F1 season 2016

How ironic for seb to get a penalty for moving under braking and be beaten by Max

Stewards decision (please note car 3 is daniels not max) I bet seb had a few F's at that decision but then he did have a few at Charlie and the stewards, maybe revenge is sweet

"The telemetry and video evidence shows that the driver of car 5 (Vettel) did change direction under braking.

"Article 27.5 and the race director's notes have essentially three criteria that determine a breach; driving in a manner potentially dangerous, an abnormal change of direction and another driver having to take evasive action.

"The video footage, including the close circuit footage, the broadcast vision, both drivers' on board cameras plus the telemetry show that there was an abnormal change of direction by car 5 and this was considered to be potentially dangerous in view of the proximity of the wheels of each car.

"The video evidence clearly shows that car 3 (Verstappen) had to take evasive action as a result.

"Accordingly as all three criteria have been met, the driver of car 5 is guilty of a breach of article 27.5."

Vettel was also given two penalty points.

Charlie to the Ferrari team - Tell Seb he's a 10 second penalty and is demoted ot 5th and if he doesn't like it he can F*** off.

I suspect Vettel's got some further pain coming his way. 4 times he swore about the race officials, twice after the finishing line.

Good driving by hamilton for the first stint. Apparently he badly flatspotted his tyres causing severe vibration which was on the limit for the suspension

It will be interesting to see if this rumour from Auto bild motorsport is true that Ross brawn has signed with Liberty to head F1
I wonder if thats alongside Bernie or without Bernie

He doesn't like to work with others, that's why he left mercedes

There is something about a buyout that prevents liberty getting rid of top staff for 30 months and the deal is not ratified for another 6 months
Which is what Bernie said "they want me to stop on for 3 years" Bernie can always leave of course if he cant get his own way

The only thing I find odd here is the fact you never hear all the radio messages and the messages you do hear are nearly always after a time lag
So how come we heard this one which was disgraceful and dragged F1 into the gutter (or did it, maybe someone thought it would improve the show )

You overlooked that Vettel was given a time penalty. So when you said "I don't think that they're allowed to penalise Mercedes or Ferrari drivers.", you were actually wrong weren't you?
The original statement was based on comments posted about the expletives towards the race director which would be an issue for the FIA (who haven't seen fit to punish the driver). The time penalty is issued by independant stewards (usually ex-drivers) who don't bow and courtsy to the elite teams.

Facts From Previous Race

One more win this year will guarantee Nico Rosberg the world championship regardless of what his team mate does in the final two races.

Lewis Hamilton took his eighth victory of the year in the Mexican Grand Prix. But he could end the season with more victories than his team mate and still lose the championship.

Indeed, whichever of them doesn’t claim the title will set a new record for winning the most races in a season without taking the championship. The current record stands at seven, but Rosberg already has nine wins and last Sunday was Hamilton’s eighth.

Hamilton’s 51st career victory means he has now drawn level with Alain Prost in second place on the all-time race winners list. Prost won 51 races in a 199-race career, whereas Hamilton has started 186 races so far.

The only driver in F1 history to have won more races than Hamilton is Michael Schumacher, with 91 wins from 306 starts.

This was Hamilton’s first victory at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, which means he has now won at every venue on the calendar with two exceptions. These are Baku, where he has raced once, and Interlagos, where he has appeared in all nine of his F1 seasons so far without winning. If he doesn’t change that this year his title chances will almost certainly be over.

Hamilton also took his first pole position in Mexico, increasing the record he set last week for setting pole at the most different circuits. Hamilton’s 59 career poles have come at 24 different tracks.

This was the 25th consecutive race which featured a Mercedes on the front row. This is their best-ever streak and leaves them ten shy of the record held by Williams.

However Mercedes have broken their record for most wins by a team in a single season, and done it with two races to spare. They’ve won 17 times this year, one more than in 2014 and 2015.

Sunday’s race featured a rare example of a penalty being levied between the end of the race and the podium ceremony, meaning that Sebastian Vettel stood in third place instead of one-the-road third place finisher Max Verstappen. It brought to mind the 1989 Japanese Grand Prix, when on-the-road winner Ayrton Senna was notoriously disqualified immediately after the race and Alessandro Nannini was sent out onto the top step of the podium.

