Fuji x100

I use it in place of the DSLR for things where the fixed 35mm equivalent lens works. It obviously isn't going to replace my Canon gear on safari!

I've done similar too - I now use my X100 in place of an EOS 40D primarily with my much loved 11-16mm

I shall be keeping my 40D for my motorsport photography - but I've pretty much found that since last November I haven't picked up my 40D since and I've been taking my X100 out far more than I ever did with my 40D.

I find I just pick it up and am happy to take it rather than thinking hmmm do I want to take my camera or not, now whether some of that is oh its a new camera I'm not sure :)

It would be worth looking at the sort of photos you take and what sort of focal lengths you take most to see if the fixed focal length will work for you

Since having my X100 my wife has been moaning about having to carry her SLR so we picked up Sony RX100 the other day (arrived yesterday infact) for her to try out as she did want a bit of a zoom

a question to those who shoot raw with x100/x100s:

If any of the photo-editing software supports the x100s raw file? From what I understand, fuji has it's own raw file format (especially with it's new trans sensor).

Lightroom has just been updated to support X-Trans sensor cameras.

Thanks guys. Most my photography is travel/cars, ill still be keeping my 20D and 70-200 for Motorsport etc, but day to day X100S sounds perfect.

I got to use the X100s properly on a trip to Butlins this Easter. It really is much improved over the X100 and worth the upgrade in my opinion. I tried taking the camera out of high performance mode to save battery life, but it turns the X100s back to an X100. It just didn't seem as fast through the menus or when writing between images, so I switched it back and opted for more batteries.

Here's a few from our trip...

Do any of you Fuji X100 or X100s owners also own the official Fuji X100 leather case? Please could you do me a good turn and post some photos here, the bigger the better and from as many angles as you manage? I'm pretty sure that I've just been sold a fake, but I'd like to double (technically triple) check. Thanks in advance.

Real or fake? What do you think folks?

Whats a good price for a second hand X100? With two extra batteries...

How does the AF these days.? With all the firmware updates and all?

Well that's what I would like tot know... Is it that much better?

Someone is offering me the X100 for €450, with the extra batteries.

I figured the X100 was a £900-1000 camera not long ago and had a loyal following. I doubt the X100s would make my pictures twice as good, so I bought a nearly-new second hand X100 today for £390. I'll get an X100s when the early-adopters buy their X200's...

Did you test it yet? Is the AF that bad as reviews say?

It'll be a few days yet. I've come from an XE-1 and yeah, the 1st gen focussing (I'm assuming it's similar) is pretty poor. I'm getting mine for landscapes and non-moving stuff so it's not an issue for me.

If you're after fast focus, get an X100s, or even better, an OM-D.

Is the OM-D even better? I dont need the fastest AF though. Image quality is most important.

The OM-D is very quick, so I've been told. It'll knock the spots off any current Fuji X line-up camera in terms of focus speed. I took a dislike to the OM-D since I saw the faux pentaprism housing - it seemed a bit fake to me. However, it has a cult following similar to the Fujis, and by all accounts is a very competent camera.

Its images don't have the Fuji magic we've come to love, mind...

I wouldn't buy the X100s for its autofocus as the upgrade there isn't worth the price.
Its a lot faster through the menus and start up etc.
the addition of the manual focus aids makes up for average autofocus in low light.
The close focusing distance is greatly reduced, meaning you don't have to switch to macro mode every time you want to get a close up portrait.
The button layout is greatly improved and allows you to navigate the menus much better.
The custom settings allow you to control ISO and white balance.
But the greatest improvement is the low light noise reduction. I'm not exaggerating when I say I use up to 6400 for black and white and up to 3200 retains perfect colour!
Theres plenty of reasons to upgrade but the X100 is still a great camera and while its battery life isn't great, let me assure you its better than the X100s. In one days casual shooting I will use 2 full batteries without trying. Thats the price you pay for the increased speed.

Here's a couple I took at New Quay, West Wales.

Shot in RAW and processed in Silver Efex Pro

I still can't get over how much I enjoy my X100, quirks and all.
Lovely shots. I know New Quay quite well, we used to go on holiday there every year in the 80's and my parents moved to Mydroilyn when my Dad retired.
They moved back to Kent a few years ago, so I haven't been there for a while.
Nice to see it again.

heres some pictures of one i sold some months ago. It was definitely genuine as i got it from the fuji store

Thanks. After checking with Fuji it does in fact appear to be an authorised Fuji case. It's a giveaway that accompanies the X100s in Malaysia. It's unfortunately not nearly the same quality as your case.

I keep contemplating an X100 as a carry at all times camera and a complement to my X-E1. How easy is it to fit in a pocket and do you use it in that manner?

Only just got my X100s I can easily imagine carrying it around in a coat pocket. It's a bit to big for a trouser pocket, but then so are many far less capable cameras.

It's still a lot bigger and heavier than a compact, and you'd need a big coat pocket. But yes, it's do-able. However, it's a bit too close for comfort to the XE-1 with the 18mm lens.

If you've got the XE-1, I'd personally get a compact like the XF1 to complement it.

A compact was the other option, cheaper generally as well...

Definitely not pocket sized but small enough to take most places. I bought a very cheap Kata neoprene pouch from ebay that will take the X100/s with filter, spare batteries and card so everything needed for shooting in a protective case.

X-E1+18mm or 27 pancake and you are there. That's why I bought an X-E1 to allow me the versatility of a very compact system with a pancake on top of a more conventional setup with a zoom.

I really like the 35mm focal length of the x100, never really got on with 28mm so the 18mm doesn't appeal...

What is the current price of a second hand X100. Im thinking of selling mine here but iv never sold anything on here before, so i'll have to have a read through the rule book!
Anything i should watch out for? Not even sure i'm aloud to post this!? :(

Yeah, Selling 1st time means you are not allowed to sell x100 for more than £75. :p
