I am a confirmed fish lover ... I get my fish from Andy Race in Oban and he ships it down on overnight rail. My favourite is smoked mackerel but I also get smoked haddock pieces for fish casseroles and some fresh cod fillets.
I could eat fish 7 days a week ... I prefer it to any other main course.
How about you ... do you like fish or are you one of those who avoid it because of fear of bones?

Love fish too. Still fairly easy to get it fresh from the fish houses in Aberdeen. I particularly love Cullen Skink soup.

Smoked haddock and lemon sole are my favourites.

Arbroath smokies are fun too :D

I don't mind Whitebait. As long as the heads and tails have been taken off.

Cod or Haddock from the chippy

Had fresh salmon in Sweden once - awesome.

Don't like it when it's ripe though:gag:

Not forgetting a nice rainbow trout.

I like fish, but keep hearing it's not good to have it more than a couple of times a week because of mercury levels :(

not sure if this is a bit of a tall tail or not tbh, there are so many food scares I'm surprised we're not all like stick insects.

Tiz a well told story and undoubtedly has some truth, trouble is that everything we eat nowadays is contaminated with something so the only way to avoid it is to stop eating ... no wait, that won't work!

Fresh Bass line caught of the back of my boat, then griddled on the beach & washed down with a bucket of wine

Fish Loving :suspect: that's illegal in some parts of the world :naughty:

Being serious there is very little fish that I won't eat  shell fish, smoked, fresh, RAW I'll eat most  personal favourite would either be fresh whitebait, fresh calamari or wild line caught cold smoked salmon :D

Don't really enjoy salmon much ... except occasionally wild salmon when it's available, difference between wild and farmed is incredible.

Your not wrong there, I'll only eat wild, farmed is tasteless by comparison

Love the fish, pretty much love any type of fish.

Used to get up to Billingsgate fish market with my dad when I was a nipper most weekends, we used to come away with all sorts for his fish stall. Best of all though was when we moved to Torbaydos, we used to go wreck sea fishing with a group of lads from my uncles pub, en route to the wrecks we use to stop off at some well known mackerel spots and catch a load of "bait". My uncle always took his barbecue, so on the way to the wreck we used to have freshly caught mackerel for breakfast....mmmmmmmm

Ooooo fresh caught barbecued mackerel ... luverly :)

Self barbecueing Mackerel, what do you do set the sea on fire and drag the fish through it.:D

The wife and I holidayed in Oban some 3 yrs ago and visited the fish restaraunt on the quayside (called Eusk??) - beautiful meal. It was so good we treated ourselves to a meal there nearly every night. Just 10 or 15 yds from the landing point, can't get much fresher than that!

Sushi, sushi and more sushi, I love any seafood as long as it is just out of the water. Saying a freshly caught barbecued mackerel and a nice glass of chilled Sancerre is hard to beat

Net caught Dolphin for me
No wait thats not a fish is it?
:p

I prefer Shell fish (not crab though) and Jellied eels to fish.
A nice bit of smoked haddock occasionally, or White bait (as a starter) C/W Head and tail of course.

 My name is Yves Geza and I'm a fishoholic!!

I was disgusted though when they told me Cobra sleeps with the fishes but that it had nothing to do with the Mafia! :naughty: [old Simpson's joke]

Hate fish of any description, well most anyway and never drink my wine from a bucket :)

hot smoked salmon and the biggest prawns I can find..........

mmmmmmmmmmm

not adverse to catching and cooking the odd crab or too either....

only thing i cannot do is mussels......make my Captain Pookahontas...

I love all fish, in the UK I tend to eat cod, bass or bream, and any shellfish.

I tend not to eat crab now as it is never fresh enough for me in the UK - I used to live in Vancouver Canada and we would catch them at the end of our dock (we had a crab basket), and then get them into the pot as fast as possible. Over there I was a fan of the local salmon, my fave was Coho, but they were all nice.

The most unnusual fish I have eaten has been African Tiger Fish (tasty), Jelly fish (similar to squid - chewy and no flavour of its own), sea urchin (can't really remember it, so would have to try it again!) and Norwegian dried fish (vile!)

Unfortunately I have gone off all fish at the moment, just hoping once I have the baby I start to like it again!

Amazing, only one fish hater ... I know so many people who never eat it "because of the bones" - I've never had sushi and somehow that doesn't appeal to me.

Depends how the fish were farmed. On its own, standard farmed salmon is a bit bland but flavours up nicely with a marinade as a result.

However, I have salmon that's been farmed for both a stillwater fishery (and also to be sold as organic) and it's a world away from the stuff that's reared in a big net in a loch. Mind, you have to catch the buggers first, which with my fly-fishing skill isn't always a guarantee of going home with fish, even if the lake is on an acre or so

I do a lot of trout fishing and the freshly stocked fish that have just come out of the farm and have pellet in their bellies are bland, but again they marinade nicely. Give them a few months though to turn cannibal and the taste improves dramatically. Fish that feed on natural have much lower fat level in the flash and more taste and overwintered rainbows (fish that lasted the full season) are truly scrumptious because the fat has properly turned to muscle.

Anyway, I digress......

I do like fish but I don't eat enough of a variety. Getting fed up of trout TBH because it's so readily available and not for any other reason. Had a fair bit of plaice, cod and pollack in recent years from boat trips. Surpirsingly, I've never tried bass - the bass we catch on features are usually schoolies and most of the anglers put them back. It's hard to catch big (7lb+) for the camera so just don't see them....

Had a bumper year for sole last year - lots of goujons with chilli dip as a result... mmmmmmmm :)

I tried pike many years ago but I fear some people in my profession wouldn't agree with it if they found out, despite the moans about there being too many jacks in our waters.

I must admit, if I find bones in fish, that often signals the end of the meal for me. That's why a good fishmonger is key.

I don't tend to count supermarkets in that category as, if they do have a properly trained fishmonger, they never seem to be on duty. I love sea bass but rarely buy it as I can never get it filleted properly.

Ah, now I forgot about shellfish as I almost class it as a different genre but mussels are my absolute favourite. Sadly, the missus won't go near them so the only time I can have them is when we're out so it tends to be my birthday treat.

But I also love prawns, lobster & crab

I'm a big shellfish fan. Prawns (preferably not tiger), muscles, crab etc. I love. Fish I'm more picky with. I like fish with white flesh so cod, haddock, sea bass, sol etc. but hate the more 'fishy' fish like trout, salmon etc. Bones in fish is the number one reason why I don't cook/eat it often. I don't enjoy cooking so the less fuss in the preparation stage the better and the last thing I want to do when I'm eating a meal is pick out the odd bone from the meat on my plate, or worse pull one out from between my teeth. Fiddly food just isn't worth it for me. Give me chicken any day :D

As a youngster (when fish were fish!) I regularly enjoyed really good sized roach and dace caught from the local river, but I've never tried pike.

I love it Gramps, not bothered if it swims or crawls along :D My pet hate is fish that is overdone. Usualy have fish at least twice a week if possible. Grilled Sprats for Sunday breakfast or smoked Kippers poached egg and spinach

Found some Basa fillets the other day, farmed fish from Vietnam so hardly eco friendly but very tasty barbecued and tried sea bass recently too, they were a it bland though.
I've eaten mussels three times in my life and been sick each time so now avoid them but I love scallops and prawns.

I tried sea urchin for the first time Friday night, it was really rather good ;) I also had raw squid for the first time during that meal, so an evening of first

Never tried other coarse fish - big roach these days are very prized so I reckon a lot of my mates would shoot me if I served it :)
