weekly Gramps' Photo52 2012 - Week 30 'Contrast' added

Week 2 - Well if you pay peanuts you get monkeys !

Nice take Gramps. I like the shallow Depth of Field.

 loving this one, really looks precarious, no wonder he's scared :)

You even managed to give him a scared expression, brilliant!

Thanks for all the kind comments, no Monkeh's injured I'm happy to confirm (though there was some involuntary shivering!) - there was a drop of about 250 feet on the other side!

Hi Gramp....now that had me chuckling when I saw it :D

Fab idea....wonderful model , great DOF...& bang on theme...excellent

Another  from me on your take on the 'Fear' theme Gramps.
Nice choice of dof and composition. Well done. Iain

Somebody give that monkeh a cup of tea! Great dof. Congrats.

Direction : I do like this... although I'm not sure personally, that having the direction sign so hard against the edge of the frame, and cut off like that, helps with the feel for the theme.

Fear : :D... very clever... fits the theme well... I like it.

Difficult one this week, the theme was challenging and there just haven't been the opportunities for time-out. I wanted to put a different take on it but think I would need more time to do full justice ... anyway, here it is, I didn't want to play a joker:-

sigh (thefreedictionary.com)

"to make a sound resembling this trees sighing in the wind"

These trees were certainly sighing in the wind this morning and I was sighing with the wind, cold and mud!

Option #2 with a bit of 'RaspberryJam"

Hi, just realised I didn't comment on your earlier ones. Sorry!

Direction is great! I love the over- exposed treatment, which I think works very well. Perhaps just slightly more of the sign in view would have been good, but that's minor.

Fear; that's one scared monkey! I like the DoF used as it adds to the sense of height, even though you can't actually see the fall itself. Great shot!

Sigh I'm afraid doesn't work for me either for the theme or as an image :( For the theme I think you needed to capture movement in the trees, which in turn probably meant they needed foliage. As an image regardless of theme, I think there's something a little "off" with the colours (technical phrase; hope I'm not blinding you with science!! ;)), and the DoF doesn't work to focus attention on either the twigs in the foreground, or the trees in the background. Sorry, but I'd like people to be honest with feedback they give me so I can improve, so hope you don't mind?

It is a tough week, and I think you picked a good idea to illustrate it; it's just that it doesn't come off in practice for me :(

Still, keep going; only another 49 weeks to go!

EDIT: Ha, I DID comment on fear before! I think this whole thing is driving me bonkers!!

Thanks Mark, you are right, the idea was there but sadly not the real opportunity ... anyway better than missing the week ... maybe

Absolutely! One of my own rules is to post every week regardless of whether I have an image I'm happy with or not, because I think you can get as much (maybe more), useful feedback from the fails as you can from the goodun's!

I prefer the second of the sigh images if anything for the lonely tree sighing in the breeze like you say. Not sure on the choice of colour, maybe b&w or sepia would have worked?

What about a shot of the mud with wellies stuck in it? The things we do for our art, sigh!!!

Like you say a tough week this week Gramps I think most of us has struggled in one guise ora another. I prefer #1 as the red doesn't quite work for me. Roll on Week 4 !

Nick

Ooh yes, that works MUCH better :)

This week's theme of 'sweet' did make me do something I have not done before which was to walk into a shop and ask if I could take some photos. Surprisingly there was not much light in the shop and as the camera was hand-held it's not as sharp as I would have liked, however it helped me realise the importance of lighting and/or a tripod in these situations.

Port and cranberry sounds delish to me :D super shot Gramps. ;)

You beat me to it Gramps, I had a similar idea. Just wondering if some off camera flash held in my left hand may help
Nice use of DOF

Edit: I'm going to have think of a new idea now though.

yep love the shot - you could get commissioned by the shop lol

Yup ... free chocolate brazils ... yummy but seriously off diet :D

Hi gramps, not visited your thread before, another one slipped through the net, so here goes.......
Direction - I really like the eerie feel of this one it's like you were in an insane asylum. A great point of view too.
Fear - that's a cracking shot, again a lovely POV and to get the humour in there too, very nice.
Sigh - sorry but neither of them do anything for me I'm afraid. The first hasn't really got a solid focal
point and the colours in the second one don't really suit the scene. I was thinking along the same lines for sigh but didn't know how I could pull it off. Think it could be a very good shot just not sure how to set it up.
Sweet - another great image. I like the depth of field and the focus is spot on IMO. They look like gorgeous choccy's too. Cranberry and port.....yes please.

I've subscribed to your thread now so look forward to seeing the rest of your challenge.
