weekly Gramps' Photo52 2012 - Week 30 'Contrast' added

Hi, I seem to have missed a few....

Sweet, nice depth and rich colours...but we have NO sweets in the house and I really feel peckish....:'(

Secure, I had the same idea but didn't get it done. Like it, really fits the theme. With a bit more time and without the risk of ending up in there...I'd like to see a nice low angle photograph across 'No entry' and the spikes with the entrance in the BG.

However, well done

I can't believe there are still people whose threads I've managed to miss over the last
few weeks...

Direction - good slightly creepy shot, interesting pp'ing.
Fear - funny, simple and well taken. Good take on the theme.

Sigh - a very hard theme. Good idea but just not quite right to me.

Sweet - strong colours, good dof and very sweet looking. Impressed you did it in a shop as well tbh.

Secure - very strongly on theme and took a brass neck to get!

Bang on theme shot for secure, and extra bonus points for having the balls to shoot it hehehe. I did think similar but the thought of wandering round Strangeways nick with my camera filled me with dread and fear :)

Was looking forward to this weeks theme but opportunity didn't really knock with the weather and my timings, anyway went on a detour this morning and in the misty drizzle found myself on the Severn Estuary at Severn Beach.
I wanted to show the contrast between nature and industry but the light didn't help me, in the end I have just done my best to bring out the emmissions from the distant factory ... black and white seemed to work best ... and on to next week ...

Typical weather Gramps, just when you want to do something the weather is against you. I know that feeling all to well. Looks like a fire with lots of smoke.

Great idea but Mother Nature foiled you. You'll win on another day ;)

The idea was there, but the crappy british weather has left it looking a bit flat and uninspiring

Well you done ya best with what you had. damn you British weather!!!!

Hi Gramps,

Yep there's not much you can do when the weather's against you! I do think it has potential and I do like the b&w, maybe a reshoot another day?

Carol

Yeah, you can't fight Mother nature...

I do rather like how you've pushed the main building right over to the left...:bonk:

I know what you mean with the weather, good shot thou and composition. looks a little flat thou maybe a bit of contrast needed

Certainly worth a revisit on this one Gramps.
I prefer the B&W conversion too, as you said it suits the subject.
You have chose a good crop with this, the smoke rising into a big sky I like it.
Iain

Thanks folks, I will try another visit, regretably I probably won't have time this week.

Now you see I love it, I think the sky looks a little ominous and the eye is drawn to the foreground before seeing the industrial building chugging out smoke in the background:thumbs:

You've certainly made the most of a rather bland original image!

There's hope yet for my crappy shots;)

 Someone likes it ... bring on the fireworks :D

Now if you'd left the camera at home it would have been a cracking sunny day , blue sky birds singing , so it's your own fault for taking the camera :bonk:

Steve

How true ... and later in the day when I couldn't take time out the weather improved :bang:

Think lots of us have struggles with the weather this week, I had to dart out as soon as I saw a break in the clouds myself..

However you did a pretty good job on the PP to being it back, good effort :)

Given the conditions you had, that's turned out remarkably well. Love it!

I like the 1st one. The weather is non-negotiable so you just have to make the best of it. :)

Cheers all, comments much appreciated ... now what does tomorrow bring ???

Okay, so had a variety of ideas when I set out this afternoon but they were overtaken by opportunity ...
So here is this week's effort, I'm calling it "Trusting the Root", I hope the title is self-explanatory :)

Wow, fantastic opportunity, very well captured!

Thanks, it made a nice change from the obvious :)

Nice shot Gramps, love the idea and your thought behind it.

Thanks - it's amazing the things we put our trust in without thinking!

I like both your last two shots, although........

The smoke/ steam in industry could do with being all in the frame for me.

I take your point and value it, however I do quite like the way the frame can't contain it ... like we can't seem to contain the negative effects of man's industrial activity.

I like your updated industry. Very nice image.
Your root is a good pic too; but I would say that, because that's what I had in mind :)
(I hope she was putting some protection in while posing)
