Fast boiling kettles

Please can anyone tell me what is classed as a "Fast boiling kettle" is it just by the wattage eg 3000w for the kettle?
Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced fast boiling kettle.

They work 'faster' by only boiling the water as it passes through the heating element on the way to the spout I think.

It actually has a main reservoir and small heating tank (cupfull, but the quantity heated is user variable by a small amount).

I had one of those. Note that they call it a "hot water dispenser" which is OK for coffee. I did not think it made good tea because the water was not boiling.
 
Our fast boil kettle doesn't have an element that sits in the water like a "normal kettle", the bottom of the kettle is a flat disc - I presume the element is under this and potentially in contact with it so you have a larger surface area for boiling the water...

Another thing we noticed, apart from the fact they are much quicker to boil the water, they are noisier - not a problem now, but was a bit of a surprise how noisier it was initially....

But keep the receipt.

Both my Cuisinart devices (this kettle and a toaster) failed within a couple of years. Still well under the 5 year warranty but I'd lost the receipts :( Replaced them both with the same models as I couldn't find anything else I liked as much for the money.
 
For people with more money than sense - and although I may not have much sense, I would have to have a whole lot more money before I'd spend that sort of money on a kettle!
 
How long does a 'fast boiling kettle' take to bring 1 litre of water to the boil, compared with a cheap kettle from a supermarket? I'm just curious...............

If anyone's going to have a go, please include a microwave in the equasion, seeing as heating water is "what they do" :-)
