I'd have asked the policeman to take her details and those of the witnesses so I could sue for slander. Call me a pervert? I'll see you in court.

I *was* going to insert some comment about it being blown out of proportion by the Daily Mail (as I find is the norm these days).

However, I don't think I can. Seems it can't be exaggerated at all, for what it is. The stupidity and mindset of some people in this country is ridiculous.

"You could be taking pictures of any child to put on the internet"....Errr, yeah, he could...but theyre fully clothed children, if they were gonna be used for *that* purpose, then an Argos catalogue would be just fine wouldn't it? You halfwitted retard. Go back to your 20 mayfair superkings, your tramp stamp, arse winged thong, your copy of heat and your pint of wife beater.

In Jessops, we had a gentleman come in to print some photos off.
Several of the photos were of his family in a villa in florida or somewhere similar.

He had 2 daughters. One was 7 ish, the other 9 ish. There were several photos of the children naked, playing gameboy, watching TV, playing with barbies - harmless, innocent photos, and there was obviously no ill-intention to them whatsoever.
My colleagues and I felt very uncomfortable looking through the photos (we have to, to check for anything illegal. you know what i mean) and we said this to the gentleman, especially considering the age of his children. We get loads of pictures of naked babies, since naked babies aren't deemed inappropriate. But naked 9 year olds are.

This has little or no relevance to the OP, but its a similar theme. thought someone might find it interesting, considering how the lady in the article said he was a pervert, despite the fact they were his own kids.
 
I got a set of photos of Chinese children bounced off a Photography thread within another web site. All the children were with their parents and 8,000 miles from where the pictures were posted. Almost certainly none of them would have had access to the web site. There's small minded people everywhere - and some claim to be photographers.
 
Oh noes.. I'm a pervert aparantly.. I took some photos of my friends kids a while ago, in a park and everything!

Firkin idiots some people! I'd be doing the same as Steep!

And, as for the "it'd never have happened if it was canon" No, it wouldn't, the canon would've still been hunting for focus as they got off the slide ;) :lol: :D

That's really depressing.

I took my DSLR out to my local park for the first time a couple of weeks ago and was photographing the park, flowers etc. and 2 young girls (8 or 9 I imagine) called to me and asked me to take some photos of them with their dogs - they just wanted to pose for a camera! I was a bit concerned and asked their mum if it was OK, she said yes so I took some photos and asked for her e-mail address - I sent her the photos the following day and she replied to say thank you very much, the girls loved them. So common sense and pleasantness does still occur from time to time!

It seems that's happening more and more often. At least in the UK.
Here, people look at you as if you were a Satan's offspring, born and bred, even if you're trying to take a show of a building they're standing in front of and they won't move an inch to find out whether their assumption is correct or not.

I completely agree. I heard on the radio a few weeks ago that adults are scared to approach children or talk to them simply because doing so may brand them as potential paedophiles by other people. Paranoia is crippling this country.
 
I dare say it won't be long before council's ban photography in parks.

I'm interested to know just how many paedophiles have been caught as a result of submitting photo's to the likes of Jessop's for printing.

Sadly the concerns of parents are as much about the child being snatched rather than whether the child is fully clothed or not. Sign of the times...

I get the feeling its just men, i was at the local park taking abstracts one evening of the play equipment, and nobody stoped me or questioned me and i didnt have any children with me. I was carful to make sure i was only taking pics of the equipment the children weren't on but im not sure my presence would have been as well tolerated if i was a man.
 
This is a favourite topic at work. A colleague was talking to her youngest who was asking why there were no videos or photograhs of her in the school plays & nativities, like they had of her older brother. Of course she couldn't answer. I fully understand the logic behind this thinking, but I'm also aware that there are a couple of generations (at least) growing up with no photographic memory of their childhood. (Not to mention all those naff christmas plays that deserve a place on 'you've been framed'!)

Jeeze I have pictures of both mine nekid, playing on the beach or in the garden. both now well grown,
and the pictures are great for embarrassing them in front of their boy / girl friends at family gathering :D

This is 'Togism' but tbh it's worse than that I think it's anything to to do with blokes by themselves anywhere near kids :shrug: a girl at work was telling me about a friend of hers who complained to the staff of a toy shop about some bloke in there by himself :cuckoo:
 
I`m 43, my mam used to wheel out embarassing photos of me as a youngster to show my wife, she now shows them to my daughter...............:lol:

I dont like taking my camera to the park when my little lad is playing...i think everyone is looking at me thinking im a perv..

It's my boy's sports day tomorrow and i have had to sign a contract thing saying i wont take pictures of anyone other than my lad
 
I think the time has come for all togs to stand proud and erect in their local park and shoot away...

Hmm... wonder how long before that comment gets misinterpreted (and we question the intelligence of the parents) ;)

Thats what I thought the answer would be! My mate was going to take a picture of his 2 year old daughter in the swimming pool on her first holiday with his camera phone the other day but didn't dare because he thought he may have been accused by other parents! as was mentioned by Cobra no fun photos will be able to be looked back on or put up on walls at kids 21st birthday parties at this rate as no one will have any they will literally be memories :bang:
 
Its unlikely that anyone would question me, being a woman and all, but I will relish the day I get challenged, Ill get arrested for Breach of the Peace :D

Probably another social bum thinking that there could be some money at the end of it.........

I have 2 girls 10 & 12 and when I used to go to the park with my old point and shoot I never had a problem but with my DSLR I do get some funny looks sometimes.. although I have not yet been approached.

I think I need to have a sign strapped to me saying "I AM NOT WEIRD. I AM NOT A PERVERT. I ONLY WANT MEMORIES OF MY CHILDREN ENJOYING THEMSELVES. IF YOU DONT LIKE IT F***OFF AND TAKE YOUR KIDS ELSEWHERE!!!"

I know I would be in the wrong then for swearing in a public place. Until there is a law stopping me taking photos of my kids in a public place then I will stand and argue (for hours if needed) until they understand my intentions. I am so patriotic about being English but I'm beginning to wonder why.

I hate the way this country is going at the moment and I have so many friends/colleagues that have emigrated I am seriously thinking about joining them.

My old primary school is celebrating its 40th soon, and I've been asked to send in any photos I might have. I'm considering first sending a reply that will enquire about their current policy re: photography.

Take a look at some oldish school and playground shots sometime, and see the advantage of using a TLR with its lens at waist level or lower.

But in all seriousness, its stupid that we are coming to this. Im pretty shy as is and I was photographing a village fair and I felt odd taking pictures of kids, people, families and so on.

OK so how about we all wear bright fluorescent bibs / waist coats with or without "press" or something similar printed across the back?
So we can't be accused of "skulking around"
I do in the pursuit of my proffesion, have cause to go into the "odd" sensitive area from time to time,
I am not known by most of the work force but a bright jacket seems to get me around unchallanged 99% of the time.
