Hey everyone... Again (Bored of me yet? :p)

I recently brought an EOS 1000 (Cheers Arthur :D) to experiment with but being a Nikonite, Im fairly confused as to what lenses will work on this body...

Suggestions please :)

Bry

Anything with EF in the designation, (as long as it's not an EF/s), or those designated for "Canon AF" should be OK

Cheers Arthur :)

Hey while im thinking about it...

Anyone know of a Nikon to Canon EOS Lens adapter? Would mean I could use my current line up of lenses?
A quick browse online suggests they are out there but most I've read seem to be for the current EOS DIGITAL range...

Bry

they will fit yours you know - the eos ones.

yep - slightly posher one will support the AF confirmation on the EOS - you'll still have to focus manually, but the AF points will light up to confirm focus. Any nikon glass with an aperture ring will be fine. For the G range of Nikon glass it's a bit more expensive though :(

Yes - I use the same adapter for my 10D as I do for the Elan, both EOS, although I do have an AF confirm chip in the adapter :D

Both my lenses are G... £160 for the adapter... cheaper to buy 2nd hand canon lenses ;)

Cheaper to buy an M42 adapter for both Nikon and EOS...

that'd work, yep!

You're basically looking for a M42 adaptor, and a M42 lens that's got a aperture control ring.

Though I'd still be be tempted to go for a AF Confirm adaptor

Hey - at least you CAN fit older Nikon lenses and use 'em with wide open aperture - old Canon lenses won't even fit on the new Canon's without an adaptor that's got a chunk of glass in it, costs a mint, and works like a short teleconverter :bonk:

Sorry but what do you mean 'as long as its not EF-S' - EF-S lenses work specifically on crop cameras which is what the 1000D is.

Yup - point is the nikon adapter for M42 is cheap-ish too so if you get M42 lenses you can use them on both bodies. Remeber though that 70's/80's glass is pretty much all developed for the slide tog, you get nice rich colour rendition but you will have to tweak most likely at least the wb on digital. There is some awesome glass about though in M42.

Cheers for all your help :D

Finish decorating the living room than its time to splurge out on M42 adapter and then... the slippery world of MORE lenses :p

I got a very nice Pentacon 50mm f/1.8 in Praktica PB mount on an EOS adapter you are welcome to borrow if you need to get the camera running desperately... it'll do until you get sorted but there's no AF chip on it.

Hey

Thanks very much for the offer Arthur :) No rush on my part to get it working though, currently have the Yashica to use for 35 mm!

Just a nice project over the next few weeks :)

An easy mistake, happens all the time in here!

yeah but old canon lenses (fd) are really old the EF thing has been going longer than I've been alive :p

Canon brought EF out on the EOS650 in 1987 if I remember correctly.

Dave.

Yeah, but I bet he's not twins...

Hmm - surprised you went for such a long lens Bryan... but I suppose with full-frames it's not so bad!

Just more of an experiment more than anything :) I presume its all the right gear?

Bry

Oh yes, it'll all click together and work fine - assuming the lens has a manual switch, otherwise it may need a bit of surgery.

Surgery?...easily done?... Aaaah I WANT AN EASY LIFE :D :p :D

Well, there's an easy way and a not-so-easy way - as ever. The easy way involves bending the aperture actuation pin a little and pressing it into the body so it sticks in. The not-so-easy way means taking the end off the lens and removing a spring.

I like the easy option ;)

Do you think this lens will need surgery or?

Also is it a good lens in general? To be honest, im mostly looking for FUN, this film thing is so enjoyable and I love this experimenting element to it all :D

Never tried one - but should be OK

Is it weird that I'm so excited?! Never get this excited over digital stuff but the fact it seems almost "Vintage" in equipment and style, its FUN :D

No, it's not weird at all - it's one of the things about photography that digital never had... and never will have. And if you've never had it you'll never understand it :D

I bought one off ebay, was £16 ish, and I can use my stunning old Nikkor 600 AIS 5.6 ED on my Canon 30D. Manual focus, but I get the AF confirm beep, also get auto exposure. Not bad, works better on a Canon body than on a Nikon!

Hopefully both adapter and lens should appear in the post and delivered by tuesday or wednesday... :D
