and no doubt if you contact said local rag, they'd be more than happy to sell you a print or 3 of your son - and any other child at that event. :bang: I wonder if they'd demand absolute, cast-iron proof that you are the boy's father and have positively no ulterior motives. After all you might want to put the pic on the mantlepiece where it could be seen by anybody visiting your house. :shrug:

The world or this country at least, has gone SO mad.

I am definitely becoming a very grumpy old woman.
 
I have got to laugh that people are blaming this sort of public reaction on "the media" yet this story causing your reaction was reported/published by that very same media :| Ironic or what?

Criminal Justice & Public Order Act 1994

This defines a criminal offence of intentional harassment, which covers all forms of harassment, including sexual. A person is guilty of an offence if, with intent to cause a person harassment, alarm or distress, s/he:-

uses threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, or disorderly behaviour; or

displays any writing, sign or other visible representation which is threatening, abusive or insulting, thereby causing that or another person harassment, alarm or distress.

I think that covers it quite nicely and I'd have been tempted to photograph her and call the Police.

The offence above is known as a section 5. It's similar to a Breach of the Peace except that a BOP is a common law offence which doesn't have such a strict set of points to prove. Also a police officer can arrest to prevent a breach of 'the queens' peace, before its actually happened. The big difference though, is that a person taken before a court for a BOP is bound over to keep the peace. Whereas a sect 5 is dealt with criminally.
Also, with a sect 5 the offender has to have been previously warned about their behaviour before they can be arrested.

this is actually not the case if you have seen a particular episode of QI....the monarchy had no powers of laws at this stage of our democracy :)
 
What an absolute joke. Things like this make you even more conscience of taking photos where there are people :(

I always understood that the reason that lesbianism wasn't outlawed along with homosexuality was that Queen Victoria's aids were too embarrassed to discuss the issue with her. She had previous for being 'not amused'.

I think its a great story I have no idea what "QI" is. As this particular friend is highly educated far beyond us mere mortals I tend to believe her, even if it is always said, and I quote from my previous post, "with a wry smile"

A couple of minutes with google will show that she's quite wrong.

The prohobition on male but not female homosexual acts is down to the Judeo-Christian-Islamic religion and its influence.

i hope to be getting a canon 30D in the next few months (using a canon a1 at the moment) it kinda puts me off the idea.
i go down the woods to photograph deer...fox...sparrow hawks...and the like.
(but the why is he sculking around the woods with a camera...)
get my point...mud sticks.
i realy fancy the 30D too.

its scary reading all this stuff. My old dad sends me emails about all the s~#* photogs have to put up with over there, along with all the other s~#* you all have to put up with on a daily basis.
Where did all this hysteria come from about taking shots in public? Is there some sort of virus going around that makes people allergic to cameras in public places?

It's a meme. Note that "common sense" is also, and no basis for comments on e.g scientific matters.
