I somehow doubt my ex wife would be calling me, she's not my daughters mother!
I'd deal with it the same way I did for the first 35 years of my life, by getting the message when I am not driving, either at home, or by way of message to where I work.
The same way my family dealt with it when my mother died. The same way my parents dealt with it when my grandparents died......In one of the cases we were living abroad at the time. Oddly, the message still got through to my dad, in spite of us not having any form of phone.
The same way millions of people have dealt with approaching death over the years.
What you are describing, apart from being melodramatic, is an unlikely scenario, and doesn't justify danger to other road users.
Besides, like it or not, if you used a phone in those circumstances it's illegal. You might have mitigation, although as you can't have known that before you used it, but thats all.
abusive and silly remarks don't help your case.
