For the 'younger' members of TP....

Im 20 been into photography for about a year with my knackered 10d:lol: but had cameras for aslong as I can remember (I had a couple of fixed focus cheap film cameras when I was younger)

18, but act about 8! Im just a happy snapper. I don't take it serious although probs becasue I have seen others' photos and know I can't match it!! (maybe one day!)

I like the macro and get told that its 'sad' by my mates who like to play CallOfDuty from dawn til dusk! I am looking to hire a macro 1:1 lens to give it a go, so depending on the outcome it may get a bit serious !

P.s. im Lewis!

im 27. Started snapping with an old 35mm compact when I was about 10 and helping my uncle develop in his darkroom. moved over to my first digital when I was about 16. Setup lensworx the end of last year and currently going back in time and trying to revive my love of fim with an old contax 159 35mm film.

I'm 25 (just...June). Bought my first DSLR 3 years ago, now work with Nikon, Mamiya, Broncolor and Elinchrom kit. Was full time freelance from Sept last year until June this year, temporarily taken on a full time contract. Work in fashion and portrait, commercial and social. Also assistant to a full time international fashion photographer and a commercial portrait photographer

27 last week, started in digital about 10 years ago, before then used various film compacts and my mums 35mm.

I think I feel old. I was saying to myself "How can he have started in digital 10 years ago?" but then I remembered I was loaned a digital camera back in 96. The floppy disc only stored 8 images and it was a stunning 0.3mp sensor. Still have some images from that on a zip disc, if only I could find a iomega zip reader...

I'm 17, got into photography at the age of 7 when my uncle bought me a digicam and it's been uphill ever since!

Bought my First DSLR (Sony a300) back in Dec '08 and planning on upgrading to an a33 or possibly go the Pentax route or even get a compact system camera such an Olympus EP-1 or something.

Ive just thought about this further. My first DSLR was the Nikon D50, which was released in 2005, which was 6 years ago. Thats just scary! However before that I had a host of bridge and compact cameras, the first being an Olympus Camedia with a whopping 1.3 MP we got free with a Tiny PC, which was bought for my GCSE studies.. Ive realised it was actually about 1998 when I got this, so its actually more like 14 years!
Scary!!

I was six when i first picked up a camera, went to the kent show and i love my cars i went round and took photos of the front, the side and the back. I got back into photography last august when my mum and dad sugested a camera, bought a pannasonic fz38, went to silverstone a week late and was hooked and said straghit away i know what i want for chrimbo and then i got my digital slr and im well chuffed with it, got one of my pics published in the local paper and my pictures being used on a dvd for a local club meet at lydden hill

I'm 18, bought my first camera god knows when, i must've been around 12 at the time - a kodak easyshare 7300 or 7310 i think. Then a few years later a bought a Fuji Finepix S3500, which is still my current camera though i've been able to use my parents Lumix LZ10 which is far better - planning on buying my first dSLR sometime within the next year.

i am 13. Been shooting for 4 years but snapshots until one and a half years ago. I use a Pentax bridge camera. (Have used other people's DSLR's) mostly bridge and before that compact.

Interesting. My youngest is 13 but I haven't let him join forums yet. I started him out with an old compact and he was taking great photos so I lent him my backup 400D. He's now shooting with that and bought his own lenses (plus a few upgrades from me).

He's even got his own website we're slowly building.

I hope you didn't over charge him

Your son seems to have a natural gift for photography. Just looked on the website and the one with the tiger/lion looking like it is running towards prey which is close up #4 i think it is on big cats is superb! :)

Those are some absolute beauties! I especially like the owl/eagle shots. He must have been using a pretty fast lens!

He's got a 400D, most of the big cat shots were on the TP day at the WHF place, shot with the cheap 18-55 kit lens. In the TP comp that day he beat me :'( ;) and doesn't let me forget it. Some of the eagle owl shots he used my 10-22mm lens.

