Father-of-three branded a 'pervert' - for photographing his own children in park

Its unlikely that anyone would question me, being a woman and all

Ah, that the secret is it? Right fella's, borrow your other half's best sunday frock and a mop head and you won't get bothered... :D

utterly, utterly ridiculous. What in the blazes is wrong with these people?

I find it particularly perplexing that he was actually able to prove that he'd only been taking photos of his own kids and the women were STILL retarded enough to keep on at him. Not that he should have had to prove it of course!

I went to a summer fair a couple of weeks ago were my niece was dancing as part of the show. Even though here dad, gran, grandad, and my wife were with me. I chose to leave my camera in my bag and let my wife take photos of here at the end in here costume. I missed out on some good photos. But it is the way things are today.

:bang: these stories really are extremely frustrating. We live in an insane society where taking pictures is frowned upon for fear we might be paedophiles - or more accuratley, men that takes pictures might be. It does seem to be the case that men are much less tolerated than women and certainly I have never been stopped from taking pictures of my kids even when other kids are in shot. Whoever that stupid retarded woman is, she wants to be reminded that this is still a free country, despite the best governmental attempts to control every aspect of our lives and that if a man wants to photograph his kids having a great time and enjoying themselves, then he should be allowed to do that without fear of some hypersensitive brainless moron attacking him for it!

One response to the woman who accused the man of being a pervert...

"How do I know these are your children? For all I know, you could be one of those psycho women that goes around stealing kids"

;)

One answer might have been if the police had taken action against the people who called him a pervert in public, thats behaviour lightly to cause a breach of the peace at least, and could have led to something much more serious. If a few of these idioys got nicked maybe people would be less lightly to go around name calling. Wayne

I do quite a bit of freelance work for the Dundee Courier, covering festivals, public events etc.

Because of all this nonsense what I do now is if I see a shot. First look for the parents, speak to them, give them a business card and by the time that is done 9 times out of 10 the shot is gone. Ocasionally I'll shoot first then ask later because of the above, but always allow them to see photos first.

But I've never had a parent refuse me taking photos, they're only too happy to get their kids in the paper.

I think we should be looking at ways in which we can defend ourselves against these self righteous, narrow minded people, with the minimum of fuss.

I would suggest a business type card with contact details, or photographic club/society membership card. backed up with photo ID, ie driving license.

I know its a lot of hastle but unfortunately becoming neccesary in this day and age.

Anyone got any other ideas??

Its ridiculous I always photographed and videoed our 3 children when they were in school plays, games days, and cherish the memories,

we should all wear one these, and on the back in big letters "I'm a photographer, not a paedophile" to shove in their face

When my daughter was young i took hundreds if not thousands of photos of her in the park, beach, funfairs etc, i now look back on theses with my daughter and have a good chuckle, thank god there was no stigma attached to photographing your own kids then.

good old daily mail

i like this bit:
'One even accused him of photographing youngsters to put the pictures on the internet.'
placed under one of his pictures that has been put on the internet

it is crazy, but c'mon, its the Daily Mail.. This is what they do. In fact I wouldnt be at all suprised if its not made up especially to get TPF members to start yet another 'this country is going to the dogs' thread.

Wear a t-shirt with "I'm a photographer, not a paedophile" on it?

Good idea help to get the point across. Course the answer would be "you're just a paed in disguise"

I think the time has come for all togs to stand proud and erect in their local park and shoot away...

Perhaps we should organise the 1st Annual Park photography meet/flashmob.

I think that would actually be a good idea. We need to have some sort of meet / flashmob / protest.

That's why I got my "I'm a photographer, not a terrorist" t-shirt. I did toy with the idea of using the paedophile slogan instead, but it would probably have a negative effect. Too many thick people can't read, but would recognise the word 'paedophile' from the Sun, and probably think it was some police tagging exercise.

Normally I would agree with you there, and I've already said so. But with the quotes of the women, I'm not sure how this story could be whipped up into more of a hysteria inducing frenzy than it is.

fair point, but its not uncommon for the DM to actually make these stories up completely.
it wouldnt surprise me if it had happened, though. there are some strange people about who have a un balanced paranoid view that every bloke with a camera is a p***... Hmm now i wonder which newspaper have them that idea in the first place?

Depends on the level of intelligence of the reader.

The Sun for the knuckle dragers
The Mail for the knuckle draggers with an A-Level :D

I hate most tabloids with a passion now. The Sun for just making stuff up, twisting words to appeal to the retarded of society.
The Mail for "Lost a fiver? An immigrant paedophile probably stole it. He's probably your neighbour too"

Got a pic of your T-shirt. Might have to get one myself.

Wheres Matty, I think a group buy is in order!!

I'm a photographer, not a terrorist, pervert, or anything else you might be thinking!

I'd go for that idea.

I'm sorry - has no-one commented he's using a Nikon. Filthy pervert :D

What about "I've got a camera and you're paranoid, it's going to end badly..."

thats cos everone thinks of canon as a P&S so it gets ignored:p

I think I've said this before. I was staying with friends and their youngest (11) plays sunday football. As I'm a keen sports photographer I went along with my kit to take some pictures.

Cue a couple of the Mums insisting I couldn't because of data protection, I had to ask everyones permission etc and then getting quite insistent and getting the coach onto me, getting other mums to surround me. One was shouting out loud "lets get this pervert out of here".

All quite worrying and embarrassing for my friend, so for her sake I put the camera away.

The ridiculous thing is that the DPA says nothing about photography in this respect [as pointed out here], it is one of those urban myths perpetuated by schools and councils to stop parents photographing/videoing school events and the moronic minority screaming. As long as the pictures are for personal use, especially in a public place like a football pitch, the DPA doesn't apply as far as I can make out! :bonk:

It's sad but I now carry a copy of the Photographers rights printout with me, along with a photocopy of my extended CRB check.

as every day goes by, the more the Brass Eye p*** Documentary makes me laugh

I'm glad I have no interest in photographing children (hideous things ;) )

But as has been said, called a pervert? Slander. Touch me? Assault. Call the police? Please go right ahead.

I know it's easier said than done, but if people don't stand up for themselves when challenged, the idiots win.

LOL at the pic and the group! (I've joined :D)

LOL at the pic and the group! (I've joined :D)

i'm a member of the group too, but a few months back someone i knew on FB wanted me to do a shoot for the Dail Mail (its all up in the air at the moment), but i thought if he saw i was a member of that group it might not be too good for my chances LOL
but then i realised that if i left the group it would say on his feed
'gary parravani has just left the group the daily mail really are a bunch of flipping twits'*

* (obvisouly i changed the name of the group to make it a bit more family friendly :) )

Get rid of the Canon in the background and I'll take one :p

And get rid of the 'Official Forum Member' bit it's pompous, but add pxl8s' "I've got a camera and you're paranoid, it's going to end badly..." on the back :)

I was at the school sportsday yesterday... checked with the headmaster that its ok to take pix of my boy.. sure he said... just don't shoot this one girl (and pointed her out).. and try to get only your kid in the shots.
No problem I said... Gets to the field.. everyone is in a line with cameras and camcorders.. everyone! A few parents, even though they had cameras, asked me to take photos of thier kids too :)

I wonder what those women would have to say about me, A scout leader thats into photography?

I guess its only a matter of time until the News of the World or some such tabloid paper call for me to be thrown in jail.........

The World has gon nuts, forget emigrating, to get away from this ridiculous PC brigade thing I think the only option is to move to Mars or some such planet. Plus, think of the photos you could take!!
