That will explain why my missus took a wobbler before. She muttered something about not being able to get on.

Millions of people will be having withdrawal symptoms, what will they do? I suppose they could what they did before faceberk, and talk to family members around the meal table. Now that would be nice. :)

End of the world as we know it ,,, volcanoes exploding ,earthquakes, pestilence , plague and famine ..OMG might have to talk to the wife tonight

I find Facebook Marketplace very handy - have used it to buy and sell loads of stuff locally.

Rarely use it these days but just checked and it is indeed down - no loss here

We're bad enough when TP goes down, so it's not really any different....

My wife uses WhatsApp to talk to my daughter in Portugal so it is a bit of a pain....

Missus still jabbing her finger on her phone trying to refresh faceberk, while muttering obscenities. Surely while millions of people keep refreshing, I thought that would also cause an overloading problem.

Faceberk will have to hurry up and get things sorted, otherwise people will have already eaten their evening meal. I mean millions won't be able to take a photo of themselves eating their dinner.

Well at least it's a day without a ban for calling some fool a fool :)

I'm a touch miffed as I use whatsapp to chat to my sister since I get naff all mobile signal in my house, but aside from that... so far I've learned all kinds of stuff that could help me in a pub quiz so I'm fairly happy.

I’m actually pleased that Facebook/WhatsApp/Instagram are down, as I hope it encourages people to either stop using Facebook or find an alternative.
I think Facebook is far too powerful and actually does great harm to society. The recent revelations of whistleblower Frances Haugen demonstrate that.

I've never had a Facebook or Twitter account, or seen any reason to get one. Neither has my wife. I do use WhatsApp which is also down at the moment, which is a minor nuisance, but I have Signal as an alternative.

But surely she won’t be relying on just that and has one the many alternatives installed eg Signal:

Good riddance - I hope it's permanent.

I quoted you,Trevor because I'm of the same mind and set out below why. Mark Zuckerberg & Co Facebook-WhatsApp-Instagram- and have done more damage to societies and democracies than the likes of Trump. He's got more power than any dictator ever had. He not only enabled Trump to become President but he also helped dictators around the world. Those inciting riots in India and genocide in Myanmar have used WhatsApp and Facebook to viciously oppress opponents. It's acknowledged and proven how dictators use Facebook. He is in complete control and therefore has to take responsibility for the fall out. He has no social conscience and profit is his only motivator..that and the number of followers which is the same thing. More followers (if that's the correct term) more companies advertise equals more profit. After an internal investigation he knew about the devastating effects WhatsApp was having on teenage girls re 'image' etc causing documented mental welfare problems, depression and even suicides etc but he overruled the top management team who wanted to change the algorithms. Zuckerberg was afraid of losing followers. His platforms are host to fake news, hate speech and enabled the likes of Putin to interfere with elections so he's a threat to democracy too.

We now see the once-respected Nick Clegg coming out trying to defend the indefensible. Personally, I think this whistleblower will give so much information that the US authorities will act this time but having said that I do wonder when you think that at the last Congressional hearings..I watched them each day... I saw one senator start of by saying that Facebook was 'pretty extraordinary' He was awe-struck by its success and dominance. I also vividly recall another asking MZ how he made money. Zuckerberg leaned forward to the microphone and almost with a roll of the eyes said "Advertising, Senator " They hadn't a clue. White middle-aged men who had no concept of what internet/ social media was about. Also, US culture treats success as the be all and end all. I think they say that anyone can become President no matter one's background..sort of.

Re.the whistleblower, from the BBC article link published 17 hours ago.. "In the interview, on CBS's 60 Minutes programme, Ms Haugen said she had left Facebook earlier this year after becoming exasperated with the company. Before departing, she copied a series of internal memos and documents.

Me too, but it’s been a struggle to get family to sign up for it because “everyone“ is on WhatsApp … well, not tonight eh?

Strike while the iron is hot:

It’s true about Facebook but WhatsApp and the other message apps have been widely used by opponents of those dictators too. People are responsible for all too by blindly accepting the one (or a few) app :( when there is lots of choice, not to mention email.

You lot have sadder FB contacts than I do it seems :ROFLMAO:
You OK Hun?
:D

Mine is full of Ghits & Siggles The local hubs are where the really interesting things take place

OMG!!!!

How is anyone going to find any fuel to top up their tank with?

No idea if there is any connection but WhatsApp has been sneaking in spammy little messages trumpeting it’s encryption in the last few days so that’s a big change they’ve made and of course we know they’ve been trying to integrate all three apps into one monster so … maybe they over-reached :).

I think Cobra meant to give a thread ban and hit the wrong button. ;)