Other than that he's got my old 70-200 f4 and bought himself the 100-400. I've just bought him a nifty 50.

He's got a great eye for a shot. We entered him for young wildlife photographer of the year with some puffin shots and he was shortlisted, but they emailed him asking for his age and he didn't check his email and reply in time, so he missed out :bang:

Ho Hum - it's a lesson.

I must put his puffin shots on his website.

21 here. Only got into photography since the start of 2011, so still very much in the experimental phase.

Well you have some good gear to get you going there - manual focus lenses and m4/3 are a cracking combination.

Oh i really wish i could have done A level in photography. my school didn't that a lot of choices, they didn't even have IT!

am 27 now and started last year, this might sound stupid but would an a level be worth doing at all??

I'm 27 and have been doing it on and off for around 3 years. Thinking about doing a night course to helo improve my skills and get instant critique, though sems quite hard to find the right course for someone who knows a decent amount of the theory, but less of the practice.

19 here as well. Been doing it for the past 2 years and it's been great! But I should really get out a lot more. Haven't done nearly as much photography as I've wanted.

19 here, was always interested in photography because my dad was keen but when he stopped, i forgot about it, bought myself my first dslr, a mighty 400D about 3 years ago and taught myself how to use it. Since going to uni ive got a lot more into it and started shooting 35mm + medium format film for fun, does help that i have a few good mates who are into photography too. shot a few paid events but they just didnt interest me or progress my photography, felt like i was trying to bend to what people wanted not what i wanted

I know I'm not the OP, but I'm curious as to how we lot have improved since our last posts over a year ago. Also, if there are any "younger" members of TP, let us know here!

To get the ball rolling again, I'm 19 been at it for around 5 years and started to raise the game around 2 years ago. So far no higher education because I have been travelling and shooting a lot for the last 12 months. I have a place to study Medical Microbiology in September but the way it's going I may be shooting some serious work by then, so who knows!

An old original post I know but I'ma keep the ball rolling..
I'm twenty in November this year & have been a photography enthusiast since I was about fourteen :} I definitely prefer film to digital which is often unusual for our age right? Anyone else an eager film shooter?

Jacob I did Biomedical Sciences which finished last June so very similar course, even with university I still had plenty of time to go sight seeing in london and take lots of photographs. I only had a compact back then but enjoyed my time all the same. If you get the chance to go to university definitely take it the experience was well worth it without doing the course!

Going back to the original topic, Hi I'm Liz, 21 but 22 in August, always been interested in photography even with my digital compact as I couldn't afford a DSLR until I started working full time. Looking back through past posts and can agree with a lot of the comments. Always get weird looks when I say I'm out going to take photos, I've even once been told that I will always remain single if I insist carrying that thing around with me, (that thing being my camera) I turned round to the bloke in question and said I'd chose my camera over him any day!!! Payback was sweet on that occasion.(sorry to any guys, not bad mouthing you all just this one bloke!)

I will probably do a photography course one day as I feel my shots are still like snapshots, its nice to see there are some younger ones on here!

Liz

Im 18, as for the people saying everyone else in there class or whatever does not take taking photos as seriously as them or not should surely be seen as an advantage to yourself?

Im done caring explaining to my friends about photography, if they dont find it interesting then your photos are probably not that interesting. I hope i am not coming across negative and bringing a downer on the thread haha!

I am starting my first official lens based course in october and am looking forward to it, need to build a darkroom this summer or i its going to be a long one.

I feel sorry for all you who had people dislike photography. Reason? I have at least seven photographer friends and many other friends who appreciate photography. We'll see what it will be like once I get to college though.

For the record, my last post in this thread was when I was 16. I have since turned 17 and looking forward to my 18th!

I do have friends that are photographers too, but not all my friends are exclusively interested in photography, not everybody understands why I like to get up at 4am to photograph the sunrise even if I do take good pictures!

I'm 16, been into it for almost 2 years now i guess. Its pretty good fun :D
