I have just been given an epson stylus dx3800, went out to get ink and saisburys were selling them for £40. i mean what? i used to own a couple of epsons before and the most i spent was £10. Anyhow i wanted to try and put some refiller ink in the cartridges and the epson prompt on screen has detected that 3rd party ink has been put in and is refusing to print.

i am not happy with epson, as the couple of identical printers i had before and both seemed to break down on queue the exact same time a few months after the warranty wore out. I worked out that they are programmed to break down so an epson engineer can be called out and fix it at an obvious call out charge. This seems cheeky to me, but is there a patch or a work around to make my epson accept my ink and stop being so stingy and expecting me to buy expensive epson only ink cartridges?

Try cartridges from inkredibles ... guaranteed to work and great value.

Remember that this is so completely illegal it's not something you will ever find "programmed" into a device. A large company would be destroyed by a discovery of such code and I would imagine Epsom would not take the risk.

However as you often find with washing machines they may design in a component (small parts like resisters etc) that is not capable of running for huge amounts of time and then price the module that this is included on in such a way that it's "economically beyond repair) if this module needs replaced forcing you to buy a new one.

And on a side note third party ink has a habit of buggering up printers!

Well Epson, and most other manufacturers have 'chips' on the cartridges to stop them working when they are about 10% full and require you to change them and if you don't use another Epson cartridge with the chip on, it will reject it and won't print.
The way around it is to deactivate the chip with a special electronic gadget or use replacements with chips fitted that fool the Epson into accepting them.

www.inkredible.co.uk supply the latter and I have never had one fail or mess up my printer.

I have used them for Epson, Canon and Samsung.

Incidently a survey carried out on printer ink a few years ago found that, pro-rata, it cost more than finest vintage champagne!
