Parking enforcement officer might not be able to touch it (though I think that loophole was swiftly closed), but he can certainly call a constable to do it for him ;)

And don't try it if parking on the street.
Obscuring your reg plates on the (public) highway is an offence all by itself :-)

They remove the block, when you remove the cover.

A constable? what's one of those? If a lot of folk started using these covers there wouldn't be enough police to, err ........police the issue. :)

I guess you could cut a hole out for the number plate though. Is it still a requirement that the traffic warden has to write the vehicle make/model on the ticket?

Write?...What's that? ;)

I used to use an invisibility cloak for my car. But people kept driving into the back of it. You should see the confused look on their faces!

That pic was just to illustrate the blocks. :p
I'm sure they would place 'em to more effectively ensure your continued presence.

I know how you feel, I reported a very similar problem awhile back,
I took it to the garage to have the cloaking device removed as people kept pulling out of side turnings and roundabouts right in front of me.
They, the garage, claimed they did it, but I fear that they are taking money under false pretences :(

Only IF you had fitted an automatic proximity triggered photon torpedo system to prevent this pesky issue..........

:)

But you've forgotten that someone will be along to steal the cover, your battery and wheels. At that point the traffic warden photographs your car and issues a ticket whilst the passing constable, who hadn't seen the thief, does you for abandoning your car. Was it really worth it just to save a quid? :exit::)

And they wonder why people prefer internet shopping to actually going "into town" to shop?

I say 'they' as in its probably the local council's saying that to mask the probability of it being their fault..
Agreed 110%
.For various reasons, not least the ridiculous rents and then "giving" the empty shops over to charities,
double yellow lines everywhere, plus very limited official parking.
That sums up my local town to a "T" ;)

blimey where do you live if its only a quid to park...

Sorry, my ignorance of parking costs stems from the fact there's no towns nearby and it's about 80 miles to the nearest one so I don't go there very often.

I do agree that the city centre costs are what drives small businesses away from the area. By the time the customer has driven there avoiding speed cameras, paid his quid to park, if he can find a space :) and walked round the charity shops to find there's no independent shops left he's as well buying online.

Traders in Cerdigan reckon that recent...errr...free street parking has led to an increase in trade.

But there has to be something worth going to see and do to draw folk into the centres. Sounds like there is in Cerdigan but so many centres I read about have nothing nowadays. The shops that made the city interesting have been priced out of business and the large chains have moved to the outskirts of town.

Sorry Cobra, I've hijacked your thread to moan about the state of city centres. And I don't even go to them. :)

Posts / threads do that they evolve, so no worries you carry on

Oooh I've got one of those covers for legit reasons (leaky car), never leave it in the car when I go into town though
perhaps I should try,
PIA to get on the car though, think I'd rather pay the parking charge and our car parks use number plate recognition anyway

Actually that brings to another point about modern technology.
Although I do like not having to worry about keeping my parking ticket safe, just
have to remember my car registration number to pay ;) (you'd be surprised at how many people
don't and have to go to their cars to find out :ROFLMAO: )
I do wonder whether it makes things easier for car thieves, all they have to do if they see a car
they want is pay for parking and drive out

There is so much to get angry about, I don't know where to start.

Maybe by blaming groups of people, like motorists, or the council, or those people who don't support their local businesses and buy grey imports online. The police perhaps. And both taxi drivers and Über drivers. And people who sell fake invisibility cloaks for cars.

Wasn't it Petrocelli 70s TV series, Who used to put an out of order cover over parking meters? He was a lawyer so he knew the law. Are there any parking meters left? Never seen one in years

Ah yes Pertrocelli I'd forgotten about him.

Single use parking meters, I suspect that they are probably still in London and maybe other major city's.
But I don't know for sure.

I think some used to put fake tickets on their cars, Police Traffic wardens then assumed vehicle has already been ticketed ...

Not following.
Does knowing the reg and paying for parking gain you access to the car and start it?
Serious question btw.

Switch ya brain on girl, :p
Means you don't need to put a ticket in barrier machine to get out! Lol

Exactly (y) Most thieves already know how to get into and start their chosen car target

Ah gotcha.
You do need to put a ticket in the exit machine but it's the right one.

Don't even need that here then.
Still have to enter the reg number to get parking, but no exit machines at all!

Yep, when you go in they do a number plate recognition thing and the barrier goes up, when you go back you have to type in your registration number in to
the pay machine, pay the fee and drive out, barrier opens automatically, dunno whether it just does the number plate or more but a thief could easily
hide their face.
So you only need to enter the number when you pay before you collect the car, and yes it did catch me out but luckily I had a picture of the car on my phone :)

Luckily they have no such systems where we usually park - I have no idea as to the reg. no. of the s***box! I know mine, I know Mrs Nod's and I know one of the bikes' but the others are a mystery. [/firstworldproblems]

they say the internet killed the high street, I say 'they' as in its probably the local council's saying that to mask the probability of it being their fault..

I still quite like going in town, what I do not like are retail parks.

I quite like going into town but I have a hatred of shopping! My "shopping" usually consists of cups of coffee, pints of beer, and grabbing some food and bottled beer on the way home. I don't have a car so have to buy food & beer in quantities I can physically carry home.

All I buy on our local high street is petrol, other than that it's just full of charity shops, takeaways, cafes and Costa Coffees and the like, none of which are of any interest to me.
