I find that M4/3 cameras are much easier to live with than DSLR's. They are small and light when out and about especially with family. Other people don't mind you taking shots of them, where they do mind (in my case anyway) is when you use a DSLR. Everything for them is smaller and usually cheaper and IQ can be as good as DSLR's if you know what you are doing.
I enjoy using mine far more than the DSLR which I have now sold. If you go for a camera that is just being replaced like a G3 or Pen then you will get a great camera at a great price. Get lenses used from this forum and the cost will not be too great.
One thing I am leaning towards is using just one or two prime lenses on the GX1 to keep weight down and compactness and IQ up. The X100 is just that in a nutshell!
