phone - that should explain the lack of sharpness and contrast!!!

Hi Carl

Rock - nice atmospheric shot with a really goodb/g and spot on theme

Process - good idea but perhaps just a bit too busy and I agree with DK that it seems overexposed/ a bit washed out and lacking contrast.

Size - I like that as a composition and the only drawback as has been mentioned is the sky

Pair - made me smile  Good comp and well on theme. a bit lacking in contrast but a minor point set agains the subject. Good waistline shot :D

Shape - super shape , glossy and sinuous. Good shot. It doesn't add to the theme but that little ant is a nice touch

great shot, and it took me a wee while to notice them.

A very interesting shape indeed.

Speed, good colours and detail. Looks a tad dark.

Plenty, on theme and really draws the eye in. Again looks a tad dark. I might have been tempted for a LH crop.

Cheers.

Think I need to get a calibrated monitor !!!

I like the, erm... shape, of Shape. I like the balance of the sheen on the skin and the detail. Is that an ant on the browner of the two?

Speed's a lovely image, spot on composition and really vibrant colours.

Plenty looks fine on my laptop, and the arrangement of the boats works well. The guy in the red shirt taking a piss adds interest too!

Hi ya

speed.....cracking shot that mister , well exposed , great colors in the sky & smoke trails....get it framed for sure :clap:

Plenty.....yeah , liking this , unusual mooring arrangements but very photogenic ,good colors & exposure looks good to me

Hi...liking steps, nice and sharp with good colours and patterns.

week 31 - mono

This is part of the Nelson statue in Liverpool. One of the many many amazing statues in the city. I am very very pleased with this image, esp the light on his biceps, and the lions above.

i may even enter this into a comp so please tell me how i can enhance it further

Hi Carl

Step......that's a cracking pair of shoes , great color , great focus & just about to step off a step ....2 for the price of 1...well spotted & taken

Mono..... like it.....conversion is great with good lighting emphasising the curves ....my pp skills aren't good enough to offer any advice on improvements...I like it just as it is

Hi Carl :)

Step - Nice composition that and some very colourful shoes, I think the pic could take a bit more of a boost again

Mono - I'd tighten the crop to the right hand lion to even the two sides up (Or widen the left, and the left elbow/chain if I'm being ultra fussy :D), but a cracking statue the pp works very well

Come on... lets have some feedback to the feedback :)

Thanks Guys

I will have a bit of cropping with the image. Will try square if I can

The photo was almost black and white I just applied a BW style from Lightrrom 5 and a tiny amount of darkening a couple of white areas

Steps works well. The sharp colours and the texture of the shoes really stand out, and that's exaggerated by the washed out grey of the stone.

The light in mono is really nice. That, and the texture in the metal make it for me.

Hi Carl
Steps - works very well with the brightness of the shoes against the grey of the step. I would prob have cropped out the bright area of ground to the left and included a tad more or the ground to the right, giving space for the foot to walk into.

Mono - good subject and comp and well handled lighting

Hi, Mono, what a cracking sculpture and well photographed. Good tonal range. Only crit is the crop, not keen on the clipped elbow.

Cheers.

I am back in liverpool again and will see about reshooting the statue looking at getting the right arm in shot... One of my all time favourite statues... Always pleased to look at it again...

Connection and beginning to catch up on... Will see what I can do this afternoon.

Thanks for the feedback as ever

Hi Carl, steps - lovely coulours and detail in the shoes, a slight scuff on the near shoe is my only negative.

Mono, Nice.

DK has covered most of what I wanted to say, can I suggest that you experiment with a vignette, I think it would suit, oh and try to get more detail out of the area where his hand overlap.