However in this case Vettel did not keep his third place. A further post-race penalty handed it to Daniel Ricciardo, who originally finished fifth. For Ricciardo this could be considered recompense for the 2014 Australian Grand Prix, where he stood on the podium in second place but was later disqualified.

Vettel, meanwhile, already has experience of appearing on the podium and then being relegated: it happened to him at the Hockenheimring in 2012 and on that occasion he was also demoted to fifth place.

The post-race changes to the order means Ricciardo is now confirmed in third place in the championship. With 50 points available in the final two races he cannot catch or be caught by any of his rivals. He also set the fastest lap of the race for the eighth time in his career, putting him level with James Hunt, Gilles Villeneuve, Ralf Schumacher and Jenson Button.

Ferrari’s chances of catching Red Bull for second in the constructors’ championship are now as good as over. They are 62 points behind with 86 available.

Felipe Massa scored two points, moving him within one point of Fernando Alonso for the last place inside the championship top ten. Last weekend was his 250th participation in a grand prix weekend. He is now two races away from retirement, and his final race at Yas Marina should be his 250th start (he participated in but did not start the 2005 United States and 2009 Hungarian Grands Prix).

As last year, the Williams drivers were by far the fastest through the speed trap. Valtteri Bottas clocked 372.5kph (231.5mph), which was almost as high as his unofficial top speed in the European Grand Prix earlier this year.

Here are the permutations for Rosberg to get the championship at Brazil
Rosberg can also win the title if:

  • He finishes second, and Hamilton is fourth or lower
  • He finishes third, and Hamilton is sixth or lower
  • He finishes fourth, and Hamilton is eighth or lower
  • He finishes fifth, and Hamilton is ninth or lower
  • He finishes sixth, and Hamilton is 10th or lower
If Rosberg finishes seventh or lower, the title will go down to Abu Dhabi regardless of where Hamilton finishes.

Equally a Hamilton triumph would also guarantee the title goes down to the wire in Abu Dhabi - which would be the second time in three years that the two men have contested a world championship crown at Yas Marina.

History isn't exactly on Hamilton's side though - the Briton has nine starts in Brazil, but is still yet to win. Conversely Rosberg has won the last two races in the country.

Just need rosberg to get in front and let his engine blow up so he understands why he shouldn't and won't be champion

As Kravitz just said, "Jules Bianchi". I am sure it's a factor.

Yeah just heard him say it, probably erring on the side of caution, have to say though the conditions look nowhere near as bad as it did back in Suzuka 2014.

Well, Rosberg just was handed the world championship when vestapen pitted for interns, and now had to go back to wets

He should never have pitted for inters, rosberg can't drive in the wet, he proved it here and in Monaco, he had a problem in Abu Dhabi 2 years ago, I guess we have to hope for the same...

Double points anyone???

All done... Hamilton enjoying the moment... First Brazil win.

Looks like being a boring race, apart from the crashes, the the last period was brilliant, lots of overtaking, verstapen amazing, was that 15th to 3rd? In how many laps? With absolutely no visibility.

One for history, when max is world champion in the future thats the race they will show
He is up there in the wet with Lewis and Alonso
Nico racing well for second even in his post race interviews he dosnt sound bothered that Lewis is winning even complimenting Lewis
he might be world champion next race but he wont be a popular one
Max paid seb back in spades, way to go Max

Verstappen was absolutely AWESOME with his car control!

I thought when max was behind the safety car and was moving around the track he was lining up a move on Rosberg, but according to Jos he was testing track grip in places to make moves later on
Lets hope the new regs next year dont hold him back
Both lauda and toto think he was in a class of his own, that just leaves Seb windging but then he is getting good at that

Verstappen was very impressive. His drive overshadowed the fact that Sainz had another awesome race. I'd really like to see him in a Ferrari.

Did he? Or was it he just didn't pit for tyres. Didn't he only change them in the red flag period?

Well, much as I hate to admit it Rosberg will be crowned 2016 F1 Champ.

Some say he won't be popular or he does not deserve it but, at the end of the day he has kept it on the black stuff, ground out the results and accumulated the points. He has managed his entire season this way and in all probability it will win him the championship.

He might not be... any of the other cars could crash into him, any single failure on his car could end his race early and Honda might have a miracle and put ALO & BUT on the podium after Hamilton to give him the title, rosberg could struggle with the pressure too
