Heritage Open Days

Enjoy free entry to hundreds of National Trust places to visit on Saturday 9 September 2006 and help make history.

The doors to many of our houses, gardens and other much-loved properties around England, Wales and Northern Ireland are opening for free on 9 September to celebrate Heritage Open Days, as part of the History Matters – pass it on campaign.

Whether you decide to return to a favourite National Trust haunt or choose to discover something new, we want you to have a great day out.

In doing so you'll add your support to History Matters – pass it on, which is calling on people to show the importance of history in their everyday lives. And with your help, we hope to break visitor records for one day.

Might be worth a look at if there's something you've always fancied going to.

Personally I can recommend either Formby Point (which is free anyway, except for the car parking), or Fountains Abbey, which is gorgeous (although it's useful if the weather is nice).

Thanks for that Marcel - There's somewhere I've had my eye on for a while - might just go now it's free ;)

thanks allan, yes we will be leaving Notts around 9am and hope to be at Levens by midday, i will google for hilltop.
many thanks

I have a feeling it may well be.

Nevertheless, you can use Saturdays free entry day to scope out places, and even though it may be busy to get the shots you want, you have scouted the place out and know that going back at a quieter time might be worth the entrance fee

Was gonna say I can get the brochures as I do the scanning and Mac work on them for the trust, but on second thought that would be silly cause if anyone from the trust was reading this I'd be in big dodo. Hay ho.
