football chat?

Manchester united for me and i do try to get to the games too. As a second cheaper option i also go to a few Doncaster Rovers matches too. You do have to for your local team.

Could be dark horses this year ?

To quote some old fella off the tele, you won't win anything with kids!

But have to say best side I've seen this year (so far) apart the mighty Saints!

The Chelsea v United result last week was a shocker and has left us 5 points off the pace but if United don't win it - I'm not fussed who does as long as it's not Liverpool.

I couldn't cope with them getting a 19th title after finally catching up with their 18

sheep sha.....
I'm shocked.

Should be some good games on the telly tonight / this evening:
FIFA World Cup European Qualifying

Greece v Ukraine, 18:00
Rep of Ireland v France, 20:00
Portugal v Bosnia-Hercegovina, 20:30

I think when you are 25 you are not a kid anymore. Do you remember before last world cup all the talking in media about proper age of English players, and how you were going to win it because of that? well i do. On avarage English players were 26 at that time, same age as Arsenal, but still people talk about them as about kids.
Chelsea will lose few players to African cup, plus thay will have more difficult time at spring, Liverpool ........is rubbish, Man U is not the same this season, so i believe it will be Arsenal this year!!!

chelsea will loose players but they can replace those in the january window due to their transfer ban being postponed

Might as well get all the jokes out of the way now

Leyton Orient supporter here, must be the most not hated team, no threat to anyone I suppose

Must be getting old as they all look like kids to me..... squad depth is the key here when I say kids. Theo needs to kick on when his injury nightmares are over to get back to his best, but the players like Wilshere, Ramsey, Randell etc will all need to step up and be counted......
Yep Chelsea could dip in to the market but I don't think they will. Think the title will be in London, red or blue? Chelsea's to lose I think, but none of you will won't to draw the mighty Saints in the FA cup, if we beat Northampton

is that the same mighty saints that just lost 3-1 to brighton? :D

Well I think it was, they were in red and white.

Neither teams were like the sides I've covered since the start of the season.
Saints didn't......... actually, Brighton played better than they have all year and deserved to win. New manager syndrome? will see next Sat as I think I'm down to cover them against Leeds.
Who'd be a supporter..........had to open my big gob!

I have been a Man City supporter for 39 of my 43 years. What is really frightening is that I have actually gone to games for that long and had a season ticket now for over 25 years. I grew up within spitting distance of the old Maine Road and despite studying and living in East Yorkshire for 8 years in the 90's never missed a home game. Now living in Liverpool and still going strong.

Louise my partner began life as a Liverpool supporter. Even has a photo of her lifting the European Cup. I ground her down and she has now been a season ticket holder at City for 6 years. She has blossomed into a fanatic and can sing Blue Moon with the best of them.

I have never had any grief about being a Blue whilst living in Liverpool. So long as I wasn't a Utd supporter all was good. That has changed this last year with 'God's Own Football Team' having an influx of cash. All of a sudden other supporters are getting twitchy!

We appear to have a good chairman who has made changes to lots of things within the club that won't be apparent to most people. Great website now, season tickets went down in price this year, listened to the supporters about the kit and went back to a proper City kit that was the proper colour and more traditional, better facilities at the stadium, training complex updated, City's fabulous academy retained and improved, etc. Most people are griping about the cash spent on players as that is all they see. Utd and Chelsea have been spending for years. This owner will be around for a while I think.

Most City supporters are realistic and despite the hype in the press the Chairman has set a target for this year of sixth. Anything else will be a bonus that we will greatly accept.

10 years ago this year I was sat at Wembley with my head in my hands as City were being beaten by Gillingham in the 1st Division play off (that's the old 3rd division to them that are old enough to remember). 2 - 0 down with 2 mins to go. 2 - 1 after 90 mins and a lovely Ref called Mark Halsey added 5 minutes of stoppage time on. Paul Dickov equalised. City won on penalties and the rest is history. We were getting 30,000 crowds even then. I reckon we deserve a bit of success.

Mark Halsey is currently suffering with cancer and is receiving treatment. Apart from being a very nice man he also seems to Referee with a smile on his face and can talk to the players. Wishing him a speedy recovery and hopefully he will be back Refereeing in the PL soon.

Blue Moon...........you saw me standing alone..............without a dream in my heart................:)

Times are a changing ;)

Agree with what you say about a City fan in Liverpool. Unfortunately being from the red half (or three quarters ) of Manchester I'm not so welcome lol.

I'm a similar age to you and started suppoting United in the late 70's. Having grown up in the years when Liverpool won everything in sight I'm a United fan who appreciated the success that eventually came our way in the 90's and continues to appreciate everything we do as I know the wheels could come off at any given moment.

The last derby game (has it finished yet) was a reminder of what a fantastic footballing city Manchester is and I would love to see United and City competing for titles rather than local bragging rights.

I agree Mark Halsey is a nice man, he has a restaurant round the corner from us but we used to see him a fair bit in the offices at the Reebok he always stops and chats almost missed a pre match briefing once due to my dad yapping. I think his wife/sister/sister in law is also ill with cancer their family is getting hit hard at the moment and I wish them all a full recovery.

Great post Chris

ps get well soon Mark Halsey :)

What do the liverpool and everton fans think to sharing a ground? is the rivalry to great?

inter milan and ac milan ground share and they have one of the most fiercest rivalries in football so there is the potential there i think. and with a big stadium liverpool would probably be selected as one of the cities to host matches in the world cup (if we get it)

I've got a few Liverpool friends and from what I can gather the majority of 'both' team's fans are aginst it.

Might be the heart ruling the head though ??

my thoughts exactly, both clubs arent in the best financial situation at the moment either

Not a chance. Just someone in the council who's a blue has started it all up again. They are looking for the next best thing after losing the move to Kirkby and their own new ground. As someone else said, the feelings are very much in favour of NOT sharing the ground.

Just because AC and Inter groundshare does not mean it works. Inter are looking to move out at the moment as the ground belongs to neither club - no naming rights so loss of money their for a lucrative market. Also the pitch is one of the worst in Europe. Old Trafford has had a bit of a battering over the last few years about the amount of times they've replaced the turf. It's done 4 times a season at the San Siro at £300k a pop. A game each Saturday/Sunday with Wednesday/Thursday european games and other cup matches. That's a lot of abuse for the surface including our weather .

Other teams in Italy don't like the shared stadiums, Juve and Napoli only moved into the Stadio Delle Alpi because of the World Cup in 1990. The fans hardly fill 50% of it when I see it on tv.

Everton are also concerned about the safety certificate on their present ground and anyone who's been as an away fan into the Bullens St Stand might have got a few splinters in their backside :D The rumours I've heard are that the chairman Bill Kenwright was putting his whole effort behind the move to Kirkby due to the issues surrounding the present ground that are due to come up in the future.

Leeds United fan here although its nearly 2 years since I last went to a game I did have a season ticket for 15 seasons. Marching on Together :help:
