Fuji x100

Took mine to the Goodwood Revival at the weekend:

Self portrait

The X100 was ideal; its styling fitted in with the retro theme, and not lugging an SLR around was a bonus.

Gary, those are really excellent images. Quite a range of subjects and really putting the X100 to the test. I particularly like the last one of the two boats on the shore, all are excellent though.

Cheers

The ability to edit is really helped by the dynamic range.

I shot everything in RAW, apart from the occasional panaroma.

Great shots, what the story on the one above....:naughty:

Allan

It was taken from the little pier type thing below:

The stuff is fishing kit, lobsters pots and all that.

Excellent seafood on Mull, there was a little chippy van very near that did chips and scollops (deep fried in batter of course!)

There is always a newer version of everything around the corner :-)

Might mean you can get some cheap.

Have you used one?

Indeed, but the x200 really could imminent. Had a quick play with Dave's on here. It's a nice bit of kit for sure

I think the best way to think about the X100 is that it is an old film camera, not a super duper pro HD 10 FPS super camera.

You just develop the film in Lightroom :-)

Just ordered mine with a newer SanDisk Extreme Pro card.can't wait for it to get here :-)

It is no doubt a great camera to use. I never needed an excuse to go out and shoot things before but now I am even more keen. I have only had it a week but wish I had got one sooner.

A question for those using the hood - how much does it show in the bottom right hand corner of the viewfinder. Does it cover the whole corner from mid point of the horizontal and vertical of the VF?

I have discovered than my finger can sometimes stray in front of the lens when switching between portrait and landscape and the hood would stop that (as well as it's main purpose obviously

To be honest, can't think of a reason to use the hood - just have the adaptor and a UV filter on mine (instead of the lens cap).
PS I like the flare!

Agree, flare can be good sometimes but at other times it can be unwanted so not so good.
My use of the hood would be more to stop me getting my fingers in the way as the lens is pretty short and if my finger slightly strays I can't see that it has until after the shot! Yes, maybe I should just learn to control my fingers but a hood maybe a more sure fast solution along with the lessening of flare.

Anyway, answered my question by finding an example here so will add to thread just in case anyone else wondered about hood intrusion.

Osh

That is one hell of a great image!!

Thanks! I think I was lucky in coming across some wild ponies at the end of a long walk when the light was at its best. I've been exploring a lot in the Carneddau recently - a fantastic place with a real sense of wilderness.

I used a polariser, which definitely helps bring out the detail in the skies.

Hi all,

looking for recommendations on grad filters for an x100. What filters and holder do you recommend? Would like a moveable filter holder to ensure grad is in the right place if you know what i mean.

Also looking for tripod plus ballhead. I have a heavy manfrotto for my d300, but looking for a lightweight (carbon?) tripod for my x100. Got a job recently so budget could be generous...

My X100 has arrived. Firmware 1.3 was preinstalled and an additional booklet on 'new features'
Just waiting for the battery to charge. Like a kid at Christmas.

I use 100mm lee filters on mine but it looks hilarious! You'd get away with an 85mm holder. Think lee do one still as well as hitech and cokin.

Can I ask for some advice on Night Photography, please? What settings do I need to choose? I haven't got any external flash to my x100 and all I've tried so far failed. I just can't get any pics during the night ?!
Thank you very much indeed!

Same here. With hindsight I wish I had bought the Lee RF75 system.

I've seen the Lee filter kit. It's a little more than I was planning to spend! Is it worth the money? I've seen some poor reviews of the cokin filters.

It depend what you mean. What is the problem at the moment? Is it focus, camera shake, too long exposure etc? Also what type of photography, is it landscapes or just photos of people and other things?

Taking photos at night usually requires a tripod or flash. If the camera is set to a high ISO setting, f/2.0 and flash on then that's all you can do really without using a tripod or external flash, unless I'm missing something.

I use mine on my DSLR so it made sense to just keep the one system. The only thing I regret is that I should have got the 49mm wide angle adaptor rather than the standard one.

Of the mainstream brands, I think Cokin are considered to be the least good with Lee at the top and hitech in the middle. I don't think Cokin are bad though and certainly offer decent VFM. You tend to find that the trade off with the cheaper stuff is that they don't stack well. I certainly found that with Hitechs.
