Great Day today for the wind farms :-) and Solar :-)

Superb day again :)

Solar Smashing it

I thought this might be of interest on this thread.

Apparently a milestone in the working life of a tidal generator could bode well for cost effective(?) method?

That's very good news indeed. I'm a huge advocate of tidal power.

"On Thursday, the group announced that its bearings and seals on one of the turbines had passed the 6 1/2-year mark without needing unplanned or disruptive maintenance."

Read today that worldwide, 33% more electricity was generated by solar last year than the year before.

Solar power is experiencing rapid growth worldwide, becoming a key player in the global energy transition. In 2024, solar capacity reached 2 terawatts, with a record 600 GW of new installations. This surge is driven by falling costs, technological advancements, and supportive government policies. Solar is now the fastest-growing source of electricity generation globally, outpacing even wind power

Perhaps it is but https://grid.iamkate.com/ reported just now that only 15.1% of today's power came from solar, wind and hydroelectric - what percentage will it be when the clouds are grey and the air is still?

the UK is not the centre of the world
Oh yes it is.

Indeed, it can be shown by simple geometry that anywhere and everywhere is the centre of the world, on account of the world being (more or less) a sphere and the centre is therefor wherever anyone says it is,

No. The centre is in the middle of the sphere, not on the surface.

You're quite right.

I should have written "centre of the surface of the world" ;)
