Frozen Film Question.........

I have a small freezer in the garage where I have started to store film. Went in this morning to find the door ajar, and what amounted to a small iceberg stopping the door shutting. After chiselling a bucket full of ice from the freezer, the door now shuts nicely, but the film in it was pretty much encased in ice. Turns out my wife (who is cackhanded at the best of times) had decided to put some food in the freezer overnight a couple of weeks ago and not shut the door properly:bang:

Question is, will the film be any worse off for this episode, or will I just need to give it more time to defrost when I come to use it to get rid of all the excess moisture? Given the current price of film, I'm a bit loathe to be throwing away £50+ worth.

Time to get a lock for that freezer!

I have no idea what it will do to the film...

It'll be fine, I mean each roll is in its foil packet isn't it, so they should be protected from most changes in moisture levels, the cardboard boxes might cerrrlapse, but who needs those..:)

The film will either be in the 120 foil wrap or it might be in the canister pots they come in.

I reckon there wouldn't be any difference tbh. Film CAN be stored at room temperature so I cant imagine there would be any problems.

Yesterday I took about 300 rolls of film to the council tip. All outdated but were kept in a freezer. You should have seen the council employee, his mouth was watering with anticipation. They were all boxed and in canisters.

Why ? Should have been, " Why, oh, why ??" He could have posted on here and there would have been umpteen of us to take them off his hands, or even buy them.

I would have paid for those!

as i'm sure many others would have to:shrug:

Including me, even if they were 30 years out of date (for example) for some Lomo. Hey ho..

I gave this much thought. Imagine loading a film, taking 36 shots, purchasing chemicals, processing film." DAMN the film is fogged"

That's the fun of playing with expired film! you never know what you'll end up with.

Now I may be wrong but it sounds like somebody's doing a good impression of a troll?

I was curious of that, I gave the benefit of the doubt though

Edit; after reading marks post below, i think i'll have to retract my statement giving the benefit of the doubt, perhaps I should have gone with instinct ;)

Hmmm... i'm starting to think so too, not the first time we've been to the tip, is it ?...

And various other posts that smell like someone trying to "get a rise" from others. :nono:

Be very careful everyone, time to make sure your goats don't go near that little bridge in the corner ;)

We'll, I've never done that but I did toss a perfectly good - and cosmetically clean - Olympus 35RC that I bought new in about 1975, the matching flash unit, a couple of developing tanks and some other stuff that I now regret throwing away before we left South Africa. It could easily have gone into storage with everything else, but I didn't think I'd ever want/use it again. I suppose it doesn't really matter, and it's too late now.

No goats? Seems you need to buy a few :D

PS: I have some for sale in the classifieds

I'm a student, i cant afford my own goats, can some kind soul on here donate some to me?

Hell, I'll even come and collect and deliver them personally to deserving folk in the f&c section on a sort of film powered European tour.
