I thought I'd mention it on here as it may save others the stress. If you have your mobile number logged on your Facebook account I'd recommend you remove it unless you want to have text code issues if you need to do a security check in the future.

Having recently been suspended from Facebook because I'd allegedly posted a photo that did met their rules I've had my account suspended with permanent disabled in 30 days unless I lodged a review appeal. Its very likely the cause is that I've either been hacked or the scammers I had a falling out with a few days before decided to maliciously report a post of mine. The problem is for the last 7 days I've been trying to appeal but could get passed the SMS text code security check part as although Facebook sent me the text an error message appeared to say the text couldn't be sent. This meant the code box never appeared to enter the code I'd been sent. The worst is after trying to send it a few times it locks you out for 24 hours before you can try again (say you try after 23 hrs you then have to wait another 24 hrs before you can try again so 47hrs wait). From several hours of search the web it seems to be a common issue faced by many people. Many have lost access permanently to Facebook due to being hacked and not being able to submit an appeal due to this text code issue.

I've managed to finally work out how to get around the text code issue by removing my mobile phone number (which was a main to get to anyway), and I've now submitted the review appeal. Hopefully the appeal will be successful as I've lost access to my personal Facebook account, Facebook photography page, instagram account and Facebook messenger which its a pain with many years tied up in all of it. Its surprising how much anxiety it causes when you work out how much you rely on Facebook programs to keep in touch with some people or think about the years you've put into a Facebook page or instagram.

What PITA.....

I think it was on R4 You & Yours (earlier this week?) where something like you are describing was discussed and sadly it took the intervention of a reporter to get involved to make things happen.

IIRC it was about accounts that had been hacked and the user owners hit a brick wall to get control back! The reporter, through her action/involvement had it fixed in hours!!!

I wonder if you email 'you & yours' they will confirm my recall and somehow point you in a new direction.

Hope you can get it resolved ASAP.

Hopefully now I've submitted the appeal it will be looked at. It seems everyone get stuck at the phone security check point as Facebook sends you a text code but says they can't send you a text as there's an error so you've got the code but no way of entering it. It seems the only way to sort it is to remove your phone number from your account. Sadly Facebook support is pretty much none existent, especially when you can't log in.

I logged in, first time for months, replied with apologies to those friends who'd left birthday messages on my FB birthday, then eventually tracked down the bit where I could remove the phone number. Of course they said that as result I might lose access to my account if there was a problem, and I then chickened out! But, TBF I rather suspected to find a message saying, you've been dumped for inactivity!

I dropped Facebook a year ago and haven't missed it for a minute, I wouldn't bother with appeals, just let Facebook delete your account and be done with it. They asked me for a phone number once, they also asked for my date of birth, I'm surprised they didn't ask my shoe size or the last time I went to the toilet; needless to say they didn't get any of the information, The company is invasive, pervasive and insidious and I wouldn't trust it as far as I could throw Mark Zuckerberg. By making it difficult to log in, Facebook have done you an immense favour, take it and go with it, you will look back only with relief.

Well it’s official, my facebook and instagram have been both permanently deleted as facebooks self imposed time limit has passed. Facebook never got around to reviewing my account due to their ‘lack of resources caused by Covid’ within their self imposed time limit so my accounts get permanently deleted. Sounds completely fair doesn’t it.

As far as I can see it’s potentially a lifetime ban yet I’m still unsure what I supposedly posted that could have caused the issue. Whether I was hacked or maliciously report I will probably never know. Oh well Meta free future for me. Not exactly a bad thing after being treated like this.
