This may well end up as my photo 52 for this week, but for the moment it is empty rather than curved.

There's plenty of curve there, could only be more if you opened a bottle and poured....

If only I still drank :)

Running out of ways to shoot things like this. Lack of flash, backgrounds and tripod is making it tricky to do anything more interesting. If you're all having a collection for my birthday, now you know what I want ;)

Absolutely and totally lost for anything to shoot this evening. I had almost resorted to giving it a miss when I decided to have a final rummage through my odds and sods.

Unfortunately sacrifices had to be made and I cannot guarantee that no animals were hurt in the making of this photo.

Thanks Briony. I wish the lighting was something I'd got right in camera but it's more down to the PP. Severe lack of space and equipment means I'm shooting most things under tungsten room lighting and sometimes using the onboard flash (which casts a shadow with the 24-105 lens). Father Christmas forgot to bring me anything useful :)

The bunny in the pan struck a cord with me Darren.....not sure why yet but I'll come back and tell you if I find out.

Not too long to go now eh?

Bob

You wouldn't know...really like the shot!

Thank you :)

One week today. Technically only 7 more images, but possibly 8 :)

I am unfortunately confined to the house still so this is going to get trickier. Not sure what else i can fit in the pan :D

Had the bright idea today to try and capture the birds which perch in the branches about 30-40ft from my first floor flat rear windows. Unfortunately I only have 105mm of reach so getting any detail would have been impossible unless they'd flown up to pose in front of me. This is an almost 100% crop through my dirty windows (hey it's too cold to open them!) and whilst it's never going to be a good picture of a bird, I do like it as a picture with a bird in it :)

I guess a 400mm and 50d/7d would have to be on my shopping list to carry on with this sort of thing with any success. And whilst I've never previously been a particular fan of the bird forum I can understand the attraction of sniping away for something elusive and maybe one day I'll give it a proper try.

If I could get past the "what's that prat doing" thoughts in my head I'm sure it would be much easier :)

My Photo 52 week 1 entry. Can't tell you how many eggs I've tried to photograph today, managed to break two as well :)

Little did I know that whilst I was checking on dinner, dinner was checking on me.

Apologies for the splashes :)

Darren this thread goes from strength to strength. Be proud of it.

I don't want to pick out individual shots in case you think it's a critisism of the others, but I shall be really disappointed when you get to the big 4 0 next week.

Have you thought of getting the photos made up into a photo book (Blur or similar)? I bet your daughter would love to see her Daddy's photos in print and you could even personalise it to her - a kind of reverse birthday present.

In the meantime, I hope you're feeling better now - even if it does mean back to work on Monday! :D

Was in Jessop's the other day and they do a glossy printed hardcover photo book. This post actually came to mind as a nearly perfect set of photos for one, specially as it could be a gift for the 40th.

Hope that makes sense? Probably my favourite set of photos I've seen on this forum so far. Each one is different and look forwards to seeing the rest as I couldn't really even guess what they may be.

Poor wabbit.

Keep up the good work!

Love the bunny shot!

Not sure my daughter would be too happy if she saw it seeing as it's her bunny (no it's not mine!) :)

Haha, love it!

Thank you muchly.

Thank you Jean. I can't say I'll be too disappointed as it's making my head hurt, but glad at least some of them are on the right track. Hadn't considered a book, but might be a nice reminder that I took the effort to get myself going again.

Haha I love the dinner shot! :) You must be getting near the end of your photos by now?

Thanks. Four more shots to go, which only takes me to wednesday. As my birthday is thursday it might have to be 41 or I'll just give myself a rest day and enjoy a quiet drink instead.

Thanks very much. I'm very pleased you like them. I'd have been happy if just one person had got something from them but I'm quite ecstatic (by my own measures) by how these have been accepted.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time.

This may or may not work for anyone else, but I think I've gotten to where I wanted to be with this one. I hope it's neither too exposed or too dark. I'll let you decide.

It is exactly that. Only took you two minutes to work out :)

Thank you. One happy cutomer

Time to catch up on the sky plus before attempting to look through the rest of the 52's.

