Faceberk Down.

I am pleased to say I left Facebook many months ago and the only problem is that other people can't get hold of me anymore, of course that's their problem not mine, I do actually have a phone.

I too would like to drop Whatsapp in favour of Signal or Telegraph, it'll come, it's just going to take a little time then Zuckerberg can go frig himself silly for all I care.

No idea if there is any connection but WhatsApp has been sneaking in spammy little messages trumpeting it’s encryption in the last few days so that’s a big change they’ve made and of course we know they’ve been trying to integrate all three apps into one monster so … maybe they over-reached :).

I do hope so, I'd like to see the whole house of cards come tumbling down.

I cant wait for facebook to come back on... I love seeing poeple crying and complaining about a free service :)

PS Facebook ect.. YOu get out of it what you put in.. I get lots out of it.. enjoy it...

But surely she won’t be relying on just that and has one the many alternatives installed eg Signal:
Well she has relied on it for years without issue, so hasn't required any of the alternatives so far.
I'm sure it will be back before to long, and if not then will look at alternatives.
In the meantime she can use the good old phone....
We will look at signal though, so thanks, I wasn't aware of it.

Just heard a fire engine in town ,anyone know where the fire is

Just seen this, originally from Twitter:

Was just on phone with someone who works for FB who described employees unable to enter buildings this morning to begin to evaluate extent of outage because their badges weren’t working to access doors.

So FB is as stupid as many of its users and is using its own product to service its product and has vanished up its own fundament :).

On the plus side I have had more likes on Flickr tonight than for a couple of years

Thoughts and prayers going out to Mark Zuckerberg tonight.
God knows how many Millions £££ he's losing through farmed info.
Stay strong Mark.

:D

Please educate me. What are these for?
More or less the same sort of thing as WhatsApp with some advantages like you can use Signal on tablets & desktops as well as phones and is open source. So you can do messages (singly or with a group, , video calls and so on.

Thanks, but I don't know what WhatsApp is so I'm none the wiser.

Apart from the video bit, are they better than e-mail?

What's the benefit of it being open sourced?

As its all gone quiet on here I assume its back ...
Oh look ...

Starting to come back online but it’ll take a long time according to NYT, who say:

Facebook employees also were cut off from email, internal communication tools, and physical access to building sites because of the outage.

You OK Hun?
:D

Mine is full of Ghits & Siggles The local hubs are where the really interesting things take place

When I said 'sadder than mine' I really mean they would have to be rock bottom - Mine is pretty pretty pathetic :ROFLMAO: Between my sisters and their fem posses posting not-at-all clearly obvious digs at some bitch in work who's a drama llama, some of my old 'mates' [guys I just knew from my old estate] obsessing/drooling/posting shirtless pics of their football icons and slagging off fans of other teams like it's some kind of manly war, old men like me Da and his pub mates smack talking politicians and declaring how much better they'd run the country, the people I know in person who are extreme anti-vax/mask 'covid is a lie' and all that s***e, yet I see them in town donning masks every other day! etc ... I stick to posting my s***ty music and photos like I still think that's what FB was designed for ... I should just give up on that idea some decade :D

Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram are back up and running again.

Personally, unlike most of you here, I like them and find them extremely good for communication with many friends and acquaintances with shared interests. I have created and Admin a couple of FB Groups, one currently has over 8,000 members. It's easy to block adverts (I don't see any) and also easy to avoid the political and ranting stuff.

The one I don't like and don't use is t***ter.

I’m actually pleased that Facebook/WhatsApp/Instagram are down, as I hope it encourages people to either stop using Facebook or find an alternative.
I think Facebook is far too powerful and actually does great harm to society. The recent revelations of whistleblower Frances Haugen demonstrate that.
Have to agree with you there.

Also the way big companies say, " get in touch with us via our faceberk page". You would think those big companies would implement their own messaging system, without relying on the likes of faceberk or twooter.

Perhaps because you’re not the customer any more. You’re simply a “resource” to be managed for profit. The customer is someone else now — and usually someone without your best interests at heart. . . .

Who is the customer? Not you, whose life is reduced to someone else’s salable, searchable, investigable data. The customer is everyone who wishes to own a piece of your life.

I stumbled upon the above. People keep putting all their private info into faceberk, and daily too. Surely TP is not like that, is it?

Just watching the news this morning, and is reported that Faceberk lost One Hundred thousand pounds per minute, while Mark Zuckerberg lost 4 Billion pounds.
How the hell does faceberk generate that much money? They must have some serious info on masses of people, if it can generate that much money.

.... I don't know what you know or don't know do I. Some people reading this thread may not have known they were all the same organisation.

Advertising.

.... Big companies, medium sized companies, small companies, one-man businesses, all use Facebook/Instagram to both promote their businesses, communicate with customers and build good relationships, often giving help and technical support via their Facebook pages. Other customers can also join in and help. Many company websites rely on email to communicate but it is often slow and subject to how on the ball their webmasters are.

As photographers some of you guys should check out the FB Groups specialising in all aspects of photography. Camera and related gear have pages too of course. They are generally more responsive, vibrant and useful when compared with Talk Photography forums.

My daughter Sky has built up, and continues to build, her very successful business and livelihood by using Instagram and that's without ever paying Instagram for adverts.

If you build a business on a social media platform, you have to rely on them always honouring your pages. They could take them off you at anytime, if they wish.

Because she’s not the customer, she”s the product! How many times does it have to be said?

Some people just can't see it, most who use social media really do think they are customers.

It’s not the adverts on FB that they make their money from its selling your data to other companies that’s profitable.

They mine your contacts and even if you block them on that they still get them because they mine your contact’s contacts :(.

i hardly use FB but each time I go there they have suggestions of ”people you may know” and more often than not they are correct, though I don’t take up their suggestions.

FB has 3.5 billion users. For many (most?) people FB = Internet :(.
