First L lens...which one?

I would retort, sir, that 95% of the time indoor subjects are not lit by stage lighting ...

My turn :agree:

ISO 400, 1/50s @ f/4 is bright for a gig. Most of the ones I shoot at I'm looking at around 2 stops less light than that and f/4 would be out of the question.

I agree, but it's still pretty darned good for the 24-105 f4 IS, which is the point I was trying to make and a good example of what the lens can achieve. In an ideal world the 16-35 / 24-70 / 70-200 f2.8 trifecta is a winner but as it's the OP's 1st L lens, the 24-105 will, in my opinion, be the better 1st buy. I think that's why Canon invented it.

If low light isn't so much of a problem then the 24-105 is a great all rounder and even all weather lens. But in (real) low light f/4 is way off the mark, although ISO25600 on the 5DmkII might change that ;)

OK, thanks. Would both of these lenses be happy on a 50D and a 5D MkII?

They would both be very happy on those cameras, plus of course you could be using one while your wife uses the other to save d.i.v.o.r.c.e proceedings!!!

........just ordered a 24-105mm from Kerso! :woot: Picking it up next week
