GEM SLR Bag

Timing is everything.

I got one last week of E*ay for £40. :bonk:

I'm happy with the backpack though, so that's OK. :D

Lots of pockets, and sections for camera and lenses. My laptop fits like glove. I haven't used the tripod pocket on the back yet, but I'm sure it's fine. Rain cover is actually waterproof as well.

A fraction of the price of one of the famous brands, and so far seems to work just as well.

Oh, and you can put any camera in it, not just Canon cameras as in the link. ;)

I just ordered one. It's brilliant! Actually really, really well made for 30 quid. It fits everything in there - it has about a million and a half little pockets and slots, and my prime lenses don't jump about in the bag either. They fit nicely. Well chuffed!

I got mine after seeing it here last week, its excellent with loads of room and adjustable inside to fit all my accesories

Thanks Welly my lowepro micro trekker was getting way to small, this looks just the job.

I've just ordered one, I'm hoping it will come before the weekend.

I know it says the notebook compartment is 39cm but does anyone think it would take 39.5cm as my laptop has rounded edges :) I would snap this up if it could take all my gear!

Two flashes, in their pouches, will fit in one of the resizeable lens compartments, one on top of the other.

As one of the Amazon reviewers said, a guide about how to use all the features would be good. Maybe between us we can put one together?

Ordered Sunday (14th) afternoon.
Backpack arrives Tuesday (16th) morning!

Great delivery service!

Opened the box, filled the bag up with my kit and it all fits perfectly and snug, the inner pockets are perfect for memory cards, batteries and other spare bits. The main storage area is customisable with the padded velcro 'tabs' so you can adust it all to your requirements.

I wont be using the laptop sleeve for now, but that is ideal storage, looks well padded and since it's right at the back it'll be very safe.

The tripod straps look very simple to use, there is a fold out at the front of the bag which will hold the base of your tripod and then the elastic bits hold up the rest.

I'm very happy with this, saved myself a lot of money so thanks to the guy who posted this up!

I am reading the postage as £4.98 correctly on Amazon site?

Looks correct to me. Seems a reasonable price. I got my bag within a day and a half of ordering.

Just bit the bullet and ordered mine too :)

I've had mine for over a year. I've worn it fully loaded and all day and it's still comfortable!

Using the fleabay Best Offer it should be possible to get one for £33.00 incl P&P.

I ordered one of these on Monday. It was dispatched yesterday so I'm hoping it will arrive today. This bag will hopefully replace my Lowepro Slingshot 300 which the girlfrind bought me for Xmas. If I like this new backpack better then I'm not looking forward to telling her I'll be getting rid of the slingshot so soon after hardly using it.

Hi,

I ordered one of these yesterday about dinner time. Turned up this morning!!!

Very good quality considering the price. Absolute bargain!!

Anyone know what the cables with clips are for on the front and on the handle?

Matt

Tripod retaining bungees!
If you open the flap on the front, you will find a "foot pocket" for said tripod or monopod.

Mine arrived yesterday, its very similar to my Lowepro Minitrecker just a bit bigger and has a laptop slot. Brilliant value for the price IMO.

Can someone take a photo of the top of their bag? I took off the clips on the elastic because it was getting in the way :)

I would like to raise a toast to Welly for pointing us all to this lovely "GEM" of a camera bag.  I ordered mine on Tuesday and it came this morning. :D

I had a LowePro Minitrekker before and the only difference I found was that the rain cover was sewn to the botton of the bag whereas this one's loose plus this one's got a laptop case too :D and the lowepro did not

Many thanks Welly.

Received today. It looks like a great bag, so many thanks for the links.

I am still trying to find out what is the *** proper way to attach the tripod ***. I would be grateful for the tip.

I've not yet tried (I thought the shock-cords may be for lashing on spare clothing) but this is how I guess you use them:

Pull the cord through the plastic buckle to make a loop large enough to pass over the tripod.

Pull the cord back through the buckle to tighten the loop round the tripod legs.

Press on the cord-lock's button and pull the cords to cinch the tripod against the backpack.

Also open the flap on the lower face of the bag, you will see it has a second velcro flap, iif you open this you will reveal a pouch..... This is to put the foot of the tripod/monopod into...... You then use the bungees to lash it on.

Trust me it works very well...... That is assuming your bag is the same as mine, with the laptop slot:wave:

Right, now I've tried it, it's only really suitable for a monopod or "toy" tripod. The "boot" for the tripod's feet isn't large enough for a "proper" tripod, and the shock-cord system is too wimpy, especially when a heavy head is used.

My manfrotto 190xprob sort of fits in there. It does feel a bit heavy and unstable though. It may have to stay on the shelf :shake: and this is where I wish I went for 24-105mm IS lens instead.

I've got a Centon BP-500, very similar to this. I love it. Fits 2 bodies, 4 lenses, flashguns, accessories, batteries, filters, manuals, skyports, cleaning cloths, god knows what else. The only thing it doesn't have is a waterproof cover and a tripod slot!

Got it on staff discount for £15!
