Fuji X-E1/X-E2/X-E2S/X-E3 Owners Thread

any lens you use must have an aperture ring

Ain't necessarily so ;)

The Nikon - X adaptor I have is designed to work with G lenses. There's a small lever on the side that move about half an inch. That's it from f2.8 - f22 (or whatever). There's no way of knowing what aperture you have set apart from how far you move the lever - but it kind of gives you min, max and somewhere in between.

The very nice thing is the viewfinder gains up so you can leave it set at f22 all day if you like.

ETA: that Dungeness pic above was shot on a Fuji X-E1 with Sigma 8mm in a Nikon fit which has no aperture ring. I was aiming for somewhere around f11 but it's hard to tell on a fisheye ;)

The xp1 has a hybrid finder, better LCD, better build, "better" size for larger lenses and zooms. It's just more of a premium model. I've had both and I like them both but at the moment the xp1 deal makes it much better IMO.

All of that (and basically nothing else as far as I'm aware). If you like the hybrid finder or the larger size, get the X-Pro 1. If you don't and it's cheaper get the X-E1.

I have both. Most of the time I grab the X-E1.

The XP1 also has a shutter speed dial lock. XE1 does have a built in flash though.

Value works out as follows...
XE1 + 18-55 = £700 after cashback, sell the 18-55 and the body costs £400.
XP1 + 18mm + 60mm = £850, sell the 18mm and 60mm and the body costs around £300.

Either way, its a lot of camera for little money.

That's what I thought really. Thanks for the reply.
Which "deal" are you talking about, as there really isn't even a huge cost difference either.
Although the smaller body would I suppose, by definition be more appropriate as a take anywhere camera.

Xp1 plus 18 plus a choice of 27/35 or 60 at Amazon for 850.

Thanks for that. That is an amazing deal.
My wife will not be pleased when I tell her what I am about to do !
My thinking is to get the 35 for free, going from the feedback on here.

Just looked at Wex, they are doing the same deal for £899, and giving away a Billingham bag worth £120 too.

Depends on wether you need the bag.

I got XP1 and 18mm for 899, used the £50 voucher on a 35mm (35mm has £100 cashback), and will claim a 60.

Total for XP1, 18, 35 & 60. £1158.

Hi, Thanks for that Jonathan I wasn't aware there is one made that can work with G Lenses even if it doesn't do it very well. I would still prefer to know what aperture I was working at.

See my post in the wanted forum if anybody is looking to take one of these deals ;)

Brilliant. Thanks for that.
Is the £50 applied immediately so I can order together or do I need to wait?
Sorry for all the questions.

I ordered the XP1 and my voucher was credited immediately, heard it can take up to an hour so follow my steps. No problem.

EDIT: Just stick the 35 in your cart AFTER ordering the XP1 and check every 15-20 minutes but you need to go to the stage just before payment to check its been applied, basically the overview of your order.

The hybrid optical/electronic viewfinder on the X-Pro1 is the main difference, but that adds size and weight to the body so the X-E1 is smaller and lighter. I use reading glasses and found I couldn't get on with the hybrid viewfinder so that ruled out the X-Pro1 for me. The current good deals suggest there might be a replacement camera in the works some time soon...

Anybody gone for the XE-2

Not yet, but I'll be after a second body at some point this year and it'll either be the X-E2 or xpro1. It's whether the ovf will benefit portrait shooting as it's sometimes a royal pain with just the evf, especially using manual legacy lenses.

I read a week or so ago that there are no immediate plans to replace the Xpro1, it won't be this year anyway (and that apparently came from a bod at fuji, although it's all just speculation)

Is there any way to lock exposure during video mode? I noticed you can use the exposure comp which is good.

Could you elaborate on the royal pain with legacy glass? I've been thinking of a X-E2 or Xpro to use with my Pentax-M lenses...

Depends on how your using it... I'm referring to studio use and having the camera in full manual. Not too bad if you have a model that will sit still.

Hopefully there's a trick I don't know about but iso 100 at 1/160 at f8 means you can't see a jot with the evf.

Anybody have the Sunwayphoto L-bracket?

