For the 'younger' members of TP....

Recently turned 20 so finally out the teens! :D have only been shooting for around 6 months, but have learned a lot in that time (self taught). Started with a 550d, but have since been using older cameras more often as I have fast become a massive lover of film! Currently using a Nikon em and Ricoh kr10-x, but am bidding on a Ricoh gr1v just now on eBay :)

Don't know if I qualify as being a fellow young Photographer as I'am 25 but I do thoroughly agree with many comments.
As a keen photographer I too enjoy participating in my hobby whenever I can, often going out in the evening for that sunset shot, or pulling up on the way to work to catch something you may have spotted.
Whilst my friends aren't critical of my chosen interests I do agree that there is often a certain negative stigma attached to someone who walks around with a DSLR hung round their neck. It does seem to be a bizarre reaction to me seen as many of Hesse will hen walk away, take out heir mobile phone, and then take a photo....still photography surely :-s.

Like many of you have said, for whatever reasons any of us have got into photography, it should be those reasons that keep reminding us that our creative side is our best form of displaying character and personality!!

I'm 25 and feel like the old farts need to make way for the younger, fresher generation! Lol just kidding, I've been on the game for 3 years.

As long as it pays the rent :naughty:

I'm 17 and I'm going into my second year of an extended national diploma in photography and i agree with what people are saying about people not really caring, i mean were separated into two classes of 12 and 15 and people arant coming back this year as its too much hard work for them so were going into one big class, why do people see photography as a 'doss' subject, it was a lot less intense at gcse than at college, over 2 years of gcse we completed 2 a3 folders of work (about 70 sides per folder) and after my first year of college I've completed about 10 so thats 140 sides in 2 years compared to 700 in a year so its very different.

This actually worries me, as surely it should be about quality of the shots produced not quantity. So they are expecting you to produce 2 shots aday while at college (assuming it is a full time course) ontop of all the theory work you have.

I can sort of understand some people leaving with that work load.

By the way I am not knocking you I am commenting on the course.

I'm 15 and going into year 11 in september, I took up photograpy last year when my mam bought a 500d for her buisness but she couldnt use it and wasn't prepaired to learn so i got that job and then started to learn properly and now i do a lot of events for school and now Im trying out video, I made a music video of my friends, I made a thread if you's wana check it out!

yes it is a full time course, it is the quality of work produced (written and images) but we have different projects over the year, we have had 10 in one year so all the theory from these make up a lot of writing and research that fills up the books.
you have to have the writing and research to backup your images as you can have amazing images but then if your written work is lacking you will get marked down

actually thinking about it each project usually requires a minimum of 10 images so that is about 3 images a day (never thought about it like that) :D
but i enjoy it and i actually enjoy going there unlike school where that was something i had to do this is something i want to do :)

I am 18 and am going in to my second year of Photography at college after dropping out of sixth form because my photography teacher said I was not doing enough work, I find the work load to be okay, the problem is other parts of the course such as animation and art...

Mathis I could understand of they had us working out exposure times.

I agree that a lot of people don't understand how hard photography can be, at the end of our first year there are still people that don't understand what aperture is! Because of these people we have depth of field explained to us every couple of weeks!

Ranting aside - I really enjoy my course and am looking forward to the next year and the many interesting projects to come!

Thanks for answering, I an really pleased you are enjoying the course, it still scares me that they expect you to produce that many quality images everyday.

I'm 29 and consider myself as a young member:) I've been taking random photos for around 5 years, but only last year I realised that wildlife(bird) photography is my hobby:)
Wish I realised that before my kids were born, as I've got no time for it now:D

29 ??......29 & 1/4, 1/3, 1/2 or more, cos you're all washed up at 30 lol

seriously, anyone over 20 posted in this thread has done so with a big ole spadefull of wish full thinking

Well there is that but even an over thirty can be one of the youngest at a TP meet

Me - Im 22. Always liked photography - Just getting into it properly though! :)

I'm 24 and always liked photography, I started properly since Xmas when I got my first SLR. I'm yet to find what field I'm best in.

I'm 22, always liked taking pics but really got into it when I finished sixth form and went to uni and did a photography degree - although it took the fun out of it sometimes!

21 here, been a member on these forums for just over 2 years and have learnt a lot since!

Started off doing landscapes which I enjoyed a lot, and still do but I'm getting into the video side a lot more now. I have recently started nightclub photography which gives me some nice pocket money and is pretty fun at the same time. :)

I'm 27, about to turn 28 and I've owned a DSLR for about 18 months now. Owned far too many P&S cameras before that though. Entirely self taught with no books, guides etc. Just forum help and common sense, plus a decent technical background knowledge of how a camera works due to selling them for long enough in my old career.

My mrs is 22 and has recently gone to a mirrorless camera. She picked up the hobby off of my passion for it and at first was pretty hesitant, until she realised she can get a bright pink camera (nikon J1) and take far nicer photos than she ever could on her cheap P&S which she used extensively whilst traveling about and random days out.

I need my photography hobby to keep me sane most of the time just as an escape and to keep my mind busy and away from the stresses of my uni degree. I've got an entire year in a hospital from february onwards which is meant to be pure living hell, so I'll need all the sanity I can muster!

Just turned 26 and received my first ever dslr for my 26th birthday :-) loving it so far - started using a bridge and went from there.

24 here. Engineering undergrad just started my final year, there will be a job at the end of my course for sure. I was pretty good at art and music back in GCSE days but never pursued either as career choice and chose engineering because I loved maths and physics and it was the safe respectable choices. I always wonder "what if I had chosen a different path?" every now and then, not that I regret it, I love what I do, but it's an interesting thought...

hi everybody, im 22 and have been photographing for more than 6 years. was intended to treat photography as a hobby but it turned out to be a huge part of my life

OOoh, never seen this thread - 21 here.

Yeah right