I bought this today with the idea of a bright and cheerful picture but instead it leant itself more to a gritty, grainy high contrasty (bit of an) abstract.

Probably some extra strong marmite been rubbed on this, but I like mine thick :)

Oh and it does look better on black (click through for the option). Oh to have a lightbox feature on the forums!

Nice photo.

You're right, it does look better on a black b/g. I do wonder, however, if this is because the framing is (IMO) a bit off - the top of the pineapple is (as much as a curved object can be) on the centre-line horizontally - I think sticking to the "option" of thirds might have helped here? (alternatively, you might be able to cheat, and turn it into a slightly panoramic shot...)

Nonetheless, another good, well-taken, and imaginatively thought-out shot. Keep up the good work - I'm enjoying following this, and will be sorry when you hit 40!

Thanks for your comments Nigel. I hadn't even considered placement in the frame based on any rules, I just liked it here. I think trying to move it down (or adding extra space above) would leave an image that wasnt' quite so "in your face" (as much as it can be). I'm gonna stick with it and say the middle(ish) of the body is on the intersection of the left and bottom third ;)

I shall be glad when thursday comes and I can finally (happily) spend a day not trying to concoct something if I don't feel like it :)

Just to clarify what I meant, I meant pushing the pineapple higher up in the frame, thereby filling two-thirds of the frame. That said - it's really not that off-putting - it's a really good photo, and one that I'd be proud of!

What do you mean?? I thought you were starting your 52 then... ;)

Oh I see :bonk: Been a long day and didn't quite follow :)

My 52 is up and running somewhere. Thankfully having someone else tell us the theme makes it easier and of course it's only once a week :)

Wow - have just seen this thread for the first time tonight and I love it!

Only got my DSLR on New Year's Eve and due to the weather and work and everything else I've hardly taken any shots yet so your photos are very inspiring.

I think you should be chuffed to bits at what you've achieved with these photos. I'm just gutted I've only discovered them tonight.

I look forward to the remaining few shots :)

Really like 'alone in the dark' Darren. Similar to the shot of your palm I think. They're life studies of the human form. Really concentrating the viewers focus on what the human body looks like, without other elements to distract. A bit like some of Man Ray's work.

Thank you WozzaTT. Shooting round work and weather and the fact it's so dark all the time really is tricky this time of year. I've struggled to think but if you want to get going just find anything around the house and get practicing. Play with composition and light and unusual angles and at the very least you'll have learnt what some of those buttons do :) Enjoy your new camera and get clicking.

Many thanks Alex. Me and Man Ray in the same paragraph. Something for my epitaph :) Would prefer to have someone else to shoot and if not then a tripod and remote release would come in handy. And some lighting and space  Just glad I haven't broken the camera yet ;)

I might squeeze one more in before the end!

I did a similar shot for my 52 yesterday as part of the Poems/Poetry theme, but wasn't too happy with the outcome and so reshot again tonight to get a bit more face into the action shot :)

Very tired tonight, work has knocked me for six so I'm going to post this as my 39th entry and sit and relax for the rest of the evening.

And for those of you who haven't seen my 52 thread, here is the poem -

Stevie Smith - Not Waving But Drowning

Nobody heard him, the dead man,
But still he lay moaning:
I was much further out than you thought
And not waving but drowning.

Poor chap, he always loved larking
And now he's dead
It must have been too cold for him his heart gave way,
They said.

Oh, no no no, it was too cold always
(Still the dead one lay moaning)
I was much too far out all my life
And not waving but drowning.

Thanks Briony. One more to go and I have no idea what it's going to be yet, but then that's nothing unusual :)

Tomorrow I join the 40+ club, so here is the last of my forty to forty.

It's obviously a self portrait but I've chosen to surround myself with all the things that I couldn't live without. And that put simply is just my daughter. There is nothing in my past or in my future which will ever mean as much to me.

And tonight I got a card in the post from her addressed to "Dear the BEST Dad" as i won't see her until Friday. That means more than any lottery win could ever do. I cried :D