1. Is it as good as it looks? I'm familiar with their L-brackets but not the multi part ones.

2. Where did you get it?

sorely tempted to change over fully to fuji, anyone running just a fuji setup, i know its a little off topic but in a way its the right place to ask as well. also anyone used the 55-200 and thoughts on it?

Early trip out with X-E2

At Panamoz the X-E1 is roughly £590 and the X-E2 £800. ( Elswhere the difference is greater: Wex £719 and £1150). Is the X-E2 worth the extra money? The differences don't seem to be very significant? I have no Fuji cameras at the moment; if I had the X-E1 I wouldn't consider an 'upgrade'.

then there will be the XE-3, then the 4.....

I took a slightly different route, I already had (and still have an X100, which is a keeper), but bought an X-E1 in late October with the 35mm lens, claimed the free 18mm, sold the X-E1 and 18mm, and bought an X-E2 with 18-55, and so ended up with the two lenses that I wanted (and the target camera) for not much more than £1350, not as good as some of the current X-Pro1 deals, but still did what I wanted.

Going to add a couple more lenses this year when funds permit.

Hi, I've not changed just to the Fuji X cameras, I like my Nikons too much for that. However I do use the 55-200 Fuji lens and I consider it to be every bit as good as anything of comparable focal length that I have used on a Nikon. It's an absolute "Cracker" of a lens.(y)

Hope this helps.

Downsized from a 5D2 with 24-105 / 17-40 / 100mm Macro / 70-300mm L lenses to XE1 with 18-55 / 14mm / 55-200mm and dont miss it at all.
So much lighter and easier to carry around neck all day.
No sore shoulders and back.

Fuji isnt so good at tracking moving targets but 95% of my shots are landscapes so not an issue for me.
Sold all my Canon gear which more than paid for my Fuji kit,
55-200 is a cracking lens, 1/2 the size and weight of my old 70-300 L.

I saw this posted elsewhere - I don't have mine to hand to test but it might help

Their were enough differences for me to make the upgrade worthwhile :)

I owe you a pint :) works a treat! Makes using old glass a lot, lot easier.

Sort of where I want to be with my (budget) lens lineup at the moment, good coverage of focal range (for me anyway, never really needed long lenses);

Samyang 8mm f2.8
Fuji 35mm f1.4
Rokkor 58mm f1.4
Soligor 90mm f2.5 Macro

mighty impressed with the lens turbo adapter.....for those that don't know about it, it contains a lens that through some jiggery-pokery, gives you the (near enough) same FoV that you would get from using a FF sensor (and thus a shallower perceptive DoF). It has the added bonus of also making the lens virtually a stop faster. This means my Soligor 90mm f2.5 becomes f2 (keeps the 90mm FoV rather than becoming a 135mm) and my Rokkor becomes a 58mm f1.0 (instead of 85mm :) Love it!!! (The original SpeedBooster adapter is around 4-5 times the price but not worth that much more of an advantage over the LT). The legacy glass will more than do for studio portrait work, just now need a second body and that 56mm when it comes out!

also took a trip to the park with the kids this afternoon with the Samyang 8mm attached. Set to 1m and f4 this time as i'm still messing with it but it's great fun to use! All images straight out of camera jpegs from custom setting; AutoISO:6400, Black and White film mode with Yellow filter, H-Tone: +1, S-Tone: +1 and Sharpness: +1......

Love the slide one ;)

I looked it up. At 1m and f/4 everything from 45cm to Jupiter is in focus. That should make life easier.

Excellent. Glad to be of help. I've given up drinking as a New Years resolution so just send your rokkor and speed booster instead...

now, now...let's not get carried away :)

on the subject of this nifty little adapter, I decided to do a quick comparison....couldn't do a direct one as i've no normal adapter (so couldn't compare same lens with or without LT). So I put the Fuji 35mm f1.4 against thr Rokkor 58mm 1.4 + Lens Turbo. Both set at f1.4, 1/125 with auto ISO. Tried to stand in as near to the same place as possible;

Fuji 35mm f1.4;

Interesting.....not far off the same FoV, the Rokkor definitely has a shallower DoF, so it should be safe to say it is shooting at f1.0, and the other interesting thing is the Fuji shot at ISO4000 whereas the Rokkor shot at ISO2000 so a stop difference there (well nearly). Just a pity they are quite tricky to get hold of o_O
