Font?

Is there someway for me to change it? Is there a "preferences" setting to the site?

Actually, I rather like this new font. Seems to be a bit easier on the eyes.

But really, it would be much better and more in keeping with GUI design principles, if the end user could choose the font *they* prefer, the size of it etc.

Each page that loads for me starts out as one font, then in seconds transforms to another. Very irritating.

I suspect thats related to the annoying Ad skimwords thing. The page loads default, then the skimwords thing runs, then the tinkered with fonts kick in.

Only happens in TP :(

Would be nice but somebody probably on a nice little earner...

unfortunately not. 1) noone clicks on them anyway 2) if you do its a tiny fraction of a percentage 3) all the big companies such as amazon and ebay changed their conditions so the amount of commission was reduced to virtually nothing. We could always remove them though and replace with pop up ads everywhere and a membership fee?

for the fonts, it should load as default as the font is coded to the page. i'll raise that with marcel as hes the spanner man

Its just loading straight to the new font here.
Chrome & Windoze 7

Using IE the fonts seem to be all over the shop. I use ctrl-scroll wheel on the mouse to zoom in a bit. Everything nice. Click on an alert to go back to another thread and the faults are all small again.
Clicked an alert to get into this one and the font was bold until the skimwords delay thing had finished.

Going off on a tangent, ish, is there anyway to use a different newsgroup browser as it were? And just connect it up to the TP databases? Hmmmm. Answers on a postcard... (PM)

I think I must be the only person who doesn't care about font size as I can make it bigger if I need to by holding control down and using the wheel on my mouse, no drama, easy peasy. :)

I also am just glad that this site is here and free......

Ty Matty. I'm just curious as to what causes it. It's not the end of the world...simply tedious :-)

So could I. Until yesterday, when each new thread entered and it was resetting to microscopic. As I said before though, this "front end" bit which we, the end users use, should be customisable to use whatever font etc, we, the end users want it to be. There is no need for it to be set centrally really. The fact that it has to be is, well, unfortunate.

Amen to that.

feel free to spend your own time to develop that into the site then.

Being a software engineer its possible I could, but I suspect I might need to be a mod before any tinkering is possible.
But you kind of miss the point, we use a web browser to view this site(or an app), therefore the font settings we set up in our browser should/could apply to the text we read on the site rather than forcing us to use a font of the sites choosing.

youd need to be an admin.

but the point stands. marcel has already said that it would need to be investigated as to whether a user selectable font size plugin would work with the existing code. you should know that this would take time to implement and/or may not be compatible.

but feel free to raise that in the forum discussion thread where marcel will be looking for issues.

I think what I am trying to say is, for something that is in the end going to be viewed on a web browser, to have to write plug-ins or change code for it to work as the end user of that would like implies a very poor design. This is not the Admins or MOD faults but an underlying problem with the X*nforo software I imagine.

Say for instance we have a user with tunnel vision or cataracts or something who finds Comic Sans at font size 26 in bold, the best way for him to read posts. He should be able to set that once and from then on thats all he ever sees. The fact that he cant = poor design. (Again not attacking the mods or anything here, its the forum software at fault Im pretty sure). The forum should just spew out unadulterated basic default text. The end users then set their own preferences via their own browser. (although there then maybe problems with the smileys etc displaying properly.)

which is why this font change came about, someone with eyesight issues mentioned the font was causing problems.

like i say, raise your concerns in the forum discussion section where it will get the attention it requires rather than getting drowned with rubbish threads in OOF.

We're going round in circles here, but yes fair enough.

It does seem a lot of effort, on someones behalf when
only a very small percentage of people actually "care"
But of course make the point in FD if you wish

Just seen this thread - I'm slightly disappointed that it wasn't someone asking about best spots for photos in Font but then even in OOF that would have been surprising I guess:LOL:
