First charge on 450D battery...

When you plug the battery into the charger the light is initially red, once it's fully charged the light turn green.
The same applies to a lot of electronic devices, PSP's, Philips shavers etc.

There is the answer you seek so can we please move on.

I am curious to know that as your mother bought a 450D before you, has hers never had the battery charged and used?
You've got to be kidding me. Some (a lot) of rechargeable batteries require a first-time charge. The manual doesn't state whether it requires a long first charge or not so I asked on here. In the past with previous devices (even a camera), I've waited until it indicates that it's fully charged and used it only to find that I was supposed to give it a full 12-hour first time charge. Rather than ruin an expensive Canon battery I decided to post on a photography forum and ask for advice. Seriously, what don't you understand about that?

The thread title clearly states, 'First charge on a 450D battery...' -- that sentence alone would be enough to realise what I'm getting at for the average human being.

I've got my answer and advice off helpful forum members and the battery seems to be holding up fine. Please let this thread lay to rest.

Keep on insulting members here like that and you won't any help in the future.
Would a mod please close this thread.

I'm only insulting the members that start the criticising by claiming that I cannot charge a battery. It's merely retaliating and defending myself. Oh and I already said in my previous post that we should lay this thread to rest.

Kryptix !!!.. You should charge 8-9 hours first time before use. I did the same. My local canon dealer said it. I hope it can answer your question. Thanx.

Dear God KingCupid, its been over a month now... I do hope it's now charged  I don't think I could cope with this thread continuing if it isn't :(

I'm not sure if you're aware, but if you don't want to read a thread, by not clicking the link that leads to the thread you can actually manage to avoid the thread completely, believe it or not. What exactly can't you cope with?

I asked a straight forward question and got insults chucked at me for asking a question about camera equiptment in the camera equiptment section. As I said previously, a lot of batteries do require a first-time charge to lengthen their life. I'm just trying to look after my gear.

Cheers, but as said below your post this thread is over a month old and I've already charged the battery for 5-hours. It seems to be holding up OK.

Sorry guys..I did not notice the thread time..sorry for my stupid reply.
