You've got to be kidding me. Some (a lot) of rechargeable batteries require a first-time charge. The manual doesn't state whether it requires a long first charge or not so I asked on here. In the past with previous devices (even a camera), I've waited until it indicates that it's fully charged and used it only to find that I was supposed to give it a full 12-hour first time charge. Rather than ruin an expensive Canon battery I decided to post on a photography forum and ask for advice. Seriously, what don't you understand about that? When you plug the battery into the charger the light is initially red, once it's fully charged the light turn green.
The same applies to a lot of electronic devices, PSP's, Philips shavers etc.
There is the answer you seek so can we please move on.
I am curious to know that as your mother bought a 450D before you, has hers never had the battery charged and used?
The thread title clearly states, 'First charge on a 450D battery...' -- that sentence alone would be enough to realise what I'm getting at for the average human being.
I've got my answer and advice off helpful forum members and the battery seems to be holding up fine. Please let this thread lay to rest.
