DPOTY25 Chat Thread

May is done, the poll is up. The June entries thread is up, the theme is "Shadows" - I hope it stays sunny for people to find good ones!

Hoping my June entry will be acceptable, might be a bit loose with the shadow connection

There are indeed some really excellent entries for June - very difficult to choose just three. Poll is up though, hopefully plenty of votes to go around

How come Cuthbert won £4.00 in January? :)

I don't know why that is showing like that, but I've taken the 4 quid off him and given him 4 points and votes instead..

Attention all DPOTY25 participants: in collaboration with Ben at Trade Canvas Print. we have decided that TP will offer the overall winner of the DPOTY25 league table a free print to be produced by Trade Canvas Print. That can be on canvas or a regular print, up to the value of £80. We will arrange with Ben a special discount code to be used which will then be paid for by TP Media Ltd.

Why? because (a) we want to support TCP as a great company and loyal advertiser, and (b) we want to encourage participation in the DPOTY challenge. So get shooting!

Only the one entry this month so far - am I missing something? Or maybe it's just weather and schools-out issues? I need to get an entry in I think, a chance for some points!

I've struggled to find any rural scenes this month... so I've gone for a tenuous one :)

Lots of late entries, and the poll is now up for voting.
New theme entries thread is also open - maybe a natural successor theme or maybe not brilliant to have two successive themes that could be covered by the same image, but chest la vie, it's what came out of the hat.

I've not been on TP long but have followed things for some time and perhaps I'll enter the DPOTY next year. One thing that kind of bothers me when it comes to the DPOTY challenge is that I feel bad when a photograph gets no votes. I know one can't vote for one's own image but it would be nice if a point was given just for entering a picture, that way, the 'nil points' situation doesn't arise. Just a, perhaps pointless, thought.

@GetBusyLiving Believe me I do sympathise with that view; I've been on the receiving end of that myself more than once. The compensation is that usually people give Likes for an image even if it doesn't make it to being one of their favourite three.
On that point, join in any time - whilst the challenge is year-long, last year someone joined in nearly half way through the year and came within a whisker of winning for the year! Also, it's good to get into the monthly groove and practice.
And since I'm in "encourage" mode - in addition to the prize for this year of a free print by Trade Canvas Print paid for by TP, there will also be a similar free print prize at the end of next year which will be paid for by Ben at Trade Canvas Print.

Just did my voting and wondered are the participant's names usually included in the poll? I could haver sworn it is normally just the image titles until the end of the polling. Maybe I'm going a bit dotty/ misremembering (wouldn't be the first time...)

@RyanB yes I always put the username and either image title or an approximation of it, in the poll. You can go back through the Challenges forum to confirm, but probably not the best use of time!

ha, a bit dotty then... I swear my brain is not braining properly this week and its only Monday.

Finally got a pic together, shared across with the Nifty Fifty thread too.

This proved a tricky theme, with crops already cropped around here at the end of July to the point where I was too late to enter a harvesting photo LAST month! Still life isn't really my forte, but in the absence of anything else (I'd wondered about photos of harvesting cells in the lab, but there's a risk of disclosing confidential information) I had to imagine something appropriate.

My image is in, i hope it's allowed. If not let me know and i'll change it.
