Can someone tell me where the cheapest place is for processing E6 films? :)

Thank you.

The cheapest places tend to be the local ones that you don't need to post to, since postage is often the key differentiator between where to process.

Genie Imaging is where I go for cheap E6 processing, although it's on the other side of London to you. They will even do the 5x4 from your Graflex if you want.

The Darkroom are quite cheap - £3.20 for 5"x4" inc to/return delivery, £5.00 for 120 sleeved, £5.90 for 35mm sleeved or £7.90 for 35mm mounted. Their the best mail order prices that I could find including a freepost address and return delivery and with excellent processing quality and a quick (3 - 4 day) service.

do it yourself with the e6 kit I'm selling :P

E6 processing and cheap makes me shiver... sorry just too many cheaper priced processing labs have let me down in the past!

I would say reasonable priced and superb quailty processing... Peak Imaging.

*Just a update to this post. I have received back a few different batches of process only 35mm Velvia 50 films, over the past few days from Peak Imaging. The processing quailty and service was outstanding. For anyone interested... Peak are now using Clear File archival sheets to return unmounted film in. Hopefully i will fire up the old projector tonight, to see how badly i've done!

I just paid £7 for a velvia 50 to be processed from DSCL and they were pretty good!

I have used MetroColourLab, Birmingham for several years, and have stuck with them. If you get their website up you can view their prices and postage rates, etc.

I love DS Colour Labs for their digital print services but I have sent 2 lots of film off to them for devving an both times they took nearly 4 weeks to do them. I don't particularly mind that but when I phoned them on the friday they swore blind that they had not received them and then they arrived the following tuesday with a credit card receipt dated from 3 days after I had posted them.
I assume they wait until they have a batch to do and if they had told me that I would have been ok with it but I won't be using them for devving anymore.

They were pretty good when I got them back though.

Andy

I would worry that the process control would be far from consistent, if the lab was running the E6 processor that often.

A slight color developer ph issue/color cast, or the lab not running a consistent line really annoys me!

You could make that observation if they ran E6 sporadically (more chance of the chems going off through lack of use) or as you have done, if they run it frequently (more chance of exhaustion).

You can apply that to any commercial C-41 process as well... you just pick a lab and have to trust them on that really. Picking a lab with a good reputation mitigates that risk, but that is as much as we can do realistically.

Maybe the guys at CC Imaging could help enlighten us all. I guess CC are running one of the busiest E6 processing lines currently in the UK. Prehaps they could kindly add a little info of how they run a E6 process line in control daily. A big thank you if they could spare a minute or two to reply.

I believe that modesty and forum rules prevent them replying....

I've used Peak, I've used CC. Both work out to somewhere around a fiver for a single roll mailed back. I'd happily use either again.

A shame if that's the case....

The guys at CC are actively promoting film and E6. Which is great to see and should be supported where possible. Of course so should all the other E6 labs offering a fine service, up and down the country.

The Darkroom ...

Just wanted to add to this that their quality is superb - film are coming very clean and I actually prefer their mail order services to my local one even though the local one is cheaper. Mainly because of the quality (had a few small niggles with the local one and none of this with the Darkroom).

Tim Parkin's film comparsion review on his website(under Saltwick Blog) and a couple of films i sent in last year, always put me off from using The Darkroom's service again. The color balance appeared too cyan to my eye, which Mr Parkin's review backed up my own findings. However i read so many good things about them, maybe it was just one of those things at the time.

I was using them since last fall - cannot say anything bad at all. An I took quite a few Velvia 50 shots in Wikworth Arboretum last autumn with greens coming out with typical Velvia look. I'll keep an eye on recent development batch I got from them which I have yet to scan and examine carefully - so far it looks good but I have not examined it all in details.

Tim now does his own E6 processing on Jobo so I don't think he is using any film dev labs anymore for a while (his comparison post was from 2009).

Maybe i was reading too much into it, however was quite noticeable on looking at the comparsion shots of Astia and Velvia on Tim's website, plus my own agains't Peak's. I think i will send the Darkroom a roll out on Monday morning, i will be interested to see what i get back.

Can you share the results here please? I have only used them as opposed to my local one so would be interested to hear if you still find any differences with Peak.

I've used both and was a confirmed fan of Peak but was driven away when their prices increased. The quality is comparable but The Darkroom are cheaper and quicker, typically if I post a film on a Tuesday it will arrive back on the Thursday.

So far I have only used Peak, and have had no complaints, but may try sending a roll to Darkroom. Just need the weather to sort itself out as I have two cameras loaded with film itching to be used.

Peak Imaging are CHEAPER than The Darkroom now! They recently put there prices up, inculding a £3.00 return postage charge now. The Darkroom return film a day quicker though.

Peak Imaging: process only £6.19, process and mount £10.44.
The Darkroom: process only £8.90, process and mount £10.90.

Yes no worries. I may be a week or so, as the light was flat this morning for the subject i tried to shoot.*
