Fuji x100

Hi can anybody recommend me a small pouch for the X100? At the moment I have a Billingham Hadley small, but want something so as to be able to put the camera in a rucksack when out cycling or walking/climbing in the mountains.

Basically, I'm looking for something as small and streamlined as possible that can fit the X100 with the hood attached, along with a spare battery. Cheap would be good too!

Thanks!

I've a Lowepro Terraclime 50 and it does the job nicely. Fits with hood on, couple of pouches inside for spare batteries. Only downside is that there's nowhere for a filter (I like to have a CPL and sometimes an IR with me). But then you are back into bigger bag territory again. Was less than 4 quid online too (I used google shopper to see who had stock)

Thanks Brian - just had a look and it seems it would fit the bill perfectly! Shame about there being no room for a filter (I always carry a CPL too) but I could always put one of those elsewhere.

When I need a case, I use my Lowepro 2S lens case. Fits the X100 with lens hood mounted and has a separate compartment for spare batteries and SD cards. The lens case can then be put inside a bigger bag or velcro'd in place using the strap on the back.

Thanks that looks like a very good option too. Seems very well padded which could be useful!

Any of you lot thinking about selling your X100 and going for the X-E1? I know I am but I am going to see if I can get one without having to sell the X100 as I love it SO much!!!

Im certainly interested in the X-E1, but I will wait a few months after launch before considering buying.
1. So any issues become apperent and
2. To see real world reviews and samples from real photographers, not review sites.

Sell the X100 for it? Thats a tough call. Im not sure I could part with the X100, but if I dont, something else would have to go, to fund the X-E1

Yeah I'm glad I still have 2 kidneys!!

I still love this camera!

X-E1 pricing now up at Clifton cameras.

£799 body only, £1,399.00 with 18-55, available late November

Early adopters always pay a high price.

It will drop within a month so it might be ready for Xmas :)

It's cheaper to buy the body only and any one of the faster prime lenses!

'xactly ;)

I suspect the kit lens will be expensive and amazing. But a kit lens at 80% of the body price when you buy them together seems a little odd.

Anyway, should we carry this on in the X-1 thread to save clogging up the X100?

Couple of questions to seasoned X100 users if I may? Sorry if these have been done to death!

I know there were some discussions earlier in this thread about replacement batteries, can I ask what alternatives folks are using?

The second one is about jpeg or RAW, what have peopled settled on? I usually shoot RAW but I have heard that the jpegs out of the camera are very good.

Any assistance gratefully received.

I've a Hahnel battery which works just fine, and I shoot RAW more out of habit than anything else. I ike the look of other peoples' B&W jpeg shots but I'm used to running my B&Ws though Silver Efex Pro so I stick to that.

Ian, many thanks for the response, it's good to get a users view on these things.

As said above, Hahnel are very good alternatives.

As much as I think RAW is better for most cameras, I do love the Jpegs from the X100 and I tend to stick with them now as they are so good. It is also just easier to process the Jpegs as half the work is done already!

Andy, many thanks for the information. It's looking like a Hahnel order wil be coming up.

I use Inov8 batteries and jpegs. Life's too short to process raws!

Allan and Dave many thanks for your views, very helpful.

I have just caved in and could fight against it no more and now have an X100!
I kept trying them out in shops convincing myself it wasn't quite right for me but after having it for a few days I now know how wrong I was. It is beautiful to use and there is just something about the images that are nicer than my slightly lower priced DSLR with prime lens.

However, have I misunderstood the function of the X100 or is it really the case that when at F2 in Aperture priority the max shutter speed is 1/1000?

Yep that's correct, there is a built in ND filter which you can use if you want to shoot open in bright light. I have my ND filter assigned to the RAW button (as I'd probably not use raw on the x100).

Cheers, useful tip. I wondered what I was going to use the ND filter for as I have never done the sort of stuff that requires one.

Dave,

That looks nice and the protection for the comp dial separates it out from other products of this type, think I'll order one of those too!

Dave that looks great, did you order it from that site? I find I keep turning the exposure comp dial by accident so this would be great....

Allan, I have just bought an Inov8 battery from Amazon. Do they last as long as the orig in camera? For the price I could not say no and it will make a perfect back up battery.

I cant say I have noticed much difference between the original and this one. It may not last quite as long, but for the price, I decided to buy 2 so I always have plenty of power.

I've just sold all my dslr kit. It was getting too big and I found I wasn't using it much. I love street work and I'm saving for the X 100. I could have easily bought one but was distracted by a Google nexus along the way! Picture quality looks superb. I've read reviews that claim the X100 has as good low light capabilities at a Nikon D700 is this fact or fiction?

I use one for street. The quality is very good, but tbh I don't find it as superb as I expected it to be...well not with the DSLR's I have. Maybe if you came from something lower down the food chain. That's not having a go at the X100, but I sort of had this expectation of something magical.

For street I still don't think I have the perfect camera... apart from the noise and size, my Nikon D300 with 24mm or 35mm lens is closer. The X100 even with the latest firmware isn't 'instantaneous' in operation and certainly not shot to shot. If you have big mitts, it's also very easy to find you have pushed buttons and moved dials - hence I bought a half case for mine and a Lensmate thumpgrip/guard. It is a nice size for street, quiet, sharp lens and very nice quality, has a viewfinder which is getting rarer and rarer, but I still have reservations and quite a lot of missed shots.

Of course much depends on your style of street work and photography in general. As a camera with just a few seconds to compose your shot and execute it in general photography it is superb if you are happy with a fixed lens.

I would say it's on a par, I'm certainly pretty happy shooting at 3200 on the X100, however do bear in mind that the D700 goes to 6400 native, which the X100 doesn't. It can do expanded 6400 but that's not really the same. Either way, I doubt you'd be disappointed with it in low light.

I'd used a D90 with 35 50 & 85 primes. Too big for what I was after and my kids knew when I was pointing it at them.

I was happy walking around the streets with a DSLR and didn't get the issue people had using them. However, one day with X100 and I now get it!
It does feel less conspicuous and the near silent operation is great.

Still finding the 1/1000 at f2 a bit annoying but I'll get over it.

Hello, I've got a silly question...
I've recently purchased an x100 and when I put the battery on charge, I've noticed that this won't fit properly in the charger ?! There is a gap and the battery won't charge unless if I put something on the end opposite to the charging contacts so it's pushed a bit towards the charging PIN's ?! Am I missing something or I'm just being stupid ?!
Thanks a lot!

Yes!!

Theres a black plastic 'widget' that is (was) attached to the charger. I've glued mine onto the charger to avoid losing it which is very easy.

you can see the plastic thing in this picture (just)

PS 2 workarounds if your widget is lost:-
