Was sitting in Alnwick marketplace in my home town tonight having a coffee when the missus pointed out to me someone over the road all kitted out with a camera over his shoulder, huge kitbag and carrying a large tripod, no sooner had I laid eyes on him his bag must have burst open and although it was getting dark by this time I could tell by the crashing sounds that quite a bit of his gear hit the cobbled surface, I personally felt gutted for him but hopefully he is fully insured.

Nasty end to the day.

Sure would spoil my day.:'(

I don't know what I'd do in that circumstance, I think I'd cry.

Would almost be crying with him, you can't know if it's insured or not, :shake:

Ouch, you've got to feel for him...

Did anyone help him out ?

Gutted :gag:

Does anyone carry equipment without insurance, couldn't care less if mine crashed, new for old all the way.

My eos10D I bought used SEVEN years ago for £250 was stolen this year, replaced with a 60D.

As they say, let the uninsured learn the hard way.

Mine's insured but if that had happened to me on a Saturday evening I'd be pretty upset as I wouldn't be able to get a replacement camera etc for Sunday morning's football

I'd be gutted! Probably would have bought him a coffee to cheer him up.

He quickly packed his bag without even checking his gear and disappeared into the darkness of the cobbled alley he had just entered as if nothing had happened, but then would we not all react in a similar way  it's a bit like hurting yourself in public doing something stupid but just gritting your teeth through the pain rather than be embarrassed then screaming out in agony when no one is there.

How long have you had this supernatural power and are you available to deal with Uncle Bobs at weddings?

Damn!! I have been sussed :D

Oh well no loss then just a bunch of kids kicking a ball, now birdwatching is another matter.

Also, who has only one camera, it pays to have a backup.

 I can't afford a back up, I'm currently saving for one though.

Rubbish, how much does a Kodak Instamatic cost, still have mine from when I was 9, getting the films a b****r though, no one sells it any more.

Ha ha ha, I do as well I think? Not sure you can still get the film though

But there lies the question, what if this chap had his back ups in the camera bag as well? Does that then lead to, should have had two bags?

I have one in immaculate condition, boxed, I will lend it to you Kelly

Dont half feel sorry or the guy but can understand his reaction too, I think I would have done the same.

However, Mal, can I hire you for a wedding on 29th please, time will be tight on that one so don't need no Uncle Bobs delaying proceedings :D

Ta Yv

Sorry Yvonne my Wizard diary is fully booked for the 29th but if you know who is likely to be the Uncle Bob on the day I will see what I can do from here with one of my long distance spells:D

Here mine then,a Nikon F5 with 17-35mm dropped, complete write of the lens + £200 bill to fix the body :D, not insured, but that's life

I went out to the coast yesterday (Wont say were just in case the tog is on here) i was taking a few shots with my D7k - Grip & 18 - 125 Sigma when this tog turns up with his D700 and 24-70 2.8. he quickly changed it for a much bigger lens. didnt see what it was but must have been 2 feet long lol. Why? i have no idea what he was taking a photo of with that lengh as there was nothing in front of him. So in my eyes it was a simple case of mines bigger than yours. I felt sorry for the chap

It's like the morons who spoil my day out, I rarely go to the beach but why is it when it is almost empty, (or a cafe, train, waiting room come to that) you sit down and some pleb comes and sits next to you, empty beach, cafe twenty empty tables, is it me.

Yes

I have had what you had, haven't we all.

BUT, I do wonder what people think when genuine phjotographers like us DO have a large DSLR and lens because we have years of "knowing" what we need, when they see us, "show off" perhaps.

Mind you I remember buying my son, then fifteen his first Dslr, a pre owned 300D, he came to me after ten minutes complaining that he could not load the film DUH!

I was definitely glad my gear was insured.

Earlier in the year I had my D300's with a 70-200 2.8 VR knocked out of my hands and it hit the deck and parted company. I phoned my insurance company and within a week I had a brand new D300's and because they dont make the VR anymore I got it replaced with the new VRII.

Would never have been able to replace my gear without insurance. Like Jeremy mine is new for old as well.

No-one apart from Boots, jessops, other chemists and camera shops, some supermarkets and loads of interweb suppliers.

If that is true than I will get the instamatic out again, I love nostalga photos and nothing brings back memories more than a black and white instamatic thanks

Sorry to be harsh but I have NO sympathy at all for anyone who does not have insurance, for example the uninsured flood victims are being compensated by the Gvnt, in other words YOU the tax payer, disgusting, I have and pay for insurance on my home, let them lose out and learn.

My Bikes are insured with CTC cycle insurance and cameras new for old with morethan.

I hope he has camera insurance, but he may be able to claim for any accidental damage on his gear on his house insurance in any case.

Oh and by the way - I'm from Alnwick too :)

Sounds like a sensible recommendation after reading this thread. Who are you insured with (assuming forum rules permit you to name names!). My old D90 is probably covered on my home insurance, but i've bought quite a bit of expensive kit recently that I know will need proper insurance cover, especially as I plan to be going walkies with them...***

That is where mine is covered new for old

Again like Jeremy I am covered under my house insurance (Lloyds Bank Ins) and it covers my photographic equipment new for old upto a maximun of £3000.

I don't mean to be rude but looking at what you have and what other bits and pieces we all forget to mention, is £3k enough

Yarmouth, love the place for photos, also wasnt me strayed in Norwich yesterday :)

I felt sorry for myself yesterday.

I had a shoot on a beach and I was in the water with a 580ex and flex pocketwizard on a sandbagged stand and the stupid thing fell over. There was no wind and it was sandbagged but it still fell over. They were rusted to **** this morning as well.

Im insured but the hassle of going through them is head wrecking.

You will find alot of household policies will insure EACH item up to that amount.
I inquired about this BEFORE my last holiday, and was told if the items are seperate then they are all insured seperatly even if they are all in the same bag.
so a camera and a lens even though attached are treated as two seperate items. So each item is covered up to 2K anything above that I have to get a quote for and send it too them but that does not apply to me as my dearest piece of kit is my 100-400mm
Not all companies work this way so please check with yours first before assuming what I ahve said will be the same for yours.
