FISH EYE

I dont think any fish eye has or needs IS?
Samyang also goes under vivitar, rokinon, falcon.. and more

IS would be largely redundant. The old rule of 1/35mm-focal-length works with fisheyes too.

I can easily hand hold at 1/15 sec with my Canon 15mm. It's one of my last-resort low-light lens options.

e2a:

f/2.8, 1/30 sec at ISO 800, hand held. Sharp enough at 100%.

Agree, Stretch to £200 and get a Samyung fisheye, just got one the other week and its great and the price is a bonus.

one of my fav i got with it here - http://www.flickr.com/photos/tyler138/5600738069/

It's now added to my favourites too :D I really like that, as I've mentioned on your page. The flash brings him out of the scene really well, and the fisheye adds some nice feeling of being surrounded by the wood/forest :)

Tyler great shot. I had seen that pic the day you posted it. : )

Music man - is that the Canon 15mm lens that took that pic? Great night shot. Just what I need. out of my reach price wise.

Thanks to you all.

I am always interested in the samyang 8mm....

ANY focus sound (i mean the "BI BI" sound) when it is "focused"??

Hope you guys realise what I mean...

Yep. I do enjoy it. Prone to CA at the edges, but that's fairly easily sorted in PP.

If I were buying one now, I think it would be out of my reach too. I think I paid significantly less than £400 for mine three or four years ago.

No need to worry about focus though, I rarely change the settings on mine and is never out of focus.

Lenses that short barely need focusing.

For an 8mm lens on a crop body at f/4, the hyperfocal distance is 0.85m. Set the lens at that and everything from 0.425m to infinity is in acceptable focus.

I have just checked out the Samyang 8mm. Looks good. No auto focus but as said that once the focus is set then it won't need changing. At just over £200 I may consider one.

I see they produce a 14mm too.

Anyone around the Broxbourne area have one I can borrow tonight for a couple of shots at football????

I think that Samyang looks sick, has to go on the wish list. what are you supposed to do about protecting it? obviously it cant take a filter can it?

It does come with a cap when not in use but I guess it comes down to being extra careful not to damage it when using it. No filter use is available. Noticed that there are no electronics on it at all. so as far as focus, as mentioned already, is manual and metering is manual too so in auto mode will have no effect. Maybe trial and error at first. I might be wrong about this, so please correct me if so.

@Rod.F - I know. : )

You can get focus confirm chips which you can attach to the collar of the Samyang so that the autofocus system can report that it is in focus.

If you don't want to be messing about, I believe it is simpler to buy the Nikon mount version and an AF-confirm NikonF-to-EOS adapter.

Protect it? You wouldn't want to put anything on the front of it (UV/clear like with all your lenses). It has a good enough coating to take a clean if it becomes dirty. Never had any issue with it at all.

The manual metering and focus is really not difficult to fathom, even I managed

Here's a few shots from Berlin:

Great shots Charlatan.

I have bitten the bullet and ordered one. Samyang 8mm. New £200 inc. delivery.

Should be here by the end of the week so I can take it to the Drag Racing meet at Santa Pod at the end of May.

Thanks,

I look forward to seeing your shots when it arrives. Just remember not every subject lends itself to using a fisheye.

:)

Hi Kev

If you don't mind me asking where have you ordered at that price cheapest I can see is Digitaltoyshop but it is not clear that their advertised price of £212.49 includes postage and tax because at checkout it says £249 at £200 I would buy one.

Thanks
Pete

I'm considering investing in one of these also but will mostly be using it for video rather than photographs.
Keen to find out where you managed to source it for £200?

Cheers

I bought it from here. NOW £199
