Give me 6 bullets right now !!!

If that were true do you not think that the good old Yanks would not be shouting about how they saved all of Africa's wildlife from illegal poaching
My issue is with how we treat and the attitude we have towards wildlife.

Well found and much closer to the truth, surprised Pedro the bullfighter hasn't sniffed this one out yet :meh: :indifferent:

To be honest you just seem to be getting off on your outrage and perceived moral highground.

If you're that worked up about the subject, try doing something about it.
Make some noise in ways that might matter.

Not related to the photo in the OP's post but this is what’s happening in the name of conservation, the last paragraph says it all really, between poaching and conservation what chance do they have.

http://news.discovery.com/animals/e...rhino-killed-in-controversial-hunt-150520.htm

How the rhino will be saved remains embroiled in controversy. The black rhino killed this week won’t be the last. Namibia’s Ministry of Environment and Tourism has identified 18 others that need to be eliminated.

Humanity's true moral test, its fundamental test…consists of its attitude towards those who are at its mercy: animals.”

I'm no conservation specialist, however a grumpy two tonne killing machine which doesn't reproduce itself, and is actively stopping young males from doing so, must be thwarted in its intentions.

Why not trust that the conservationists have gone over all options available before resorting to this?

I would hardly describe rhino's as killing machines there are fewer than two attacks on humans per year whereas 1215 rhino's were killed illegally by poachers and that’s just in South Africa.

Yes I could understand this as a one off or even an occasional cull of an old bull as a way of generating funds to protect the rhino but with such a small population I find it hard to justify the elimination of a further 18 as stated by Namibia’s Ministry of Environment and Tourism.

What reason for the 18?

Out of interest, what are your credentials regarding wildlife conservation? And by the way, the reference to killing machine wasn't solely in relation to humans, it was in context to the much smaller males who are willing to shag the female ;)

I'm no expert either, but as both a fellow of the zoological society of London, and an active born free supporter I do have an interest, spend my money and talk to the experts.

Well there you go. Clear as mud. Everyone is using it for their own propaganda.

Me I blame Thatcher :p
In case you wonder about the quality of my surroundings:
I've just walked to the fridge for a lager (the step son is cooking curry - it'd be rude not to).

Me: All fridges should come with beer taps instead of water dispensers

Stepson: They would do if it wasn't for Thatcher,
Then without even a smile of irony, he turned back to his cooking :D

I think she would have smiled (internally) for that one :)

but as a fellow of the zoological society of London,
It seems our willies are of equal length :D

A little story, sometime ago, I was happily destroying a very active wasps nest over someone porch, that was prohibiting them from entering their house
( circa 5,000 wasps). A guy pulled up in his brand new Beemer, it would seem that he was a near neighbour and read me the riot act about killing "anything" and how disgusting it was that anyone could contemplate such an act.

I nodded towards his car in pseudo envy and said, I bet those (leather) seats are really comfortable and cool in this hot weather.
Indeed they are he said, but what's that to do with anything?

Oh nothing I said just wondering...
I think the irony escaped him ;)

I know, but as I said I'm no expert on the subject. I do find it fascinating and there are a lot of very clever people doing their best and making very hard decisions.

I wonder what he would have thought of those wasps when they stung and he got a toxic reaction...

Just teasing :D

Absolutely, I only get involved (occasionally) with UK management, a lot more planning and thought goes into it, than people realise.

I wonder what he would have thought of those wasps when they stung and he got a toxic reaction...
anaphylactic shock is the word, and I bet just one sting would have him bitching like a little girl ;)

I would imagine with anaphylactic shock his air ways would be to swollen shut to bitch like a little girl

Perhaps he knew sign language?
:D

I suppose flapping around on the floor pointing at your throat could be interpreted that way :p:p
That reminds me of the Saturday night fever spoof, was it Air plane? the guy was pointing to his back while on the dance floor
as there was a knife sticking out of it :D

I would guess the same reason as the others, i.e. The rhino he shot was an older male that, according to wildlife managers in Namibia’s Ministry of Environment and Tourism, was not reproducing and because rhinos are fiercely territorial, was also threatening younger males who could reproduce. Shooting it, the conservation case went, would give the healthy males a better chance at mating with the females.

I’m neither a fellow of the zoological society of London nor an active born free supporter. I'm just an amateur with an interest in conservation.

Ps. your fellowship is that as a professional in conservation or zoology or just an interested amateur

So you don't know? But you were finding it hard to justify above.

Neither, as a sponsor/donor to the cause. As I said I am no expert, however I do sponsor those who are.

That's really funny guys. Strangely I didn't find it funny watching a good friend die of a single wasp sting with two paramedics trying to save him.

Morons

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. No disrespect is intended by some forum banter

I'm sure everyone of us has lost friends and family to things joked about. We know no harm or disrespect is intended in those jokes. No need for the morons commen

Sorry to hear of your mate's death, and yes it must have been an awful thing to see; however, if no manner of death, or accident etc. were ever mentioned in a humorous fashion on the off chance that someone make take offence, then it'd be a very different world.
Death and humour have ALWAYS been fond bedfellows....it doesn't make folks morons.

Sorry to hear that, but people die everyday from all manner of things.
Should we ban all jokes and banter just in case we offend someone?
And no need to call people morons. !

I remember years ago as a child, me my brothers and sister and our mates were trapped in a field. It was full of either wasps or hornets, we were bloody terrified. We all made a sudden break for it, but we got chased by the swarm. We all got stung everywhere, one of us even managed to get stung on the eyelid. Not nice, a really horrible experience.

I used to work with a guy, totally useless ( the bosses son, need I say more?)
He called me as he was having trouble finding the wasps nest he was sent to destroy (by Injecting insecticidal dust into it)

I got there a little while later and asked him where he thought it was, we wandered into a flower bed, and he said "about here"
the prize one pillock was stood on the nest entrance, a wasp went up his trouser leg, and stung him six times before he got his trousers off.
Of course I didn't laugh, no sir not me ... ........................
*cough* *splutter*

Yes they do nest underground, and rather helpfully, I thought, I suggested he went to the Drs and ask that he leaves the swelling but takes the pain away :D
