It seems that Bedfordshire police are running short of cash, so instead of using the cameras on the gantry's to enforce reduced speed limits,
which are frequent along that stretch, even at 3am, BTW, they may well turn them on, to stringently enforce the 70 mph limit at all times.

The other stupid suggestion was that they will have "sponsorship" on their cars and uniforms, easy jet was mentioned as it has it's home in Luton.

I don't know why but I just got this mental image ...

Some years back above the M4 a load of tickets were cancelled as the camera van parked on a bridge over the M4 where there was no drop kerb for them to access the pavement. They said they couldn't break the law to enforce the law:)

Common sense does prevail occasionally then ;)

Bottom line is don't effin well speed.

...............or don't get caught. It's not a difficult concept.

Not too hard to spot roadside cameras, just the hand held ones or vans could catch you out. Tend not to speed as much nowadays :)

I'm not aware anyone had the tickets revoked as a part of that but we did get the vans not allowed to park on the bridges unless they applied in advance to block the thoroughfare. I probably still have the photos.

It was interesting they claimed that accidents were down due to their actions, yet ignored the 9 months of roadworks with 50mph limits. They also claimed all sorts for the before numbers, minor shunts, jumpers from the bridges, yet only included accidents where people were taken to hospital for the after figures.

A303 motorists through the roadworks at amesbury had tickets cancelled due to incorrect signage.

I can just picture them with adverts for Durex.

Police Commissoner says they will be set to 71mph.

Sponsorship deals for police? Imagine the video of a police officer tasering a suspect with a big EDF logo on his helmut........

They never mentioned a figure in the interview that I heard, but did hint to the fact that it would be zero tolerance.

That'll work
:D

A drugs bust sponsored by GSK?
And I'm sure there is a whole host of others that would also work :D

.

Police sponsorship already exists.

It it still the case that car speedometers don't have to be accurate to within a 10% margin for error?

If so how can they prosecute you if you legally are not forced to know your exact speed?

speedos nearly all read down - so if it says 80mph indicated its more like 75 actual , so its unlikely that my speedo was incorrect will cut much ice as an excuse

on the sponsorship didnt peter james (crime novelist) sponsor a car for the sussex force a while ago ?

edit - yes he did , it was a non emergency car and it was in 2009 to promote his book 'dead tommorow' though i think he may have done it again since

I thought they had to give you 10% +2 which would make 79 for speedo inaccuracy. This was also mentioned by a police officer on one of those Police, Camera type programmes the other day on telly.

Thats the ACPO guideline, but its not mandatory they can nick you for being 1mph over if they want

Maybe so, but I've never seen a police car or uniform with "sponsorship" motif
which is exactly what the PCC is advocating.
They'll all have football shirts over their stab vests
with "Spec-savers" written on them.
Its a shame the "Jam sandwich" police car livery no longer exists, or they could have been sponsored by Robinson's :D

Agreed - after spending a couple of hours in a speed van watching the process.....very low tech it is too! the limit on the road as you say was 70 plus 10% plus 2 so 79mph in a 70 but as the guy said to us he gets his locations and allowances, but they can change these as and when the feel they want to or remove them at will. Thus the fixed 71mph - these gantry cams can be set by a person in a control room at will....there is nothing to say they have to give you an allowance over the posted limit...

Proves my point really its a complete and utter farse, who is gonna take that seriously?
Someone chases me down the road in that, I'm making a run for it!

Key stone cops ride again

I have, cars, wildlife display trailer and other vehicles, plenty times up here.

Are they not 'sponsored' by the good people they serve through council tax payments?
Can I get my logo on a police car?

to be fair more recently hes just donated cash to the value of a car with each book launch ... this year its being spent on crime prevention

http://www.itv.com/news/meridian/up...ction-author-donates-15-000-to-sussex-police/

that said i am vague uneasy about the concept as although its unlikely with PJ who is a good bloke (I've met him) it does raise the spectre of celebrity influence on the police of the sort common in the states

But they are for a specific job surely?
They are talking about bobbies on the beat, with motif's on their uniform and crime / pursuit cars with sponsorship signs,
as I said keystone cops ride again.

I'm looking forward to ferrari sponsoring a pursuit car in kind (ditto any other performance marque)

Can you imagine the uproar from the polictically correct brigade if a coloured officer was driving one though ;)
