Fuji X-E1/X-E2/X-E2S/X-E3 Owners Thread

One more quick question. Is the 18mm a bit noisy (crunch/grating noise) when focusing?
 
Ta. I've updated the camera firmware. Been using the camera and lens today and I didn't notice the noise... Seems to handle well and do what I want it to do - so far. Bumped into a friend of mine and he started drooling over the camera's looks! :)

They do look nice my fav camera at the moment have gone fully Fuji :)

It's a temptation. I'm liking the way it handles better than my X10. Much quicker. I don't think I can give up my DSLRs, but I'm hoping to have found my 'walkabout' camera.

Had to the weight of carrying around an full DSLR kit got to much for me :)
 
I can still cope with the weight of a DSLR and a short lens - but it won't fit in my jacket pocket. I can already see that little 27mm pancake in my future!:D
 
First post on the forum here, been reading plenty of threads for some time. Expecting delivery of an X-E1 with 18-55 lens today!

With the good deals available on these it was too tempting to not give it a go. I had tried to convince my brother a few weeks back but he wasn't convinced in the end.

Current kit is Nikon D90 with Nikkor 18-55 2.8f lens which I'm very happy with although I was being tempted by the idea of moving up to full frame Nikon D610.

With 2 young kids carrying the DSLR on family outings and holidays is a bit of a pain so potentially the X-E1 will replace if it can produce the same IQ (I am hopeful!)

The only doubtful area is the AF for pictures of the kids when they're moving around but we'll see.

Pretty much read through this whole thread - thanks for all the info! I like that the JPEGs straight out of the camera are meant to be top notch. I'm not someone who spends time in LR.

One thing - do you think the camera will come with the latest firmware?

Great to hear on the IQ, I am hoping to come out about the same with the X_E1 having the edge over the D90 but perhaps the Nikkor G lens making up for it over the Fuji zoom. We'll see! Should be under half the weight anyway.

Bad news - postman has apparently been but didn't ring the bell and left a card. Oh, well tomorrow it is.
 
Have bought extra batteries of Amazon for X-E2 they came in small cardboard box which I've dumped. Anyone found a small plastic box that they would fit in to go in my bag.

You will be suprised how good the Fuji Zooms are:

The IQ I have with my 55-200 is better on my XP1 than the Nikon D7000 I had with the 50 & 35 Nikon Primes and 70-300 zoom. People on The XP1 thread are comapring this lens with the Nikon 70-200 F2.8.

I presume you'll have the 18-55mm which starts at F2.8, and again, this is an excellent lens which I have used on the XE-1 before changing to the XP1. I also have the 16-50 and for a cheap kit lens the quality from this is excellent. I dont think Fuji make a bad lens.

I am sure you will be pleased with your new camera and lens. Enjoy.

I been looking for one of those as well,at the moment just keep them in a stiff sealed plastic bag :)
 
Camera picked up by my wife and charging up ready for later.

Thanks for the feedback on the lenses - if I get on with the camera it's going to be hard to resist getting some more lenses. Some of the long zoom lens pics earlier on this thread certainly look very nice.
 
After reading and patiently answering my questions I bite the bullet and ordered the Fuji X-E1 kit! Received the parcel last Thursday but no time to open and test it properly.

For those who claimed free lens as part of the Fuji promo, how long did you wait after submitting your claim form to Fuji?

I waited the 2 weeks,then it arrived in less than a week :)
 
I'm assuming (hoping) that battery life for my X-E2 improves with repeated recharging as I'm getting less than 100 shots per charge at the moment.

Liking using the camera though, and it's results so far, the funny thing is that every time I take a shot I get the urge to wind the film on! :rolleyes: :D

Getting about 300 shots with my XE-2,but i have brought a few spares :)
 
So had my first play with X-E1 over the weekend and initial thoughts are (bearing in mind I'm not very skilled at photography!):

- Autofocus does seem slow and pretty much hinders trying to shoot anything moving close by (note the camera came with no updates so I did update the body and lens firmware which did improve things). I was expecting it to be on the slow side but is probably slower than I had hoped. Even when you've focussed there seems to be a bit of a delay once button is pressed fully, at least compared to what I'm used to.
- IQ, first impressions are top notch. My brother's currently got my Nikon D90 with 18-55 2.8f G lens so not able to directly compare but gut feel is that IQ is equal or better.
- EVF, this was fine. Quite like it on the whole and like the nice clear aperture, speed, ISO display.
- Low light, mostly got the camera set to AutoISO max 1600. On my D90 I left ISO fixed on 200 and only moved up to 400 / 800 if desperate otherwise I'd go for flash. With the X-E1 the images look perfectly clean at 1600 (not pixel peeked yet!)
- Saying that, I was surprised that the camera was going right up to ISO 1600 in moderate indoor light so do wonder whether the 2.8f is not quite 2.8f. Again, without my D90 to hand to compare it's hard to say if this is just an impression or not!
- General handling, I like how it's set up with the aperture on the lens and speedon the dial - nice and simple for me!
- Flash, I think weaker than the D90 - probably won't see much use but we'll see.
- Nice size compared to the SLR I can see that I'll slip this in a bag more often that I currently do with the D90.

Overall, I like the camera a lot and will be keeping it for now. For the price (once I sell the free lens) there can't be much else that can deliver the same IQ. If the autofocus was SLR speed then it would be a dream camera but for now I'm going to work with it and see how it compares directly to the D90.

The only downside is taking pics of my young kids - getting action pics is pretty much out of the question but I've already got some cracking photos of them when they're relatively still.

Any further tricks to speed up the focussing are welcome!
 
I find the handgrip really helps but then I am 6'2 with big hands. I didn't want to add a grip to a body that I purposely bought to be small, but now rarely take it off. A decent case has a similar effect so you might want to try that too.
 
Spotted it on DPreview but thought the direct link was easier. Being able to switch face detection on and off from a Fn button is a plus for me.

Done mine,havnt had a chance to check everything new over,but usually with Fuji their update are alway good with lots of + :)
 
Look like I just joined the X-E2 club.. My finger slipped on the amazon website.

I shall be getting the 35mm as the freebie, and probably get an 18mm off here to be going on with.

Has anyone used the Samyang 85mm f/1.4 with a converter on any of the Fuji bodies? Could be a interesting combo.

I have used a canon converter with an old 100mm f2.8 lens and also a converter with a 50mm f1.4

Good results and looks great too :)

One of the first shots with my new X-E2 and the 18mm f/2. Only messing around with it inside, but the high ISO is pretty dammed good. Cant wait to get out and use it properly.

Looking to use my Nikkor lenses (AI and AFD) with the X-E1, what brand of adaptors have you tried that works flawlessly with the camera? Thanks! :)
