I was a good boy last year and Santa brought me the above lens. I now need a gimbal head for it and am looking for recommendations.
Wimberley but not cheap ... what's your budget?
Can just about squeeze the Wimberley in, also looked at the Jobu but can't decide on the foot attachment.Wimberley but not cheap ... what's your budget?

Had a look on the Jobu website, said they are no longer making the Pro2 due to lenses becoming lighter although on the UK site they have them in stock. They say the HD Mkiv is strong enough. More confusion.•
For my big babies I have chosen" Jobu Design's Pro2".
I was thinking of the lens foot, as I think both Wimberley and Jobu do a replacement foot as opposed to a plate.•
The attachment is the same as it is standard! 3/8"
Important is to have no column but a levelling base…
Let me go in the studio, I'll take a few shots of my kit…
•replacement foot as opposed to a plate.
Just emailed Jobu to see if they have a foot that fits the 200-400 instead of fitting a plate to the original foot.•
My lenses were added some short plates attached to their respective
foot. Both of them are form Wimberley as they have a feature that the
Jobu don't have.

Can you use the foot as a carrying handle? I know some of the replacements are a bit close to the lens to be comfortable.I have a nikon 200-400 (nearly a similar sized lens) on a Benro GH2, it's a good gimbal head for the price. I picked up a used one from here. It's definitely better than the cheap beike version I previously had with a 300 f4. It's probably not as good as a wimberley but then it wasn't the same price. I have a kirk replacement foot for the Nikon 200-400, it's a lot better than adding a plate to the lens foot. The Nikon foot was too short whereas the longer kirk foot is the perfect size.
The nikon 200-400 kirk replacement foot is longer than the original and deep enough as it's L shaped rather than flat and I can use it as a carry handle. So you can compare it this is the one:Can you use the foot as a carrying handle? I know some of the replacements are a bit close to the lens to be comfortable.
Thanks for the help, finally gone for the Jobu with the Jobu foot as they are made for specific lenses like you say.The nikon 200-400 kirk replacement foot is longer than the original and deep enough as it's L shaped rather than flat and I can use it as a carry handle. The one for your canon 200-400 may be different as this is specific lens foot to the nikon 200-400. Looking at the photos on the kirk website they look similar, maybe the canon foot is slightly shorter due to the angle part but depth looks similar in the photos. The fact they do a 'sure grip' type foot suggest you can use it to carry it.

Thanks for all your help, have gone for the Jobu HD mkiv as it let me have enough cash for the replacement foot as well. With any luck should be here tomorrow!•

Have ordered the Jobu replacement foot, should arrive today so will post pic when I have all the pieces.Make sure you get a good quality Arca Swiss style mount too - I use the Benro GH2 with my 600mm f4 but with a Wimberley P50 mount. It's expensive at around £50, but make for a really stable combination.
I see what you mean re the zoom ring, was just taking some pics as I said I would up them once I had all the pieces, obviously I had to get another tripod as well { so I told the wife }.•
As I explained earlier, I doesn't matter on which side
the gimbal is but with a zoom, I would recommend on
the right side!
