Yes
I just about fainted when I read 'Garth' is to turn 60 ;)

So come on - what things / events - creep up on your blind side and make you wonder who pulled the rug from under your feet ?

As I was listening to "Dig Your Own Hole" by the Chemical Brothers earlier on this evening, I remember how I was blown away by when a friend lent me a cassette recording of it in 1999 (the LP itself was released in 1997 - 18 years ago). That in itself has just made me realise how the years went by so quickly.

I agree with that Ian. Music is a killer for time passed.

Especially since my all time favourite album "Phaedra" by Tangerine Dream is 41 years old! I'm 47 but discovered that album as a teenager in the early '80s.

You'll know where I'm coming from as I'm 43 but grew up as a nipper (with older brothers and sisters) listening to Led Zep, Floyd, Sabbath etc.

In terms of this thread though - a few bands stick in my mind.

Floyd, Iron Maiden & AC/DC

Maiden - first saw them live as a kid in 82 and then saw them numerous times through to about 1992. For me those 10 years were a lifetime and even though they're still going - I still consider their 90s material as 'new'. The reality is that material is nearer their beginning than the present day.

AC/DC - Must have been 91 or thereabouts I saw them at Donnington and thought it would be a nice chance to see them play for one last time. LOL

Films, Actors, Events - it plays with my mind.

Anyway - examples aside my point is how the passing of time does funny things to us as we age. By that I mean the 'scale' isn't constant. It's like a ruler where each of the first 10 cm measure 1 cm, the next 10 cm each measure 5 mm, the next 10 cm each measure 2 mm and the next 10 cm measure 1 mm.

Me too I think of any AC/DC records since Bon Scott died as new stuff even though that happened a long time ago

No. That's because I have not got a clue who Garth is and I've never ever seen Waynes World.

When I take my daughter to school I chat to some of the mums, and I then discover that I am old enough to be their dad, or even grandfather.
As for music - I saw Floyd play Wembley when DSOTM was first released - over 40 years ago. Back in 1973 I never imagined I would live to be 40..

Not much in my iPod is from this century!

What makes me feel old is how much I simply can't do these days when a few years (OK, decades!) ago such things wouldn't be a problem.

Bloody youngsters, shouldnt be feeling old in your forties :)

Thats your loss ;)

It does make you feel old when you see stuff like this, like the other post recently with Ralph Macchio the karate kid being 54.

I felt old last year when I was fifty. Also last year, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers played down here at the Isle of Wight Festival. They like leaping around on stage like lunatics.

I discovered that they were all older than me... that made me feel even older!

Steve.

They probably use some form of stimulation...

Perhaps. Also, the subject of my signature line (Dave Rat) is the Chilli Peppers' sound engineer. When I first saw him I thought he looked like a 30+ Californian surfer type... He's about four years older than me.

The other thing which made me feel very old was the realisation that the original Live Aid concert was thirty years ago.

Steve.

Chemical or Organic ;)

IIRC, the organics tend to be more destimulating. (Of course, chemically speaking, the stimulants are probably organic anyway and in some cases are derived from plants originally...)

I was talking to my "hip" young niece recently about the shocking state of music these days.

I told her how you couldn't beat the rock era of 1995-1997. Those were "my years" with some of my favourite songs of all time released during those dates, that period was a very important time in my life and I have some very fond and not so fond memories of it.

She ruined the mood when she stated how she wasn't even born then....

Avisitor mistook our 23 year old intern for my daughter the other day (admittedly at 42 thats just about possible - one of my freinds from school is a grandfather) but still

Im only 35, and work in a school, most of the teachers ( rough age of 23) were still in primary school when i started working in IT (1998).

before here i worked in a UNI in IT support, and we used to ask the year they were born when changing password, that made me feel old when they used to say 1995

Hearing Radio 1 DJs now on Radio 2. Actually liking music played on Radio 2 and even being introduced to new artists by it. Uch.

Haven't discovered the concept of feeling old yet.

My boss was born in 1979, he didn't find it as funny as I did when I told him that his birth was closer to the 2nd world war than it is to today.

I was out with my eldest daughter 15 and my youngest son 2 at deep sea world.

A lady thought Hannah was the mum and I was the Grandad.

That Kylie Minogue is actually older than I am, and now really starting to look it as well....Damn never realised that one ....

Ralph Macchio, aka the Karate Kid, is 53!

Bloody heck, the same age as me !!

I am a 70's/80's soul & jazz funk fan. I used to think it made me feel old until my 26 year old son started using it all for the backgrounds of his mixes. Young Again !!

The 18 year olds who did vote in the last election were only 4 or so when the twin towers went down!

:wideyed::eek: I am literally really shocked by that, it only feels like it was a few years ago!

The fact that each time I drop something the grandkids have moved the floor further away.

Nah! The floor's still just as close to get down to, it's upright that's further to get back up to!

Fact our temp was not even conceived when I graduated from uni (95)

Nothing will make me feel old until time does.

Looking at top pinups from my youth and what they look like now :jawdrop:

Age is not kind

The top pinup from my youth is dead. (FF)
